09/08 - 09/11 - 2016 7th Annual Mississippi River Gathering

This will be our second Mississippi CBGT and greatly looking forward to it. Always fun to meet up with old friends and make new ones. We are boater homing in central Wisconsin till next Wednesday then down to Rockport . I just hope this one doesn't cost as much as the last one. I'm not talking marina fees ....I'm talking boat modifications!!!!! Tom

Hello All,
This has been a busy year with many changes, mostly busy with kids and grand kids. A big move from Conn. to Denver CO. has us helping them get settled and sitting with kids until they get settled. So with that being the focus we will have to forgo the trip to the new gathering this year. Wishing all a great time in the new location. Maybe run into some in the early summer next year. Take care all and we will miss seeing the group

Jim & Julie,

Sorry to hear the crew of Dutch Treat cannot make the gathering. We understand your situation. We will miss you guys. It should be known that the crew of the Pelican will sacrifice and consume your share of home made ice cream and pie at the gathering. Someone has to do it.

Best of luck with your project and hope to see you guys next year.

Ken & Pat (Pelican)

Today is the day that I am going to wash the Tully-B and also I am going to build the pie racks for the cooler so that we can transport the pies safely to the Mississippi. Looks like Jan plans on making apple and pumpkin both of which go well with homemade ice cream. We will be leaving early Wednesday morning and expect to arrive at the marina mid to late afternoon. So looking forward to seeing you all.

Hey Guys from New York, will you be needing a boat to ride on or do you still have yours?

Thanks Terry

Miss Marie has whipped up a chocolate cake for one night, and getting the fixings for slaw for another. Did a final wash down today (about an inch of rain helped. Miss Angel knows something is up, and keeps trying to jump aboard the boat. Got our flu shots...and "Thisaway" is ready to roll on the fist high tide of the morn.

Nancy and I have decided to join the group on Friday for the trip to Hannibal.

Give us a chance to spend some time on the water on a C Dory and enjoy the other activities as well.

Hi C- Brats,

The crew on the Joni Lynn will bring a batch of either potato or macaroni salad (or maybe both) for one of Terry's great meals. See y'all soon!

Thisaway, left the mooring at 10:45, and planed to only go a few miles....The temp outside was up to 101, the tourists were all leaving Orange Beach/Gulf Shores, so we averaged 20 mph for the first hour! Then the rain hit--enough to kick the bilge pump on when going down the road at 65 mph... At 7 PM the temp was still in the 90's--and so we snagged a "la Quinta" mooring-just in time for the fire department to arrive, since 3 rooms had set off alarm--one of those rooms was supposed to be ours...got a 3rd floor, overlooking "Thisaway"--and the air conditioner started to smoke. Got moved just as the pizza was being delivered!
So we got to watch the Fl/Ole Miss ball game.

We will be at Two Harbors tomorrow early PM a day sooner than planned! --hopefully it will be cooler on the river...

We plan to arrive tomorrow afternoon. Looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones.

Bob,

I feel your pain. Saturday, as Vicki was backing the trailer down the ramp, I saw a wisp of steam arise from the right forward axle. A subsequent tear down found a cracked brake caliber piston. To add salt to the wound, on the way home the EOH brake actuator stopped working. Bottom line- new parts en route via UPS overnight, and while we will miss the Thursday sandbar get-together, we hope to meet everyone Thursday evening.

We are headed out to Hannibal tonight. Will get early enough tomorrow to find Thataway and enjoy time on the river.

Raining here (Nashville, IL) right now and rain in the forecast for tomorrow, but we are boaters and never let a little water get in our way.

A big Thank You to everyone that took the time to show us their boats yesterday. It was fun and interesting to see how each owner made the boat their own by additions or modifications.

I was impressed by the build quality of the hulls. After seeing a lot of older sailboats that had either gelcoat voids or spider cracks, it was a refreshing change to see 10 - 15 year old hulls with none.

Regardless of size, 22 or 25, the owners were all enthusiastic about C-Dorys.

Looks like we are headed down to see Marc next week.

I would be remiss to mention how friendly everyone was. Nancy commented on the distance C-Brats travel to get together. I was impressed that 3 boats were leaving the gathering and headed down river to Mobile Bay.

It reminds me in a way of BMW motorcycle owners who consider a 1,000 mile day normal.

Fair Winds to you all.

Bud

All of the other boats left this AM. For an 80 year old, all of this is a bit more than we are used to! We are getting all of the "history" of the marina from one of the managers: C Brats, made a good impression--and I told the administration, how much we appreciate what they did for us! For those who are going up or down--this is a great places to stop. One of the cleanest restroom's showers we have encounter in many years of camping and boating. Very friendly folks on the boats.
Next on my list is an Active Captain review.

Elvis is still alive (???)--and in this area--or so we heard last night.

Wonderful\ food! Wonderful folks in this C Brat extended family!

Tex, Ken, Jim, Lee, Pat, and all of the other wives, who made this happen. Thanks to the "New York" contingent for the wonderful meat and "goodies".

I'll try and get some photos up--slow internet right now...

Thanks again to all~!

It is such a pleasure to be part of this Fantastic group!

For those who were at the "Elvis" Concert on Saturday, night: We just had home grown "ribs" (delicious) with the "secondary entertainment group" from last night! Really fun talking to these folks. Several of them ride over 75 miles (either van pool or drive) each day to a good job, so they can live in the Louisiana, MO area. So maybe there was a good reason to get wasted on Saturday night? I guess they sober up enough to make it on the road at 6 AM...

Those that are river exploring after the gathering, please post up where your are,
folks are interested.

We are at mile 78 (Grand Tower, Illinois) on the Mississippi and should be on the Ohio tomorrow.

We have a photo album for the gathering so
post up those photos,

Click on photos, go to the cruises and gatherings spot and click on the Mississippi River 2016 album.

See everyone next year

We are in Winona, Mn. We're hosted by Dr Doug England at his boathouse; then a tour of the area. Once a CBrat....Always a CBrat!
We head up River to St. Croix River and then down to Debeque, Iowa, if all goes well.
