04/12 - 04/13 - Cathlamet, WA

CW (Clinton) – I was informed by Terri that she is not going to make the Cathlamet CBGT with me, so I will be going by myself. I have been thinking of putting in around the Longview area and going by boat. I don’t see you signed up for the event but thought I would ask if you you would like to go with me. You can’t share the bunk with me but with the extension there is room for a cushion and sleeping bag on the deck.

Getting excited for the trip along with seeing familiar and new faces!!!

Plan to launch on Friday night then boat over Saturday morning...did I mention I'm getting excited.

Safe boating and a fun time for all!

Crazy John Frazey (& Amy too)

We're about half way up the river and the kids are watching a movie. Nice evening. Good water and not much breeze.

Hey! Where's everybody at? I thought we were having a CBGT here. B~C throws a party and nobody shows up? Humph. That's a mite queer.

It's a peaceful beautiful evening here at the C-lamet dock. Nice ride up too. See ya tomorrow.

Mike, we may shoot up and back on Sunday, early, in the Bartender (aka Surf Scoter). Got a must-do deal in Astoria Saturday night, or we would be there on Saturday; have not slept in the V-berth yet.

Been mooching good advice off you C-Brats for two years; about time I bought coffee or whatever.

Not a C-Dory, but got that dory flare in the hull. Here's what we look like: http://www.pbase.com/bartenderdave/image/92098085

cool boat Dave, I look forward to seeing it.
Mike, you're a day early, don't level the town before we all get there.

I'm sure looking forward to visiting with old faces and new....I'll be rolling in before dark tomorrow

:)

Yeah Ken it is a day early but we had slack water and a little incoming tonight. In the morning it is a 9' tide exchange and we would have been going against it. With your beer and M's wine on board the boat is pretty heavy so an extra night's moorage is cheaper than the extra fuel.

Dave - we'll be pulling out Sunday morning but with the crew I got it probably won't be early. Hope to see you.

Isn't the Surf Scooter a Sam Devlin design? I have been drawn back multiple times to the bartender website. Would love to see your boat sometime.

Warren,

Don't know the Surf Scooter. Surf Scoter is just the name of the vessel I own. One less "o" -- name of a goofy sea bird that likes to mess around in waves. Pretty common on the coast. If you ever get down to the Cove in Seaside (Avenue U exit off 101) you can see some, most days.

Mea culpa, not "scooter". HERE is the Devlin Surf Scoter, if anyone cares (I love his workmanship -- he is at most wooden boat shows and some other in-the-water shows.)

I took a pic of the TyBoo all alone at the dock but I can't figure out how to upload it off this phone. The sky is clear and the sun is blazing. B~C done good on the weather. Wow is it nice.

Baskin in the sun...probably makin Joan and Jim jealous LOL

Is there still a plan to make a run out to Astoria? I think we might just try to do some sturgeon fishing...would be nice to catch dinner!

C y'all! 45 minutes to outahere and off to get the boat!

Cathlamet was great once again. Summertime weather and wonderful people. The TyBoo with crew is heading downriver right now. Almost to the fog of Skamokawa (which is a Clatsop Indian word meaning "smoke on the water") then around the bend to home. We had a great trip. Thanks everyone!

Hey all, we sure had a fine time...and thanks Mike for the wine. We got some quality visiting in and got to look at some nice boats.....between having a good time, and finding out that the boat & trailer still work, I dun up and signed up for the J. Cove adventure :)

On the way home I was thinking next year of maybe starting off in Warrenton, or, St Hellens, and then cruising up to Cathalamet, or, Beacon Rock, for the Sat. night potluck...food for thought

Thank you Ken and Marge -- another great gathering and C-Brats are absolutely some of the nices folks on this planet -- thanks to everyone! We had a wonderful time -- only could've been better by being longer

John, we'll be makin those signs real soon, I hope and we'll be sure to get a pic posted when the time's appropriate :smilep

We made it home, boat's bathed and in her home...even got the truck washed up :thup

Ken-
Thanks for putting this one together! It was great to see everyone again.
Great company, excellent food and perfect weather!
We got home, put away the gear and boat just in time for it to start raining.
I can't remember the last time we had a 3 day drought, I was starting to get worried!

Dave -- Oldgrowth,
thanks for the invitation, I didn't see it until tonight (Sunday 4-13). I would enjoy teaming up for another CBGT the next time you have room. I had planned all along to fish for spring chinook this past weekend. I did go on Saturday, arriving at the PortCo area at 5:20 am, only to spend an hour and a quarter in line... I saw many salmon caught but I didn't get one. The number of boats was amazing..... at least two thousand right around the I-5 bridge. Lots of boat swell. We're going clamming this coming weekend at Long Beach, WA and then more spring chinook fishing the next weekend up by Bonneville Dam, possibly above it where the limit is two per day. The count of fish going over the dam has skyrocketed these last three days from 150 to over 1,500 per day. Glad to here the Cathlamet gathering went well. Sorry I missed it. C.W.

Thankyou Ken for your efforts on this one and for the chicken, it was great. Toni and I had a wonderful time visiting with everyone and it was great just to be on the boat again and in sunny weather. Tyboo, great wine, thanks. A super way to start the boating / fishing season.

hey, how about that hardware store? If folks didn't have a chance to tour it, they should put it on the"must do" list for next year. That place is amazing, located in an ancient building & packed to the gills with piles of stuff. There are narrow pathways through stacks of old radios, phonograph players and just about anything else you can think of.

it may snow this weekend..arrrg, hard to believe

What a great time seeing everyone! Thanks to all for the food, drink, cooking and most of all the wonderful company!!!

Amy and I along with our friend Joe had a great time visiting and seeing the area again.

Look forward to the next gathering and wish you all safe boating!

John
