08/12 - 08/14 - Powell River BC, Canadian CBGT

Just an update. We made our way down the Sunshine Coast today from Secret Cove to Gibsons and I only have one word to describe it; NASTY!!!

We were caught in a following sea with troughs up to 6 feet. Luckily the NW wind was behind us so we didn't pound but the ride was very gnarly. The current was so strong that we made it from Welcome Cove in 1 1/2 hours! C-Dancer was totally up to the challenge but the crew was in need of a stiff drink. :cocktail :cocktail

We're now relaxing overlooking the harbour with good food and a cold beer.

Peter & Caryn

We ran into that a few years back in the same location and conditions. Janet was checking the chart on the E-80 and noticed a small harbor. It was a condo development with a small marina behind a breakwater. We pulled in and tied up for a few hours at a guest dock. Never found anyone to pay or get permission from. Motored to Gibsons on smooth water later that afternoon.

That run can get plenty heaped up in a strong wind, glad you got in ok
Blowing into the high 20's here. 28 knots as we came into Newcastle marina this afternoon. Masts are moaning and whistling on the sailboats
If you're out it'll be bumpy

We hit an anabatic wind pushed by a flood tide out of Jervis Inlet and believe you me-- in a 16' Angler it was no fun running -err-surfing down the odd 5' footer that pushed us sideways against a full helm in the opposite direction. I bought the Blueback new in 1990 and have run rivers and open Strait waters --this was too close for us this time though.
