04/14 - 04/15 - Cathlamet, WA

Mike- if you folks plan on leaving in the morning, you may want to wait for the ice to break up :) damn it's been cold in the mornings...don't be flying in any middle Easteners
Flabreaker- Larry is the springerwiz, me things he's had most of his luck dragging dead herring around Clifton Channel with a dropper & lead. The lead needs to be bouncing off the bottom

Cold is right. But the clear days are worth it. I seem to recall our first early April trip to C'met we had snow in the back of the boat the next morning.

I remember that, you folks showed up early and got snowed on...we borrowed your towels to use for curtains...seems like a long time ago.

Hey folks, I might point out that you don't need to have the official C-Brat membership card to attend. This is a pretty laid back event with the pot luck being the only thing close to being structured....well, I guess we will have the annual Columbia Cruising Contingent of the Loyal Order of the C-Brats meeting where officers will be elected and the treasury plundered

You know, we spent a week in Cathlamet on the way south last summer. It's got to be one of the prettiest places in the northwest, and friendly. Got a haircut from the lady whose husband was the building inspector. I learned that everyone from LA was moving up. But it was a good haircut for $5.

And please let me know if they sold the restaurant in town. Don't forget to take the ferry across the river. The 25 certainly filled it up.

Wornderful place.

Boris

officers will be elected and the treasury plundered

Um...B~C, I got some bad news about the treasury.

On a brighter note, I will not seek, nor will I accept, the nomination for Rear Comodore this year. If I can't be the Front one, I ain't playin'.

I see the Sportner crew is signed up for this gig. We have to ask Mrs. Sportner to share some stories of her snowmobile riding expertise.

Mike, Yes our plans are to be there. Toni did well snowmobiling this year, she kept it upright over 50% of the time and took her usual 50-100 photos per day. We took our last ride about three weeks ago and our minds are set on boating now.

Hey Russ, bring those snow machines, I saw a thing on TV where they where racing them across a lake, looks like it would be fun to try :) we could have a contest to see if anybody could make it to Wanna.

Mike- how about "Vice Admiral"

I'm predicting nice weather

I am sorry I will not be able to attend the gathering due to a conflict. I had looked forward to seeeing you all and leading the backwater trip for the second year (at high tide this time instead of low).

Hav fun, catch fish and be sure to take plenty of medication :cocktail for intestinal problems!

Chuck

Of course, if Chuck isn't going, neither am I. Even though I raised the topic during another discussion, there are too many conflicts for us that particular weekend. Sorry we can't attend, but we'll be thinking about all the good food and comradeship we will be missing.

Wineman

Dee and I are seriously considering taking the Knotty C from our marina Steamboat Landing (on the Columbia near the I-205 bridge) down the Columbia to Cathlamet on friday. Anyone want to travel along with us friday afternoon?

We are also looking forward to the Clifton/Prairie Channel cruise if anyone is up for that on Saturday. I'll try to float up the thread we started over a year ago before we did it solo. See "Cruising the Clifton and Prairie Channels thread for the history that Chuck provided (pg3)

Don

Thanks Chuck, I found it and edited my earlier post. I also floated the old thread to the top. Sorry you wont be able to join us next weekend.

Don

We're gonna try to make it, depends on if I can get away. We don't fish but are interested in doing the "Lower Columbia Inside Passage" cruise.
Launching at Ridgefield or Kalama may be a possibility, though Cathlamet may win by default. Apparantly Kalama dosen't allow long term parking.

sorry to hear that Chuck & Wineman can't make it, glad to hear D&D and MH may. Don, on the way down river, goad Cheers, Double D & Old Dog into heading down with you :)

I've parked overnight at the Kalama ramp many times and have never had any trouble.

For those launching a word of warning, the parking lot at Kalama was absolutely packed this morning with fishermen. I think we will drive down and launch Friday night....may bring the scooters to explore Puget Island.

Saturday potluck- I'll scare up something from the Meat family to throw on the BBQ.....the meat family lives down the road and they run a rendering plant

Seeing Wild Blue's "C-Dory as art" thread, it reminded of Steve's drawing while we waited for the CatyMae to be built

DreamBoat.jpg

We still don't have any pictures of the boat running --- maybe someone at Cathlamet can take one that'll look like Steve's drawing -- minus St. Helens erupting and the shark fins

B-C, I called the gal at the Kalama marina and she told me they have had problems with people leaving their rigs parked for long periods of time, She suggested that my rig may be towed if we leave it for three days. Dunno if she was blowin' smoke up me arse or not.

B~C
It's Easter evening and I think we have moved things around next weekend so we will be joining all of you next Saturday afternoon. (one night is better than none) I'll be driving the back roads looking for something to cook for the pot luck. See you there!

MH, dunno what to think, I've parked overnight many times, but never more than just a night or two. I always figured that since there wasn't any signs telling me otherwise, and there is a marina there, what the hey. It would be the pits and come back and find that your tow rig was towed though :(

Larry Q- that's great, look forward to visiting with a....see if you can scare up some porcepines, I have a recipe from old uncle wilbur for a meal that really sticks to the ribs

Ray- do stop in, bring tuna
