05/18 - 05/19 - Friday Harbor Gathering

Tom, We'll have the inside of H, as much of G as we need and the inside of the A breakwater. They assure me we'll have room and they've delivered in the past.

We finally decided to make the trip. Plan to launch at Deception Pass Friday evening. Have not launched there and wondering if we can launch anytime or does it close at dusk? Will be bringing shrimp gear so try to leave some for us!!
Thanks,

Karl

Karl,

Great news. Glad you are coming. Cornet Bay is open all the time. Low tide Friday is a little after 5PM and a little less than 2ft so no problem launching. We will look for C-Daisy.

Just wondering is anyone coming to FH CBGT might have a recent Raymarine C series MFD update on an SD chip. I just had the pleasure of contacting Raymarine tech support and being told I needed to do a hard reset ---> ouch. So goes all the setting, waypoints and routes. OK, I learned my lesson, now I need to find a Skan Disc chip and get the most recent (or a recent) version, since I just went back 6 years.

If you are coming and can bring a chip, I would be much obliged.

Sorry for the confussion. the Computer chip would be a San Disk CF series not an sd. I am working on getting a recent update for a C-120 "Classic" and getting back the alignments I had prior to a factory reset experience.

Just saw Traverler headed northbound on I-5. I am so going to miss this gathering, and all the many Brats that will be attending.

Dagnabit!

Robbi sure sorry we'll miss you this time. it.s been almost 4 yrs since we were with many of you at lake powell, and a yr ago we were with Barry ( C cakes) on the Mississippi.
So are some of you launching from Coronet Bay? We have never been in/on the San Juans and really would like to make the crossing with some old hands from around here. Hardee suggested Coronet Bay would be best. We will be in the area from Tues on and could leave at any time others would wish. Would people at Coronet Bay be able to eat Thurs at Sequim? Maybe that question shows we are obviously are not familiar with the area. Help we need suggestions or advice. Lyle& Janda, See Saw, 16' cruiser from Tx Panhandle

Lyle and Janda,

Sequim and Cornet Bay are quite a distance by boat or by car then ferry then car again so a meal at one and a launch at the other would be quite an undertaking. But, C-Cakes and at least one other boat are launching from Cornet Bay on Thursday early afternoon. We would enjoy your company.

Lyle and Janda, Good to hear from you two! Sorry that I will miss seeing you at Friday Harbor.

This might be a good opportunity for folks to let others know when and where they are going to launch. Many will be making the trip to FH for the first time, and for some it may be there first C-Dory adventure. My guess is that most will be launching from the east side of Puget Sound, but a few like Harvey will be traveling across the Straits from Sequim or the Port Townsend area. The FH gathering always has a few convoys departing from different locals. Look at your map, choose the areas you want to drive through and those you maybe would like to avoid. Give a shout, and you will be traveling with other Brats before you know it.

And, just a note. There is only one C-Brat that travels fast.

Just a heads up...halibut season will be open in Area 6 Thurs -Sat. If the weather is even remotely good, boat ramps will be overflowing! Plan accordingly...

Rick

That means that the cornet bay ramp will be full by 6 am. I fished out of there last week and they were parking trailer on the street. The good news is that most of them are gone by 2pm. So if you wait until then you should get a parking spot no problem. Same goes for washington park and twinbridges ramp.

Rick,

Thanks for the heads up. I just don't [pay enough attention to the fishing scene.

Tom,

Hope your timing is right for here too. It sounds like what I remember seeing.

Those who are planning on leaving from Sequim:

Those planning on parking and leaving from Sequim, John Wayne Marina, I will check Early Thursday pm, but parking in the evening should be OK. The morning rush will begin between 05 and 06, and hopefully thin out by afternoon. When you park, be sure you are inside your lane and park defensively

The early mornings can fill both parking lots, and the road each way from the entrances. We will be able to make it work. See you all in soon.

Some last minute info.

First: I double/triple checked with the marina today to make sure they'll have space. They do. So no worries about getting a slip. Just call in on 66 as approaching, tell them you are with the C-dory group. They will direct you to either H or G dock or...and this is new this year, they have a number of open slips on the outside of H dock so some of us can be on that side. If you want to be on that side you go to the right outside of the breakwater. We have the first ten or so slips on G dock so if you are directed there just go in as far as possible for your slip. Patti and I will be there on Thursday and monitoring 66 so chances are we or some other Brat will help you in.

Second: I talked with the factory today. There will be at least three folks from the factory arriving mid afternoon on Saturday, They will be there through the potluck. Mark Wright and Ryan Binning, both owners will be there as well as another person I don't know. I've told them they will be welcome and to expect a lot of questions. So if you see them on the dock stop and say hello. They will have the mike for a while at the potluck.

Third: Sam landsman (20 Dauntless) who took his 22 to Alaska last year and who is going to make the transit around Vancouver Island this year, is now with FineEdge Publishing, the producers of the Waggoners, the Dreamspeaker series and other guides. Sam will also have the mike for a while to tell us about the books and other things.

Fourth, The town manager of Friday Harbor will join us at the potluck and will have the mike for a few minutes to welcome us.

Fifth: I confirmed with Debbie, the owner of Downriggers that they are set for us and will have room. We are all set there for the Friday dinner beginning at 5:30

Sixth: We have one christening set, Russ and Toni's "Traveler" will get Neptune's approval just after the potluck on Saturday. If anyone else would like a christening please let me know.

Finally: We are especially pleased that Jim Bathurst (Wild Blue) will again be providing live entertainment during the potluck. It is because of Jim (and Joan  ) that we will have the mike. Please be gracious, make sure they can cut the line to get food early so he can sing on a full stomach.

Patti and I will be departing Cornet Bay around 2PM on Thursday and welcome any brat to launch/cross with us. We will be monitoring 16/68

Wow, what a sign-up list for this event. We're so-o-o looking forward to being there and visiting with everyone. Couldn't help myself but went ahead and ordered a sheet cake for the event. Gotta have one of those cake corners. Won't be needing a slip as we'll be boatless due to the tug being up For Sale (don't want to add any more hours).
See you all soon. Stay safe.

I had to chuckle at your post, Barry... apparently, the negotiations between you and my agent broke down. There was no mention of ONLY blue M&Ms, the personal masseuse, or any discussion of having the Washington State Ferry re-routed during the performance. Oh, and I don't need to sing on a full stomach, I was just hoping for a morsel somewhere along the way... when I took a break last year, it looked like a plague of locusts had come through the food tables... and ate all the good stuff (like the lasagna and all the desserts), leaving only that healthy stuff. I sure don't want to come off like a prima donna... oh, and don't forget the all female roadies and security... even though I think it was in the contract, it's not necessary for them to be virgins... unless you need that for the boat christening sacrifice.

We're looking forward to seeing everyone again this year! Hope you've been doing your "sun dance," Barry - the forecast is looking good for the weekend, but it's raining in Friday Harbor right now. :hot

Best wishes,
Jim
