Calling all C-Brats...
Any one have interest in doing another simple cruise of the James River? Last year in July, we had a nice fleet that went to Smithfield Station in the Pagan River, then to Rivers Rest Marina in the Chickahominy River, then to Jordan Point Marina Hopewell, VA, then to Deep Creek Marina in Newport News, VA.
The real highlight is the Pagan and the Chickahominy, so maybe those two at least could make a nice short trip, if folks don't have a larger block of time available.
Anyway, consider the conversation started...
Best regards,
Joan & Steve

Hi Steve,

Investigating the James River sounds great to us so count Mary and I on "Freedom" as a definite possibility, depending on the timing. We'll be flying home for several weeks and then returning sometime around mid July (give or take a week or two) to continue cruising. We'll keep an eye on this cruise string as it develops.

FREEDOM,
Thank you for the flowers...what a neat way to brighten our day.
Glad to hear that you have interest. We need to set a date at some point so everyone can plan. As always, you can leave your rig at our home during that trip.
Best regards,
Joan & Steve

Steve; Thanks for taking the lead on the James River trip. I did have a Good time On the Carolina Trip. Thanks for all your help. Jeanne and I would like to make the James as well. Neal :)

Steve,
Ernie and I would love to make the complete trip this year. We had such a good time last year. For my planning and work schedule I hope we can get the date set soon.

Best to you and Joan

C-Brats,
Steve has asked TyBoo to place an event signup for the 2014 James River trip on the Brats site.
The general plan is to hit the highlight areas and forget about the rest, as there is not much to see from just steaming and staying at some of the places that you are "just at a marina".
So...
The general plan is to get underway and rendezvous at Smithfield Station on the Pagan River on July 11, then on the 12th, go to Rivers Rest Marina on the Chickahominy River. Spend the evening enjoying each others company, use the pool and eat at the restaurant. The morning of the 13th, get underway for a local cruise of the river and tributaries. Then spend that evening at Rivers Rest, enjoying the evening together. On the 14th, depart and head home.
The pluses is that some folks can shorten the trip to meet their available time, as well as launch near Smithfield or at Rivers Rest.
As always everyone can use our dock and Steve will assist you in launching and storing your rig at our house. Additionally, we will be hosting a dinner for all that can make the trip, as well as for other C-Brats that are in the area that can't make the trip at 5:30 PM on July 10th.
Best regards,
Joan & Steve Baum

Alma's Only and crew are looking forward to joining the group. We have some tight scheduling on the front end, so rather than joining up at Smithfield, we're planning on launching at Jordan Point on Friday, and spending that night at anchor off the James. We'll meet up with everyone else Saturday morning at the HW 5 bridge over the mouth of the Chickahominy. Should be fun!

To those C-Brats making the trip and signed up...

We have reservations to moor the 6 boats that are signed up at Smithfield Station on 7/11 and dinner reservations for 12 at their restaurant at 6:30 that evening.
Smithfield Station: POC Robin, 877-703-7701.

We have reservations for Rivers Rest Marina for 6 boats on 7/12 & 7/13 and dinner reservations for 12 people at their restaurant at 6:30 that evening.
Rivers Rest Marina: POC Alton, 804-829-2753.

If you change plans or want to get on the list later, please feel free to call the above numbers to sort it out.

Best regards,
Joan & Steve

Erma,
Joan and I are very pleased that we will be together, even though it is just for a short trip. You are welcome to put your rig at our home if you like, but if pressed for time, you could put in on the Pagan as you did last time.

Steve, maybe this is why my accountant wife retired. Miscounting between those large numbers 2 and 3. And I thought it was to be with me.... Of course, I'll probably get punched when she reads this.

Day two on the Chickahominy adventure cruise possibilities?

Okay folks, we need to put out heads together and come up with possible places to go on the river of day two on the Chickahominy. Our thoughts are that we go someplace of interest and then eventually raft up to enjoy the day before heading back to Rivers Rest Marina for an afternoon at the pool and maybe a cookout.
Looking for everyone to pipe up about what may be of interest for the day...
Best regards,
Joan & Steve

I know Steve, if the weather is hot we can all go inside your newly air conditioned cabin. Might be a tight fit though, getting roughly 12 folks inside. Kind of like those old school games of how many folks can be squeezed into a Volkswagen or phone both. Looks like a nice install job but no doubt one that caused some nervousness.

Both marinas sound great to us and have very good reviews in Active Captain. Mary especially likes the pool access. As for the question regarding cruise possibilities, we looked through our copy of the Waterway Guide as it pertains to the James, and also at Active Captain, but lacking any local knowledge we didn't come up with any recommendations. We'll defer to the group and are simply looking forward to cruising this beautiful and historic area. Thanks for your work on this!
