Don't forget your FRS/GMRS radios. Would be a handy way to communicate in close quarters without plugging up the VHF channels. I'll offer up channel 7-12 just because that's the channel my radios are currently set at and I'm not sure I remember how to change the channel. Tim
 
I will have them on board - we use them for ship to kid-on-shore communications! Actually, I think for a lot of the non-essential chit-chat while we are cruising, they would be a much more legal means of communicating anyway...

I've been getting up to speed on boating and supplying the boat
with all the needs. I'm sure I will miss something but I have
almost got it done. We will be at Cap Sante thur. ????????. If anyone
is around look me up at the docks. Can't miss the new shiney 25
name Clara. If any one is boating up next weekend let me know.

John, great to hear you're coming. You still are, right?

I've decided to drive to Tsawwassen and ferry to Nanaimo instead of boating from Anacortes. I hope that fact doesn't leave you feeling abandoned without a buddy boat.

Have booked reservations for truck & trailer on the ferry to Duke Point for Sept 6th, returning Sept 16th. Plan to launch at Salmon Point Resort.

I would suggest turning off onto the "truck route" through the border just before Blaine. I've found that it saves considerable time. It's hard to predict how long it will take to cross the border, depends on the day. On a holiday weekend even the truck route is backed up.

However, it's never taken us more than a couple of minutes once we've been talking to the Canadian border patrol to get waved through. I hope the present spat between Canada and the U.S. over the soft wood tariff doesn't trickle down and cause crossing problems this weekend.

All of that being said, I budget an hour for the crossing and have never needed that much time.

We have been saving all the great weather .... calm seas.... lots of sun....for you guys to come up and spend some time in our part of the world. :smiled :rainbow

Try to stop in at Rock Bay (between Mayne Passage and Chatham Point on Vancouver Island) on your way by and we will keep a cool one waiting. Cute-C and us would love to meet you all.

By the way, the chinooks (kings) have been biting like crazy and you can walk across Johnstone Strait on the backs of the "humpies" (pinks) when the Orca's aren't chasing them !!!!

Rock Bay, eh? Alright. My trusty marine atlas tells me that from Blind Channel we can just boogie around Edith Point, through the Walkem Islands, with Johnstone Strait at our backs, and straight into Brock Bay. Curiously, I think I'll remember your little haven.

Meanwhile, Eddie Electrodes, without a GPS or those other wild gadgets, I dare you to find the above at home.
(I mean, locate a place that obscure without old fashioned paper charts.)

We generally use I-5 going into Canada, because the Canadian border folk are normal reasonable people, and the truck route returning because the US border folks are not - of course I don't envy their jobs, but with their dogs and super-sensitive instruments, and experience in sizing folks up, treating everyone like terrorists is just plain unreasonable. That diatribe off my chest, even at the I-5 crossing, if you are catching a 7:45 am ferry (and you need to be in Tsawwassen an hour early) on a Saturday morning, you are not going to be waiting very long at all.

All gassed up and ready to go. We will be leaving early tomorrow to catch the ferry. Hope to see everyone in Gorge Harbor on the 10th if not sooner.

We love our C-Dory all 4 days. Took builders trials thur. off Des Moines
went to Gig Harbour Saw fire damage but still beautiful to us. Fri. Seattle
harbour trailerer to Anacortes. Sat Anacortes to Galliano. Sun. to Naniamo. Mon. to Westview waiting to get 20 hr servise. On to the north soon after hope we find the C-Brats.

We just arrived at Pacific Playgrounds RV Park and Marina. Its south of Campbell River. We have taken a space for tonight and will launch tomorrow. The wind is blowing 20-25 Northerly right now.

We went to Salmon Point RV and Marina, but they don't allow boats in the RV spaces and their launch ramp doesn't have a float.

We hope to be in Gorge Harbor on Sat.

We'll be leaving for Birch Bay as soon as I get home from work today , and then cross the border for the Tsawwassen ferry at oh-dark-thirty, anybody else who is going tomorrow still hanging around here? Still planning to launch at Salmon Point, but we will size up the situation, I don't like not having a float next to the ramp at all...will keep Pacific Playgrounds in mind.
