05/13 - 05/17 - 7th Annual Delta/Bay Extravaganza

Jim - My wife Mary & I have signed up to join the expedition from start to finish. Sea Skipper is currently parked on Lopez but I'm planning to bring her down in early April. The boat will remain here for the foreseeable future so I consider the extravaganza to be a great opportunity to gain experience with boating on the world class San Francisco Bay and surrounding areas. Thanks for hosting this! And a big thank you to the C-Brat forum for making all of this possible.

Hi Jim,

:D Boy, are you organized. The cruise sounds great. Marcia and I are really looking forward to it! We plan to launch at Rio Vista and may be there a day early to meet with a couple of Central Valley friends.

Thank You for your planning and effort. We can't wait!

Hi Jim and Kath,

Great planning as usual. Hey, you WOULDN'T be talking about me being one of them thar 'adventuresome captains' would you? I'll be launching at Rio Vista as usual and staying for the duration. Glad we're hitting San Francisco on Saturday, been awhile, I've worn out my nice pair of motorcycle gloves I bought there a couple years back!

Might even have a third person along, but isn't firmed up yet.

Looking foward to the trip. Thanks.

Jim,

Thank you for taking the time to plan all of this. It looks like a wonderful cruise is in store. My father and I will be arriving by water and are planning to meet up with everyone in Rio Vista, even though it means some backtracking. Longer cruise, but more fun.
If I can be of any help, just let me know.

Hi Jim,

My wife can't take weekdays off (she's a school principal) but we'd like to hang out with the group if possible.

Perhaps we could hook up with you in Sausalito on Sat. A.M. Then travel over to San Francisco with you. Ifff there was a slip available we would spend the night, if not we'd go to some plan b.

I realize this isn't the ideal way to participate. If it doesn't work out that's OK. Maybe we'll just come by and say hi.

We want to do some cruising up in Puget Sound this summer and we're interested how other C-Brats have their boats set up.

Thanks,

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

We'll be coming from Petaluma early Sat morning, then the group usually does some mid-day activity like Angel Island, Treasure Island, fishing, etc. Usually we arrive at Sausalito around mid-afternoon. Would be great to meet you.

Hi Jeff-

Dora Jean was confused by one day. On Saturday morning we will be in Sausalito. We will likely go over to Angel Island Saturday about 10 AM. Please meet us before this at "F" dock if you want to hang out with us on Saturday.

Right now we have nine (9) boats that are officially coming. Because Dinner Bell II will be having to leave one day early on Saturday, after Sausalito, we have an extra spot in SF for Saturday night. Jeff, plan on coming to Sausalito and meet us on Saturday morning, and then you can come on to SF with us and take Dinner Belle's slip for Saturday night in the City.

Dear Everyone Else-

We have room for one more boat. The drop dead date is 15 April to sign up. More information to come later.

Dear Bay/Delta Extravaganza Folks:

We now have nine (9) C-Dorys signed up for the event and our sign-up is officially closed as of yesterday as we previously informed everyone. Closing of the sign-up now is due to the need to finalize in advance and pre-pay some marina reservations. All of our marina reservations have now been made.

We understand that the following fifteen (15) soles, and nine (9) vessels, will be attending the event:

1. Jim and Kath – Pounder
2. John and Robbin – Dinner Belle II
3. Steve and Friends (1 or 2) – Dora Jean
4. Mark – Game King
5. Mike – B Gone
6. Kent and Marcia – Marcia Jane
7. David and Father – TBD
8. Jay and Mary - Sea Skipper
9. Bob – Sea Struck.

Also, on Saturday, Jeff and his Wife (on Tranquilo) will meet us in Sausalito, and take John’s spot in San Francisco for Saturday night.

We are very excited about this years’ event, with six of the nine vessels being new attendees. If there are any changes in the above list of vessels or attendees, please let us know.

There will be future communications at the end of this month with some additional event details. Looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new faces.

Jim and Kath

Thanks, Jim. Sea Skipper is now in Danville and is being prepared for the event after a long winter lay-up on Lopez. So far the engines and systems are checking out fine, and we should be in good shape for next month's cruise. We're looking forward to meeting up with everyone!

Dear All Delta and Bay Extravaganza C-DOGs,

It is time to get pumped up and get your gear and vessels ready. This is our last update before the event, which happens just the week after next!

As previously communicated, we are still counting on nine (9) vessels, and fifteen (15) C-Brats. We are pleased with the turn-out, especially in this crummy economy, and we are looking forward to having a great time.

Kath and I plan to launch our vessel on Wednesday, about 10:00 AM, at Rio Vista. We will leave Rio Vista together as a group, approximately high Noon, on Wednesday, May 13th, and head down river to Wheeler Island.

John and Robbin are kindly hosting a BBQ dinner for everyone on Wednesday night at their Duck Club. Kath I am bringing the desert. Also, there will be a dinner show-up present for every vessel that attends the Wednesday night dinner. On Thursday morning, Kath and I are hosting a bacon and egg breakfast at the Duck Club for everyone.

There is no need for anyone to bring food this year for either Wednesday night, or Thursday morning. Everyone is to bring their own drinks though (both non-alcohol and alcohol) for dinner.

