Thanks Tracy... we are so close to you folks. Lived in Moore Co. three years ago and then moved into the Uwharries on the lake. We'll have to plan a boat weekend sometime (that is after we figure out how to make it go without causing damage!). We had no idea there were so many NC owners.
 
Tom , We have not made it up your way on the boat yet. Last year I wanted to put the boat in up there so my Aunt could come take a ride but everyone was telling us the water was so low that it would be tough to put in at any of the boat ramps. So maybe this year we can put in up there. I grew up fishing in Badin Lake. My Dad loved to fish and camp. So that's what we did at least once a month in the summer, more than that ! Off topic... I realize, so forgive me. While Gene was winning the tarpon tournament, Carrie met us for the first time, showed us the 19 footer, and convinced us to buy! So who caught the biggest one that day? LOL!
 
I'm not sure.. I think the second place guys got the biggest one and more money.. but Gene and his crew had more total weight..Is that how it works ? LOL It was just nice to hear that he took a day off ! LOL :D

Well, it's going to be a close race to see if the vessel documentation gets done in time for the NC Gathering. It's taking about 8 weeks to get initial recreational vessel documentation. My supposed official date of processing is 7/29 - argh! We'll see - hopefully the planets will align! :amgry

Friday:
Show up! Arrivals throughout the day. Others will be there to help you get your boats in and set up.
Late Afternoon: Pick up ordered T-shirts ($15 each cash or check only) and waypoints sheet for treasure hunt.We will of course be boat hopping (checking out everyone else's boats ) stealing ideas ! The marina has a swimming pool so bring your suite if you like to swim or bring a good book to just sit by the pool. The marina added extra rocking chairs up on the porch so we can sit and people watch or just chat.

Friday night : Pot Luck Dinner 6 p.m. Please bring something for everyone to sample (Pasta salad,veggie platter,Chicken,cold cut platters,chips etc.. )We'll be meeting new brats and catching up with our old friends. If you want to bring CD's we can play them or not. Everything will be explained Friday night for the planned treasure hunt.

Saturday :We have a treasure hunt planned at 10:00 a.m.. The farther you go on the hunt the better the prizes.
At 6:00p.m. We will have a catered meal from Smithfield BBQ. There will be BBQ pork & Chicken along with all the side dishes. Plus if we have any leftovers from Friday night we can bring them too. We have music planned for Saturday night. He's really good, I have seen him play before. He's a local guy from Oriental. We will draw for the prizes and give out the prize for the winner of the treasure hunt.

Sunday: We will have a catered breakfast . We will have coffee,juice, eggs,fruit,biscuits, ham etc.. .Then it will be time for some folks to say good bye till next year. . Some will be staying a few days longer.So come and enjoy !

Understand your concern about having the documentation completed in time for the C-Brat gathering. I just sold a larger trawler which was documented. The new buyer is operating it legally while the documentation is changed in exactly the same way I did when I purchased the boat and waited for its initial documentation. I registered in it Connecticut (where it is docked) and ran under a state registration (numbers) until the documentation was completed and issued. Then, I surrendered the state numbers and converted to the Certificate of Decal (no numbers) which the state requires on all documented vessels docked in its waters. For Connecticut, you pay the same sales tax whether you are under state registration or Certificate of Decal/federal documentation. If there is not a sales tax difference such as no state sales tax for a documented vessel, you might just go ahead and register the boat and then change over to the documentation when it arrives. I sold my boat a month ago and the new owner filed a state registration and was given a set of numbers. He is running under state numbers until the documentation comes in and then he will change. I don't know how your state works but look into it. You may be surprised and get to use your boat in time for the gathering.

You are spot on. I may go that route to make the NC Gathering. It isn't a case of trying to dodge the state sales tax, just a case of not wanting to put state numbers on the boat, then take them off after the federal number arrives. Initially I hadn't expected it would take two months to get a vessel documented. In North Carolina, a vessel is exempt from state registration if it is documented with the U.S. Coast Guard, but you are still subject to state sales tax (that would be me) if purchased in another state as a new vessel, the dealer does not conduct business in NC and is not required to collect NC state sales tax.

I may go this route.
