04/12 - 04/13 - Cathlamet, WA

Johnf-
Glad to see your going to make it! I thought I was going to have to bribe you with another bottle of the sticky fingers hot sauce.

Thanks Larry...mouth is still roasting from the last bottle!

Caty...Amy and I look forward to seeing our rafting neighbors from last year!

Should be a nice time and good to see everyone with a new boating season.

John

Sorry folks...just went looking for a signup sheet, and realized one was never set up.

I'll be there, but with no boat. I'm driving up to WA to spend the following week - not sure whether I'll get there Friday or Saturday, but I'll swing by the dock.

Any local lodging advice? I don't mind dirty and cheap - and I'm not picky about the room, either.

No signup?? I can see it. Maybe your Fireweasel browser can't find it.

I took delivery of some Stone Wolf Vineyards wine yesterday.

Well duh...guess I could have actually looked there.

Didn't see the typical link to the signup sheet in the first post - must have been the second string admin who set things up.

well shiver me timbers, there goes the neighborhood...the marina has some cool little cabins that they rent out, you might check those out...if I recall there is also a classy old B&B in town and.... Mike has that big motoryacht that he bought with the advertisement money, maybe he would rent you a suite

glad to hear you's are making the trip

I got the boat ready to float (with the exception of 100 gallons of gas, but that's cheap). I am going to try for Friday the 11th off work and I told the kids to plan on missing school that day (they didn't seem to mind), so we might be able to run up the creek Friday morning.

Plan is to get the boat fueled up Friday evening (of this week) and put it in the water. Then on Saturday give it a little shakedown Permatrim test and maybe try my new sturgeon rig out. Then by week's end have it loaded and ready to go. We'll see what happens.

I spent the night before last (4-3-08) moored in the Cathlamet marina in my boat. We fished the last two days of the spring chinook season at Tenasillhee (sp?) Island trolling and pulling Kwikfish. We hooked two and got one in the boat, about 12 lbs. There were a lot of boats fishing. The cabins at the marina are about $79 for the smaller ones per night. Launch fee was $6 and overnight moorage fee was $8. We ate at the two week old Mexican Restaurant nearby. My the meat in my buddy's carne asada (beef) looked exactly like the meat in my Chicken Chimichanga. Both were pork, must've been a special we didn't read about. It was mediocre overall.

It was convenient to duck across while fishing for lunch during part of the incoming tide to the Post Office Cafe in Skamokawa, WA about 5 miles downstream. Great ham and cheese sandwich and corn and crab chowder for about $7. We tied up at the kayak dock -- stupid place still has no cleats (even recessed or sturdy rings) to tie a real boat to, even after I suggested they install some about five years ago. Must not want much business, but good food all the same.

On our first morning to go fishing, I ran the Satisfaction up onto a sandbar. The depth finder went from 12 ft. to 8 to 2 to less than one in about a second. My boat will plane in 8" of water. The whole boat lifted up a bit on its own cushion of water and then came to a screeching halt. We went from 32 mph to stopped in about two boat lengths. Nice to have the jet pump and shallow deadrise for sure. We floated off about two hours later and continued on, no damage, more cognizant of the slope of the shoreline. I have only done that once before, in another boat, about ten years ago. Wakes you up. Glad I didn't have any kind of outdrive sticking down. Beatiful country. Many eagles and ducks, a few seals. There was snow very low down on the adjacent hills. I saw a 16 - 18 ft. C-Dory go by me, green stripe. I wonder who it was? C.W.

ouch CW, that sand bar trick sounds like a real quick way to wake one up in the morning...me thinks I'll stick to the usual pot of coffee :) sound like you had a fine weekend otherwise.

Anybody seen the weather report? it's looking like we're in for some fine weather & wine. I'll pick up some chicken or other kind of meat product for some BBQ action Saturday evening. I aim to bring a real BBQer this year rather than use the port issued incinerator.

I'm sure looking forward to getting on the river and doing some quality visiting.....word has it that we may have a special guest .

WAHOO

Whoever the special guest is, I hope they ain't bringing potato salad 'cause we just bought three big Costco jugs of the stuff. Who says I can't cook?!?

Costco tato salad, that's the good stuff. I suggested that the travelers bring nothing, but they might bring some fish.

I'm going to head down Friday after work...I can see getting off work early :)

Ken-
I've already made about 3 gallons of my home made chili. If time allows I make a tub of smoked salmon dip.
We will be heading down as soon as we can after work on Friday.
See you there!!

Toni is making a special kinda pasta, fruity, salad thingy and some sweet, hot, dip stuff. I may have to make a little smoked salmon dip too. Toni and I will be at the dock by noon on Friday. Will there be dockside electricity? Toni is kind of dependent on the microwave...

Yep on the electricity.

Sounds like we'll have a great group for Friday evening. I wonder if the waterside saloon has been sufficiently restored to hold us all.

I will have two 14 yo girls and an 11 yo girl watching movies on board Friday evening. If anyone has kids they are welcome to join mine while we are following B~C around town.

I'm sure Costco will bake something nice for us to bring

We're planning to leave early Friday afternoon so we can get there before dark...and I know Mike'll want to make some fun about the new tow rig

Am I correct that sturgeon's open (Saturday) but chinook isn't? Gotta dig around in the freezer to see if there're any smelt left :thup
