Nine work days to go for us. We're headed to Twin Bridges and the boat tomorrow so that we can get it ready for the trip.

We're pretty firmed up on leaving 9/2, staying overnight in Nanaimo and launching from Telegraph Cove on 9/3. The only certain meet up time we know about is 9/10 in Gorge Harbor. Anybody else going to be in the Broughtons from 9/3 to 9/10? Our tentative plan is to be in Echo Bay on 9/3 or 9/4, then possibly up Tribune Channel to Kwatsi Bay, then head NW to Broughton Island and Greenway Sound. All of these areas have marinas. We'll probably find a couple of places to anchor out in between.

We'll meet up with the group on 9/10. Anybody care to suggest another rendezvous spot later in the week, so that late arrivals can catch up? We'd like swap cell phone numbers with anybody that wants to keep in touch. PM us if you want to stay in touch. We plan to follow the group and socialize the second week.

I hope to be in Lund to launch on the 3rd and plan to spend the entire two weeks in the area-fishing,crabbing, oysters etc. Since this is my first trip to this area I really don't know anything about the best places. Open to any suggestions.

Sounds like a great trip, wish we could come too, but school starts Sept 4th. We will be in the San Juans from 8/26 - 9/1 or so if any one will be going through during that time let us know and maybe we can hook up.
We will also be at Hat Island Labor day weekend for anyone in that area.

Have a great trip, be safe and bring back lots of pictures.

Don, Deb and Haileigh.

So far, there is only one firm rendevous date and place - Gorge Harbor on Saturday, September 10. Folks have talked about possibly trying to have a place every few days to meet up, but it has not panned out.

Schol starts the same for us and we are just leaving food and water for him and the dog. they can argue about who gets what. ...oh and my mom is coming up to stay with them both. dont want the place to burn down. we are leaaving on the 9th and I can decide which way to go. depends what time I get off work friday.

I just spent a few hours checking the fishing regs for Desolaton Sound. I think I remember a post about fishing for lingcod. No can do in the DS area. Area 13, 14 and 15 is closed to lingcod. There are many closed rockfish areas also. In the rest of the area the limit is one rockfish per day. If we can find some coho, you can only keep hatchery coho. I am going to pencil in all the closed rockfish areas on my chart before I leave. If you plan to fish it might be a good idea.

It looks like I might be able to leave earlier than I thought. I may be able to get to Nanimo by Friday and hit the chart store.

Is there any idea of who is launching from where and when? I am considering buying food and ice in Cambel River and going on to Telegraph Cove then trailering back the next Friday the 9th to meet on the 10th.

I am also considering launching at the Salmon Point lodge/marina. Never been there but the web site looks good.

It would be nice if we could get a list of those that have made decisions about where and when they are launching so we could meet up. I expect to be able to launch Friday just not sure where yet.

Steve

Steve,
I also plan to leave a day earlier. I will leave Spokane on Thurs, 1Sep, spend the night in Blaine. Then on Fri 2 Sep I will take the ferry from Horseshoe Bay to Langdale and then from Earls Cove to Saltery Bay. Drive to Lund where I plan to launch late afternoon and spend the night at the dock in Lund. On Sat it is on to? I will leave the truck and trailer stored in Lund for the two week cruise. I plan on spending the entire cruise in the DS area. Depending on weather and what the group is doing I may try to hit Princess Louisa on the way back.

We have our ferry reservation for Saturday morning the 10th, will be driving to Salmon Point to launch and park...

To any of you curious about salmon point, I spent a few days there the end of July and it is a pretty good place. Trust me, in the top 10% of what is available on the East coast of the island. I checked them all out on my way south, every one. Rates were reasonable, they have a well protected marina, and a lot of activities for all ages. A decent restaraunt next door. And just N, NE of there is a place called the hump, where the only fishing in the area was happening late july. And there is a gentleman there that manages the facilities and grounds and he is very helpful about where the fishing and other activities are. I really enjoyed it there.

Steve,
We'll be staying over in Nanaimo on the 2nd. We'll then drive to Telegraph Cove on the 3rd, getting there around mid day. There is a great boat ramp there at the new marina. If we don't see you, we'll try to raise you on channel 16. Our plans are about the same, leave the 9th or 10th for Salmon Point.

How high does the tide have to be to launch and get out of Salmon Point?
Lyle

Starcraft Tom, I like your dedication, dude. Your priorities are right where they should be. After all, we're talkin' C-Dory boating here.

However, I'm glad your mom will be available to referee in your absence. I was concerned that without her your son would get all the Kibbles and Bits and the dog would just get the water.
:dog

Hey Catman,
You're our leader. We need some directions on where we're going after Gorge Harbor. You said you had a list of 5 must visit places. Do you care to share, or do you want us to mill around aimlessly for a couple of days?
Lyle

There'll be no milling, pardner. If I'm to be the leader I'll run this gig with military precision. I want you vacationing slackers up at 6 a.m. every morning and ready for laps and drills. And no whining. Or coffee.

Sorry. Evil twin briefly escaped his cage. You can see why it's important to keep him incarcerated. Lyle, I want to be careful to get as broad a consensus as possible, either here online or more likely at Gorge Harbor Saturday the 10th. I'm timid to tell people where to go because my experience with Cats, er, Brats, is they have quite a mind of their own. No way am I going to make decisions for everyone, unless folks want me to. And even then, I'd still poll people so everyone feels respected.

Having said that, I think we won't want to miss Prideaux Haven, Roscoe Bay, maybe Grace Harbor and other sites along Gifford Peninsula, and all in southern Desolation Sound. Moving north it might be fun to anchor in Teakerne Arm and swim in Cassel Lake before shooting up Lewis Channel and around Bulock Bluff, past the Penn Islands and into Von Donop Inlet.
Just west of Maurelle Island are the Octopus Islands, which I recall as a secluded and beautiful group of small islets. We could shoot northeast through Hole in the Wall, into Calm Channel and through Yuculta Rapids to Big Bay, where a nice restaurant awaits. From Big Bay I'd like to continue west through Dent Rapids and Cordero Channel to a stop at a floating barge with excellent food, before our northern terminus at Blind Channel marina, which offers another--you guessed it-- fabulous restaurant. See why we need a six ayam exercise routine?
:cat

Thing is, though, we're going to see places along the way, and talk to locals about what's what, and likely see plans altered. Too, I don't suspect everyone will be driven accordingly. Heck, I just spoke with Fred and said I'd be happy to anchor in Prideaux Haven and Roscoe Bay for four nights.

Granted, that won't work if our group's goal is to see as much of DS as possible in the time allotted.

Lastly, I'm thinking I might trailer up after all. If that's the case I'll have a week to do enough lounging to satisfy a hibernating bear, and ready me for the next week's go-group.

True Story, Fred and Robbin, maybe Seabran and Nancy H, CAVU, several new Canadian friends and I will be up there early the first week. Who have I missed?

What would you folks like to do September 3-9?
