09/26 - 09/28 - NC Gathering

A question on launching, etc.

Are we supposed to launch at the ramp at the end of SR 1361, NNW of Red 10, or at the ramp off Midyette St., on the Oriental side of the bridge?

Once we launch, can we park our tow rigs at the W.P. Marina, or do we need to leave them at the launch area?

I'll call W.P. Marina to discuss parking before the gathering, but am wondering about the general plan for when most of the boats arrive.

Thanks.

David you launch from the ramps on the Oriental side of the bridge. You will have to drive the truck and trailer over to Whittakers Pointe Marina. We usually leave ours at the Ramp but seeing as there will be so many of us..we need to park at Whittakers Pointe Marina parking lot. I thought you and Dayna were coming down early to cruise for a few days with some other folks? We were planning on going down on Wednesday to do a wee bit of cruising up to New Bern before the gathering. Talk to you soon ! Tracy

Thanks for the info. Carol and I plan to be there early Friday AM. Will head down after work on Thursday and stay over somewhere along the way depending on how far we get... four hours, but leaving at 5 PM.

I guess we'll launch and I'll have Carol drive the truck and trailer to the marina. Are there any decent maps of the area anywhere? We've been in Oriental once and about all I remember is the water and one restaurant!

We were looking over last year's photo album last evening. Now we're really excited! Even saw the Sojourn II photos!

Try this map out. The ramp is at 35 1 32.35 N, 76 42 02.38 W, while the marina is at 35 01 49.50 N, 76 40 49.43 W. It's been a year since I was there. I'm sure about the marina, but have only used that ramp once, so someone might want to check me there.

Problem with the map: I can't figure out how to get it to display position coordinates. So, you'll have to open your own, direct at Google, or perhaps let us know how to get the coordinates to display.

Sorry I didn't post this last night. You will launch from the ramp off Midyette St. on the Oriental side of the bridge. Let me know if you need anything else.
Tracy :D

Just throwing this out for any folks who might be thinking of remaining in NC and looking for something to do for the week after the C-Brats NC Gathering in Oriental.

The 22nd North Carolina Annual Seafood Festival is the following weekend of Oct 3-5, in Morehead City - directly South of Oriental via the ICW.

Here is the link to the Seafood Festival:

And on the subject of that white stuff, they busted up a still up in Madison County today. They were brave guys that when into Madison County. I bet they where new guys.

They got good old Popcorn Sutton again too...in NC and TN. There was a metal shop somewhere around here that did 2ea 1500 gallon....uh..."containers" for him awhile back. Can't remember the name of the place though.

A week away and I'm beginning to stow items already. Our first time at such a gathering and a first in salt water. I'll be the one looking at everyone's setups and asking all the foolish questions! May not keep up during the Treasure Hunt, but we'll do the best we can. The Dory is certainly different than anything we've piloted in the past and the learning curve is pure fun.

See everyone soon!

That is what the C-Dory Gatherings are all about. Everyone can get a look at what everyone else has done to their boat.

We are really excited about all the boats that are coming. Going to be the best attended on the east coast. A lot of new faces and new friendships to make.

We are setting out early (5AM) Tuesday morning. It should take about 10 - 12 hours from Pennslvania to Oriental. We are looking forward to some cruising around the area before the Gathering. Last year we felt naked without the boat. Had to rely on others for boat rides. Ordered a chip of the area for the GPS so hope it works.

Tracy, when are you and Larry arriving at Whitaker Pointe?
Anyone else coming early?
This weekend we are washing up the boat and getting her and trailer ready for the trip.

See you soon.
Doug & Anne

We plan to leave either Tuesday or Wednesday. Larry is saying we leave Tuesday. Here is my cell number in case anyone needs to call for help or directions. 919-708-8434. Frankly we are watching the weather here for next weekend. Looks windy right now but it's 7 days out.. . Please keep an eye on that. You can go to the Oriental town dock site and check local weather.

Anne I hope you all plan on going up Adams creek while your out boating. It's so nice and we always see "dolphin" up there. There are some nice peaceful spots for lunch and relaxing. We are thinking of heading up to New Bern way.. . Talk to you all soon. Please be careful driving to Oriental ! :thup We want everyone to get there safely. Tracy

Marcia and I are headed south tomorrow, plan to spend the night in the Raleigh area and then splash Valkyrie on Sunday in Oriental.

We're meeting David Paxton (Alma's Only) for a cruise down to Beaufort and Morehead City and then up to Ocracoke, weather permitting. I'm bringing fishing tackle along, although the forecast of waves up to 10 might just keep it from being used.

We'll definitely be at Oriental by the Friday that the CBGT starts and are really looking forward to meet some new C-Brat friends!

Regards,

Nick and Marcia

LOL.... Salt water new to us, too. Ok... there'll be two boats hanging at the rear of the pack! Sounds lke a great place to learn though.

Well looking at Oriental town dock I see that Valkyrie and Almas Only have made it safely in. See ya soon...if the Nor'easter doesn't mess things up ! :D

Hi Tracy,
Did you see a larger boat with Valkyrie & Alma's only? That's us, Al & Pat, of Knot Home, in "noname", our new boat, 30ft Mainship Pilot. We got here just after Valkyrie, at about 4PM, met the folks, we went separate ways for dinner I guess. All 3 of us plan to spend the nite here. We'll head back up to New Bern tomorrow.
What noreaster? Wind's been in the N, NE for a cupla days, will strengthen Tues., but shouldn't be a problem, but a bit choppy out in front of Oriental I guess. It'll be fine for the gathering.
Sorry we won't be able to be here for it, have family business to attend to up in MA, will be on the road next wkend.
Town Dock website is a great place to see the harbor and get weather info, etc. on Oriental.
have a great gathering,
Al & Pat

Hey nice boat ! Too bad you won't be here for the Gathering. I'm surprised you didn't all go have supper together. I know the folks from both those boats, nice folks for sure ! You be safe on your travels and maybe we will run into you all sometime down around Oriental ! Take care, Tracy

Kyle ?!! Ok I missed tonights news and your telling me there's a hurricane Kyle ? I hope your telling me he will be there after this gathering ?! Could you please go stop Larry from doing any more dances ?! Geeze you mountain folk scare ME ! I'll watch the late news and get back to you about Kyle...! Maybe some of those Western Brats can tell us how to ride the waves ? LOL

Just paid my boat insurance...so I'm not too worried about Kyle...my worry is that I won't be able to find enough gas to get out of town! Any local staions that acually do have gas...also have huge lines this morning. Cops have been called in to keep the peace in the lines. I have less than a quarter tank in my truck.
