About staying in Motor Homes at the National Mississippi River C-Brat Gathering and Reunion.

Just received approval from The City of Guttenberg, for C-Brats to stay in their motor homes (parked in the south Marina parking lot during the C-Brat Gathering).

We have, from the beginning, had parking approval for trucks and trailers etc. in the south Marina parking lot, but one C-Brat wants to stay in his motor home which triggered the request.

So, yes, C-Brats with motor homes, can stay in their motor homes, while parked in the south Marina Parking lot “during the C-Brat Gathering”.

Any other time motor homes are directed (off city property) to various camp sights around the area.

For those who were not here last year, the south Marina and Marina parking lot are directly across the street from our home which is gathering central.

Same as last year, The Guttenberg Police Chief (George) will have his officers closely watching the Marina area during the C-Brat Gathering (You all will meet George at dinner Saturday night, he likes beer too).

Not approved yet, but, it looks like C-Brats (that are not staying in their boats and not hooked up to electric, parking only) will be able to park their boats in un rented slips during the gathering, we will see.

I’m planning a public C-Brat - C-Dory boat show from 5/7PM on Friday evening, inviting the community to greet and meet at the Marina.

Details will firm up as we get closer.

Later on Friday evening is "Loot" night, when we draw boat names and split up anything that has been donated to be given away (vendors or C-Brats can send or bring anything they want to be given away “only if you want to”).

Just a thought for the “Loot” table for organisers of other gatherings, perhaps send a extra T-Shirt/s or two (from gatherings, past or present) as advertising other gatherings.

Always open for comments and suggestions.

Ron, Connie, Bear & Dolly Fisher[/b]

Maybe, just maybe, the “Meet in the Middle” C-Brat gathering concept has some merit.

So far, for this years National Mississippi River Gathering, there are C-Dory’s coming from Washington to New York, Texas to Minnesota, Arizona to Indiana and a bunch of places in between.

The “Meet in the Middle” idea/concept came a little late in this years planning, but probably will be a recurring theme for future Mississippi River C-Brat gatherings.

Most C-Dory’s are travelling long distances with Guttenberg as a destination, so just getting here is a big part of the adventure (take lots of pictures).

I will ask the c-brat.com administration to locate a photo album for this gathering, before the gathering, so travel photos and photos during the gathering can be posted on the fly.

The very custom T-shirts have been ordered, the caterers are asking for final numbers, local dignitaries have been invited to the banquet dinner and we will always have room for more last minute decision makers to show up.

Everyone is welcome to come have a great time, along with C-Dory’s that are for sale along with those looking to buy a C-Dory.

Great weather has been ordered for this event.

OK Gang take a look at this,

Notice in the above post “Most C-Dory’s are traveling long distances with Guttenberg as a destination, so just getting here is a big part of the adventure (take lots of pictures).”

So Here is this years 2011 National Mississippi River C-Brat Gathering “Photo Album address?

http://www.c-brats.com/modules.php?set_ ... _album.php

Thank you to TyBo Mike Barber, who said, “Here you go. I made a new album. I also placed a link to it in the event signup information to help folks find it”.

So Post those travel and gathering photos as they happen.

Once again we have a question. We were planning to make the trip down the river from St Paul. We thought we'd allow 4 or 5 days to get to Guttenberg. But now we see that would put us leaving St. Paul on Sept 3 or 4. Does the fact that it is Labor Day weekend make the river and marinas really crowded those 3 days? Should we reconsider? What do you suggest?

Hello from Iowa,

Thank you for your question/s.

Not at all sure about the Labor day weekend in the St. Paul area.
However, I/we would not be at all concerned and just play it by ear.

One reasons that the second weekend in September was chosen for the C-Brat Gathering, was because after school starts, the traffic on the river absolutely plummets (by at least 80/90% estimated), including Labor Day weekend.

Also, this year (I assume with the economy and expensive gasoline), the river traffic has been dramatically less than previous years.

Since we live directly across the street from the Guttenberg south landing and Marina, we have notice the parking lot is not near as full on weekends as previous summers.

Sorry that I Can’t be more specific.

Ron, Connie, Bear & Dolly Fisher

TEX any comments for See-Saw?

Update.

Read this carefully.

At this point all the transient slips in the Guttenberg Marina are rented to C-Brats attending the Gathering.

However, the City of Guttenberg will accommodate other C-Brats attending the gathering by renting seasonal slips to them at the discounted rate.

These available slips were intended for seasonal occupants but remained un rented for the season.

So, if anyone staying in their boat and/or wants electric and water please call;

 Julie Zittergruen, Asst. Manager
City of Guttenberg
PO BOX 580
Guttenberg IA 52052
563.252.1161 Ext. 110
gboffice@alpinecom.net

Now, just north of the Marina’s river entrance are city docks that are used by boaters that want to temporarily stop in Guttenberg.

The City Manager and Police Department have agreed that C-Dory’s can park in these docks overnight during the gathering (free) and without question.

This overnight parking in the city docks does not include those that want to stay on their boats, those staying on their boats are to rent a slip in the Marina.

There will be other boat parking details (for those NOT staying on their boats) coming along as we get closer to the gathering.

Ron, Connie, bear & Dolly Fisher

Most of the heavy weekend recreational traffic is around the bigger cities like the Quad cities and St Louis. Near the mouth of the St. Croix river there may be the occasional Go fast boat whose wake may bounce you, but overall it is a big river with plenty of room. Actually in most places it is as wide or wider than the section we were on with you south of New Orleans and unlike the River south of New Orleans, there are plenty of isolated backwaters, chutes behind islands and out of the way places to spend a peaceful night.

