05/15 - 05/17 - 2015 Friday Harbor Gathering

Over the years I have done one or two chrisenings...I could stand in this year if desired. I THINK I christened Pingu for Sarge...oir maybe not, I do remember translating "Pingu" as Aleut for "beer can boat"!

I will talk to Barry about the christening duties and we may have to vote in a new reverend.

I just read an article about how bad ethanol gas is in older outboard engines. Is Friday Harbor ethanol gas? If it is, I will make sure I got full tanks before leaving the Gulf Islands.

Martin.

Looking at the puregas.org website, Island Petroleum in Friday Harbor sells ethanol free gas, but only at their gas station a few blocks away. According to their website the dockside pump only sells ethanol gas. How convenient :?

Launa and I will be there. This will be our first CBGT and we always enjoy Friday Harbor. We may also be looking for Christening Services as FREQUENT-C has yet to have a proper ceremony.

Barry and Patti, Will miss you, and hope your family duties will go well. You have served well and Friday Harbor has become a fine tradition. Thank you.

Greg and Cindy, I too, will be glad to help in any way I can.

SleepyC will be there.

DaNag, You are all right - alright

Barry & Patti, I commend you on your decision and am proud to say I know both of you as friends. Sorry to hear of your family situation, but I'm sure the involved family member is cherished by you both. I wish you and them they best and our prayers go out to you all.

That said, M and I won't be attending again this year. We had planned a two week vacation to Hawai'i, and these dates fall in the middle of our trip. I have not been home since the passing of my father, so...

We will be out and about this summer and if any other "get-togethers" are organized, we would surely make the trip. We will be in Poulsbo for the 3rd too.

Aloha...

Hi there again,

This is Sandy Mckean. I purchased David McKibben's CD25 Anna Leigh about a year ago. My wife and I met many of you at last year's May gathering at Friday Harbor.

I have since (finally!) decided on a new name for the boat: Tosca. I'm an opera buff and Tosca is my favorite female opera character. She is tough, courageous, and unafraid when the chips are down. While at the same time, she is beautiful, artistic, passionate, and jealous as hell. Her life's creed (and her most famous aria) is "I live for art; I live for love." Sounded like the just qualities I would want my boat to have!

So I need a ceremony to make it all official and to please Mr. Neptune.

P.S. Note I have also changed my username on C-Brats to reflect this change.

Hi Sandy,

Noticed the name change so I'm thinking you may want to put the new moniker on the boat. The physical process is fairly simple but if you want to see it in detail I have a sub-album in my pix that goes through the whole process. See this link:

http://www.c-brats.com/modules.php?set_ ... _album.php

Basically, take the old off and put the new on. As to the formal name changing program, that's a personal preference. Just sayin.

Where you put it is up to you, but your name is short, so here's a tip I wish I had before I put my lettering on. IF you put the name on, just in front of the nav lights, it is still very visible from the side view, and yet when/if you are walking forward on the combing rail, -- that little side walk way while hanging onto the hand rail, your toes will not scuff the lettering, and you don't have to be looking down at where you are putting your feet, just feel the vertical with your toe.

Look forward to seeing you at Friday Harbor.

Hello Harvey,

I look forward to seeing you at Friday Harbor. I still remember your hospitality at the last FH gathering!

Thanks for the tip on decal location. Tosca is at EQ Marine at the moment so the Honda can get an overdue 400 hour service (more on that in another thread). When I get her back next week, I'll have a look (especially whether the current Anna Leigh decal is worn). Your photo history is going to be valuable to me given that my hands have 10 thumbs.

I like the idea of a formal christening since it will be the perfect excuse for me to drink more than my normal share of fine bourbon!

Thank you for the kind words. I hope that $00 hr things goes well. (I saw that thread  I do think that EQ does things right, but I can understand the shock too.

Actually, placing the lettering was pretty easy once I got over the idea that it was going to leave a mark   I would place them forward of the lights next time though.

Look forward to seeing you back at FH in May.

Just put our name on the list for the gathering. This will be our 4th, gathering and won't miss it for anything! Montana Salty and the "herd" ( all 3 pups) will all be there!

We will be there and excited to meet everyone and see familiar faces. We're bringing our shrimp gear. looks like spot prawns will be open in the area May 13-16. I can already smell them cooking on the wallas. If anyone wants to fish with us, more than welcome. Might be fun to take over a shrimping spot with a fleet of c-dorys

Is anyone planning to stay around the San Juans or Gulf Islands after the gathering? Caryn and I trying to make cruising plans for the summer.

Hi Peter & Caryn,

After FH we are heading for Seattle with two other boats (Larry/Liz, Blake/Rhonda), have a look around. May cruise around the Gulf Islands on the way back. Also thinking about being back in the San Juans first half of August.

Martin & Andrea
Nomad.

We are planning to tour the San Juans through the 25th. We don't even plan to cross the border but instead spend a full week locally cruising around.

Greg

Peter, I am looking at either before or after. Right now, thinking being in the SJ's for the week prior, and then for a few days after as well. Nothing definite, but wanting to be on the water, Wash Marine Parks are high on my list.

I'll probably be in the San Juans until Tuesday or Wednesday after the gathering. I have to be in Seattle Wednesday night and Thursday morning, but will be back out in the islands from Thursday afternoon until Memorial Day.

Hi All. Valerie and I have added our name to the list for the Friday Harbour gathering and are looking forward to seeing every one. Question..Do we need to phone and book a spot :?:
Thanks
Terry