Everyone is on their own for breakfasts and lunches throughout the trip. Usually most of us go out for a group dinner every night. Please feel free to bring your own wine for dinner on Wednesday night, or host your own dock happy hour at any of our destinations.

We will leave the Duck Club Thursday morning after breakfast, in time to safely cross San Pablo Bay and make a 2:00 PM scheduled bridge opening at Petaluma. On Thursday night we might go down to Volpi’s Italian Bar (been there since 1918!), in the City of Petaluma, on Washington Street, for dinner.

On Friday we will be heading to Sausalito. We need to clear the Petaluma “D” street bridge by 8:00 AM, Friday morning. Channel 9 is used to communicate with this bridge. The C-Dory group will communicate on Channel 69, and also monitor Channel 16.

At Schoonmaker Point Marina, we will be staying on “F”: dock. Remember to line up on Day Marker # 6 on the way in, and out, of Sausalito. Sausalito is also a good place to top off your fuel tanks for the rest of the trip. On Friday night we might go down to the Sausalito Cruising Club for dinner. We hope to enjoy the music and show off our tattoos on Friday night!

On Saturday morning we will connect with M/V Tranquilo. It is likely that we may go over to Angel Island for a hike before we cross the Bay to San Francisco.

On Saturday night, we usually have a farewell dinner at one of the close neighborhood SF restaurants. On Sunday, we will leave at sunrise (sharp), and head back to Rio Vista. We should pull into Rio Vista around 11:00 AM, Sunday morning.

Regarding dockage fees, for Saturday, San Francisco, South Beach is the most expensive place we stay. We had to pay in advance for this marina $35.00 per vessel, plus a $100.00 group holding fee. The total charge per vessel for Saturday in SF is thus $46.00 ($35.00 + $100/9).

For Friday, in Sausalito, the charge is $1.00 per foot. For example, a 25 foot C-Dory would have a $25.00 dockage fee. Each vessel will pay their own dockage fees in Sausalito. Please bring cash for the Sausalito Harbormaster.

For Thursday, in Petaluma, the charge is $20.65 per vessel. We will send one check to the City of Petaluma for the entire group.

For Wednesday, at the Wheeler Island Duck Club, there is no dockage charge! At Rio Vista, the launching and parking charge is $30.00.

In summary, on Thursday, every vessel doing the entire trip is to give me either cash or check, for the amount of $66.65 ($46.00 + $20.65). Dinner Belle II will pay $20.65, and Tranquilo will pay $46.00.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone on Wednesday. If you need anything, or have any problems, please call me on my cell telephone (916) 799-0286.

Sincerely,
Jim and Kath

Jim - Thanks for your time and effort in organizing this event! Mary & I will be at the ramp between 1000 and 1100. Oh, and Sea Skipper will be there, too. :thup

Jim, also thanks. The three of us will be arriving Tuesday late afternoon and staying overnight in the marina, as usual. We will be part of the crew helping out with the launches...!

Hi Jim and All

Marcia and I will launch around 10:00 a.m. Wednesday morning. We'll be staying at a friend's place Tuesday evening.

Do most folks bring food for their breakfasts and lunches, or do they buy provisions along the way?

We're really looking forward to this event! :D The 10 day weather forecasts look very favorable. :rainbow I'm working on last minute boat fixes today.

I installed a permatrim and have now uninstalled it for a steering test. I just feel that I cannot use my reverse for docking like I have in the past (with other outboard powered boats). I'll post my findings on the permatrim discussion when I have it figured out. I'll take the boat to Lopez Lake tomorrow for the test.

Thanks Jim for all your organization. We'll see you Wednesday.

Hi Kent:

Some people bring a bunch of food with them, and others eat out along the way, and some do both. I notice we are bringing less food with us each year because we always have so much left over after the trip.

Kath and I bring some food for breakfasts and lunchs, but often we go out in the morning for a cup of coffee, or at lunch time for a salad. Sometimes we also snack while under way in the boat cabin traveling quietly with the door closed and the warm wallas heater on!

Thanks for checking the long range weather. One never knows though what we may encounter,,,,

I have permatrim tabs and I like them. I find them simple and a good Zen alternative to more complex trim tabs.

Sincerely,

jim and kath

Delta C-Brats,

We envy you, cruising in our old home base area. We will be at two CBGTs starting Friday, Friday Harbor and Anacortes. Have a great time and hoist one for us if you get to the Riverboat II.

Jim, that comment really strikes a chord with me. I can hardly wait for next week!

Roger - The true home port for Sea Skipper is Lopez, so I envy you and your cohorts who are heading to your appointed rendezvous. I'll be joining you guys up there eventually. We'll hoist one, for sure!

Sorry this is rather late but I just noticed on my map that there is more than one boat launch at rio vista, are we launching at the "delta marina and yacht club" launch? I have never launched there before so just wanted to be sure , thanks. bob

Bob

We are launching at the Delta Marina in Rio Vista, not the City Dock, that is upstream of the Delta Marina. Steve of Dora Jean will be there tonight, Tuesday night. If you see him there you will know that you are at the right place.
