08/8 – 08/15 - Western Erie Canal Cruise

Rick,

Just a heads up. We lost a boat on the last Erie Canal Cruise going east because we forgot to have the tailing boat watching the boats ahead of them and in radio contact with the lead boat. "We did find him."

Fred

Fred-- Sorry you can't make it, I wanted to really check out an 22 Angler. I know this is a busy time for you. Planning on being on the east coast this fall. What is the exact name of your Inn on the island. Thanks Rich

Hi Rick,

The Inn is the Centre Street Inn. Go to centrestreetinn.com .

Have a great time. I might join Dun and Terry in September when I can get away.

Fred

Hi Fred,

We'd love to have you join us in September. You'd be boat #7 and that would be perfect. We can have lunch again on the bench in the center of Pittsford, one of my fondest memories of our 2005 trip. Tell Sheila you have to go!!

Dun

Fred, we're launching Sept 19th at Seneca Lake State Park, with the first night in Seneca Falls. we plan to do the return shuffle from Buffalo on Sept 26th or earlier.

Dun

Hi all;
Getting closer to Erie cruise date. My last cruise on the Western Erie was with a 40' canal boat from Mid-Lakes Navigation. 8mph is very optimistic! But persistence will catch everyone up while faster boats are shopping in the next town...
I REALLY liked the bicycles on my first trip so don't be too surprised when 16' Clover shows up with two full sized bicycles mounted on top. Last year it was the inflatable dinghy. Guess I don't care if people laugh :)
Look forward to seeing everyone.

Best,
Nate

Hi Rick and All -
Looks like we'll be greeting you as you go by our dock after your lunch in Brockport. We are west of the village between the guard gate and Redman Road high bridge. If you are staying in Spencerport on Tues. night, Don will be on duty. He is the seasonal afternoon/evening bridgetender for the Spenc. Main St. (and Washington St.) bridges.
While we do plan to welcome you as you cruise by our dock, it turns out that the local kazoo band is on an international tour, so you'll be stuck with Clayton, our newly adopted, almost blind pound doggy, and me.

However, here is a little ditty for you. Sing it to the tune of "Columbia, the Gem of the Ocean":

Hunky-Dory the Gem of the Erie.
She leads her Armada to the we-st.
The pride of her owner's devotion.
All C-Brats know that Dory's are the best.

Thy postings make C-Dory's assemble.
From their vessels, they ne-ver will switch.
Their rubrails make Nordic Tugboats tremble,
when crui-sing the wide, muddy ditch!

We’ll also welcome the Sept. group and will try to come up with a wicked cool greeting for them.
See you next week,
Barb

Wow Barb,

That is so cool! We've had a couple of poems written about our past C-Dory Cruise/Gatherings, but never any that could be set to music like yours. That is stunning, thank you.

We'll make sure that we sing it as we go by on Ch 68, in lieu of the kazoo band.

Tues nite some of us are staying at the Canal Side Inn, but we'll be shuttling back n forth to Spencerport for dinner. Of course, we'll expect Don to serenade us each time we go under his bridge!

You should note that the best singer in our C-Dory group is Becky, but she is doing the Sept cruise.

Thanks again, you'll make our Spencerport/Brockport area stay a unique C-Dory experience, Rick from Maine

Hello Barb and Don,

The September crowd should be in Brockport on Wednesday Sept 23rd, but don't hold me to it, as our plans remain flexible depending on weather and the whims of accompaning C-Brats. If you'll give me your Cell number, I'll give you a call as we approach your area. Becky will be along, but will only sing if quarters are thrown into the cockpit, or a kareoke machine is set up on the dock!

Dun

Dun,
Is anyone going to run the canal back east to Seneca Falls after you get to Tonawanda? We plan on meeting a friend in Tonawanda and he will take our boat back to Seneca Falls while we take his car home. We will return the following week to trailer the boat home from Seneca Falls. Just wondering.
D.D.

Dave, I don't know what other folks plan to do, but last time we did this, one C-Brat did the return trip from Medina in two days. Maybe Fred, or Terry will have enough time to accompany your friend.
Or, if we get to Tonawanda early, we can retrace part of the trip and pull the boats on the way back.

Dun

Hi Brats,

Valkyrie is just about ready to head out for the canal tomorrow morning. The cooler is packed with lots of block ice and good food for the trip. Her hull has been waxed so much I think I added another inch to the beam and is so slippery I hope she stays in the water when we splash her Thursday afternoon!

We should be in Seneca Falls for the evening and will have some friends vacationing in the area visit and probably go for a ride on Friday. Both Marcia and I are looking forward to meeting some new brats and reacquainting ourselves with those we have met before. It also looks like the weather will be on our side.

Regards,

Nick

Nick,I'm thinking i might go to the Steam Show on Rt. 20/5 east of the City of Canandaigua on Thurs.---if so---I will travel a little further east to see if I can find you somewhere between the Geneva launch and Seneca Falls.
YOU'VE BEEN WARNED :wink
Terry

Hey, Terry!

I hope we can get together. I've got some cold ones in the cooler ready for you.

BTW: I'm planning on taking our new camper and Valkyrie to the Keys for March and April. Hope you can come down there, too.

I'll PM my cell to you.

Tell us how you're planning to get them both down there? (Sorry for the OT)

Sorry this is OT, so I'll keep it short.

The focus of the Keys trip will be fishing, so the amenities of the camper will be much better than Valkyrie's. We're flying to the Keys in mid-October to check out campgrounds with dockage. We have two in mind. We go to SC for Christmas with Marcia's folks every year and we'll probably take Valkyrie to SC and leave her there. Camper goes down in late Feb and it's a day's drive to SC to get Valkyrie.

Jim: your answer is lots of driving!

We'll now return you to your previous program.
