08/15 - 08/17, 2008 Bellingham, WA CBGT

On Sunday, somewhere between P dock and the Bayside restaurant, I dropped my boat cabin key. It is a single key on a keychain with a foam parrot fish advertising Petit bottom paints. Since the Diamond SeaGlaze keys cost $17 from the dealer I would like to get this back if someone finds it. Tory climbed in through a window to open the boat. If that window had not been left open (deliberately) I would have been in a world of hurt.

Thanks,
Warren

What a great time. Last year we had rain and wind, this year as hot as it was, the sunshine was so much appreciated (well, most of the time anyway!). :beer :beer The beer guys kindly supplied a huge keg which was enjoyed by many. SENSEI Roger brought up crab & his son Jeremiah brought kegs, too. There was ample food and desserts. Many thanks to everyone.

Thanks too for the contributions of money to cover misc costs. What was left over after expenses was sent down to Harvey who is handling the Sequim CBGT.

Pat Anderson (DAYDREAM) celebrated his 62nd birthday with us. To make sure that he entered the next year in style, we sang Happy Birthday and gave him a hard time about getting older. So Happy Birthday, Pat!

Barry (C-CAKES) did boat safety inspections.

MY HEAVEN owned by Casey & Bryrick Shillam of St. Helen's was christened by Rev. DaveS.

Brock (BAMBINA), we found the cup. That's quite a gift but we think you're the real gift. THANK YOU.

Thanks so much for putting together a great gathering! Cathy and I had lots of fun meeting old friends and making some new ones.

Holy Mackeral, what a wonderful time! I met Brock(Bambina) at Skyline Marina in Anacortes on Saturday and he led Lizzie on the 23 mile cruise to Bellingham. It was great seeing old friends and making new ones. The kids were having a ball and the dogs were just great. The potluck had something for everybody from shishkabob to crab. Sunday morning brought a great breakfast at Bayside. The conversation centered around lubricating mechanical steering until Dave (Sea Shift) asked Jim (Endurance) "aren't you the fellow who climbed Mt. Everest?"! After breakfast Brock and I sailed off into the Bay, he for a week of exploring his beloved islands and me on my great adventure finding my way back to Anacortes alone on Lizzie. I filled with happiness and gratitude.

Thanks, but not necessary now -- Tory (not Tori) found the key in her sweatshirt pocket...

And thanks also for a fun CBGT. The Bellingham gathering is one of the best! Even though I belong to a real yacht club, the Brats are my REAL yacht club!

Hey Joe- Don't feel too bad about misspelling Tori's name. Ruth pointed out to me that I misspelled Lizzie (I spelled it Lizzy) on my nametag. And she's my grandaughter (Lizzie, not Ruth). OK, what's next?

What a great time and what a great group of people! Glenn and I felt right at home with all our new Washington friends. Thanks for making us feel welcome. It really was a great time, with especially great food Saturday. We would love to get back up there again and explore that neck of the woods in our boat. Maybe someday. Enjoyed meeting everyone. Look us up in Fort Walton Beach or Nashville. Safe travels the rest of the week!

Thank you Joe and Ruth for the invitation. I truly enjoyed meeting everyone and viewing the fantastic display of C-Dorys. It was a beautiful day for my first CBGT.

To the person who brought the gazpacho to the potluck dinner - I would love to have the receipe. It was wonderful. Great for the warm weather we are still having in Tennessee.

Well that was a fun and wild weekend, well the weather was wild. We had a great time as always. I got to fish with Warren and Tory on saturday. I just wish I could get them both into some fish. The full moon did not help at all. Sunday we headed out to parker reef for some fishing with the same luck as saturday. We made a pit stop at fossil bay and ran into some brats. While we took the dog for a walk he dove into a bush and grabbed something. When I yelled at him he flipped a field mouse in the air and hit susan right in the forehead. It was dam funny and the dog really loved it. We are very happy with the new dog on the boat. This was his first trip and he did very well. Plays well with others dogs, does not get sea sick, stays out of the way, and is good entertainment with a mouse. After that we headed over to poets cove resort for dinner and a dip in the hot tub. On the way there we had to out run a lighting storm. Well we tried. we had hits all around us. I ended up getting in really close to a small island while it got hit with lighting. On monday we watched as 10 cdorys checked customs at poets cove before we left for the american side. We had a hard crossing in the wind in the afternoon and did not get to Roche until after 3pm. We ran into more brats there and hung out for a while before heading to the ramp at twin bridges. back home and all washed up by 9pm. During the weekend we had still air with heat, wind and rain with lighting, warm sun shine and rain with bitter cold all in a two day period. Thank you Joe and Ruth for a wonderful weekend and a special thank you to tim flanagan for the Egg bacon bagel breakfast. We should have him cook everyone breakfast at the next gathering. I hope everyone had a good time in the island this week and watch out for the wind. Oh the whales are very much north near active pass yesterday.

We had a great time, too. Fortunately we did the Gulf Islands and Princess Louisa before the Bham CBGT and were back in our house when we saw the wind pick up. I knew it would be a wild and woolly ride for many of the Brats.

Thanks to Tom for showing Tory how to fish for salmon (even if not successfully), to Susan for puppy-sitting Ike, to Ruth and Joe for their always-unstinting labors on behalf of the group, and to all the Brats at Bellingham for making CBGTs highlights of our lives in the beautiful PNW.

Ruth, Joe and Everyone...YOU ALL ROCK!!! Thank you!

Tom & Susan...thanks for letting us raft up next to you!

Amy and I along with my dad Steve had a most excellent time with everyone and thanks for welcoming our friends on the SeaSport 22...right length at least!?!?!

Left Bellingham this morning and just got done with a nice BBQ tonight with family.

Ruth & Joe...thanks again for all you did to make the event such a pleasant time for everyone!

John (& Amy)

For Glenmcrae and Warren (Doryman),

Here's the gazpacho recipe. I made a quadruple recipe for the CBGT. I use a food processor for all the chopping, chop each ingredient separately and put everything, including juice, into a large bowl while doing the next ingredient. I don't worry about getting every last seed or piece of skin off of every ingredient.

1 medium cucumber peeled, seeded and coarsely chopped
1 medium green bell pepper, seeded and coarsely chopped
1 small onion coarsely chopped
1/3 packed cup fresh parsley leaves coarsely chopped
2 1/2 lbs ripe tomatoes peeled, seeded and coarsely chopped
1 can V8 juice
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
3 Tbs Extra Virgin olive oil
2 cloves fresh garlic, minced
1 fresh jalapeno pepper, seeded and coarsely chopped (Note: if you are going to serve the gazpacho over 2-3 days consider reducing the amount of jalapeno slightly as it gets hotter over time)
2tsp salt

mix everything together in a large bowl and refrigerate for at least two hours before serving.

Enjoy.

Ruth and Joe,

Great job! You always set the bar higher every year. That must be why folks keep coming back for more. Thanks for all your hard work.

We hope to see you and lots of other Brats at Sequim Bay State Park in just 3 weeks.