That section from St Paul down is very beautiful with interesting river towns and great scenery. Go for it.

We are looking forward to seeing you guys in Guttenberg. We plan to arrive on Wed.

Tex and Sharon

Hello Tex & Sharon,

Wonderful, bring and donate anything you choose, I’ve not had much, if any response from vendors that I have contacted or from those who donated last year.

However, Triton Marine has sent some very nice items for the “Loot” table.

Oh well, we as a group seem to be pretty self sufficient, even though not required in any way, anyone can bring or donate anything they choose to the “loot” table.

Also, we will have a “For Sale” table, all we ask is that each item be tagged with the owners name and the buyer and the seller make their own deal.

We have ordered ten (10) home made pies for the Saturday night Bar-B-Q banquet from our friends in Wisconsin.

Ron, Connie, Bear & Dolly Fisher

Ron Fisher kindly sent me an invite to attend the Meet In The Middle gathering. Unfortunately I can't make it this year but boy oh boy would I love to be there next year.

I'm planning on being "on the road" in 2012 to take the Marinaut 215 to various shows, gatherings, demos, and just to cruise and enjoy. I'll for sure put the Mississippi gathering on my calendar.

Thanks so much for the kind invitation.

All the best and hope y'all have a great time!

The Guttenberg Rotary heard about C-Brats and C-dory’s yesterday.

It was the Guttenberg GD&T’s (Guttenberg Development and Tourism) http://www.guttenbergiowa.net/ turn to furnish the program and since the National Gathering is just a few weeks away, I was invited.

By the way, here is something very nice; The Guttenberg Security Bank is having a “Customer Appreciation” cook out from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Friday September 9th and the Mississippi River C-Brats are invited to come over for supper (I will list it on the schedule that will be passed out at sign up).

Also, I think that the party has started, Lyle and Janda from Amarillo (See-Saw) dropped by yesterday on their way to St. Paul to cruise down river and be here for the National Gathering.

Any of you that are on the fence about coming to the gathering and not signed up yet, should, if for nothing more than to meet Lyle and Janda, what terrifically interesting and fun people.

Lyle and Janda, are good friends with Tex and Sharon (Bixbys Cub ) who have done that trip before, in fact Tex and Sharon have done the complete Mississippi river from the beginning to end (I understand that Gary Cramer will be writing an article about Tex and Sharon’s adventures).

Anyway, besides everything else going on, last night our one year old Siberian Husky (with wooly, long hair) apparently met up with an other than friendly skunk sometime in the wee hours this morning (oh the adventures of raising a puppy).

Ron, Connie, Bear & Dolly Fisher

Yo, Ron & Connie !
I plan on bringing a bunch of beer again this year (Yes......Wisconsin brews, of course) and am wondering the best time to drop it off at your house. Will Thursday the 8th work for you? Or would Friday 9th work better?

Looking forward to the gathering this year and it'll be fun meeting lots of new boats and faces. You folks have obviously generated a lot of interest. Way to go !! Will be seeing you soon.

More information;

Navigating the Mississippi: Being in the channel on the Mississippi River means staying between the red and green buoys.

Nun Buoy: These cone-shaped buoys are always marked with red markings and even numbers. They mark the edge of the channel on your starboard (right) side when entering from open sea or heading upstream.

Can Buoy: These cylindrical-shaped buoys are always marked with green markings and odd numbers. They mark the edge of the channel on your port (left) side when entering from open sea or heading upstream.

-------------------------------------

Guttenberg is located on an ancient sand bar, protected by a towering bluff on the west and open to the Mississippi River on the east.

Land is very limited here, allowing only 1987 very fortunate people a place to live and play.

The Corps. of Engineers operate lock & Dam #10 which is located within the town of Guttenberg (see ariel photos to follow)

See: http://www.mvp.usace.army.mil/recreatio ... pageid=182

Also see: http://www.mvp.usace.army.mil/navigatio ... pageid=922

In Guttenberg, along the flood wall/river bank, there is a wonderful “mile long park”, see description at http://mississippiriversteamboats.com/guttenberg.htm

The Corps. of Engineers maintain many/many sand bar beaches all along the upper Mississippi that are much used and enjoyed by weekend boaters that also camp for free.

During the week (and after September 1st) these sand bars are typically deserted.

The best weekends for fall color is usually the second and third weeks in October.

For those that are coming to cruise the Upper Mississippi for more that “our weekend” will find the river, more or less “all to themselves” after school starts.

The Lock and Dam structures are approximately 30 miles apart with many little historic town that offer free day docking/some overnight with hook up, for passing boaters.

Ron and Connie, thanks a lot for your hospitality Thursday. We really enjoyed visiting with y'all. And we're so glad we got to meet Dolly, your husky, BEFORE she met the "other-than-friendly" skunk! And thanks for the compliment, about our being interesting and fun. But doesn't that apply to almost all the C-Dory folks?
We're going to launch See-Saw tomorrow, Monday, in the Mississippi at St. Paul, take a week to get back down to Guttenberg (or somewhere nearby. That final plan is yet to be determined).
We're really looking forward to the great gathering you've planned in the beautiful community of Guttenberg. (For any of you who still think Iowa is just a big cornfield, come see the Mississippi valley--it's GORGEOUS!) And the Fishers are excellent hosts and fun people to visit with!
See y'all soon.
