03/09 - 3/11 - Hontoon Island CBGT DeLand Florida

We intend to hold our 8th Annual gathering at Hontoon Island state park near DeLand Florida on March ninth to the eleventh. Florida does allow gatherings of up to 50 people at this time. We know that C-Brats are responsible people and will follow all reasonable safety precautions. Reservations MUST at this time be made online at Reserve America. No checking in at the park. I’ll have more information in the near future and of course everything depends on future State Park guidelines.

Even if you feel uncomfortable about a gathering think about doing you own trip on the St. John’s. It’s definitely an experience not to be missed!

"Thataway" already has reservations for slip 4A and I made them from the 5th thru the 12th. We may take day trips, or even an overnight trip on the weekend--but with the apparent inability to make payment when you are there (I experienced that to great inconvenience last year) make me a little gun shy, and I would rather pay an extra 20 to 40 dollars than be denied a place!

We are looking forward to safe and fun times. (We will most likely still be wearing masks and social distancing, even if there are vaccines available.). My face is ugly anyway-masks are an improvement!

Gigi will be there, and we hope that Angel will still be with us. This will be Gigi's first overnight boating experience.

It is always great to reconnect with the wonderful C Brat family!

Thanks Tom and Joyce!

We’ll plan on Mar 5-12. (Those ramps can get crowded on a gorgeous warm weekend).

We’re finding that cruising can be a safe experience for us geezers, since it CAN be all outside with social distancing including restaurants.

Agree with Bob that even if vaccines are available that meet the FDA’s requirement to be 50% effective...well, that’s not worth rolling the dice. Our group can do this safely and still have a good time.

We’ll likely spend 2-3 weeks before or after at

Under 300 miles south of Ed Stone, avg high 79-82, close to Marco Island and beaches but cheaper. Rig storage available if you wanted to do the South Florida Keys/OKEE loop (allow 14-21 days for that).

After the 21st of Dec, the days start getting longer, so summer is almost here!

Cheers!

John, what does calusa island marina have for $60 a night? ($2 a foot, 30 foot minimum for transits). Vs Hontoon for $20 a night?

I believe we need an "Event sign up" fir the Hontoon gathering.

See you at Hontoon.

Where do people launch?

Ed Stone park off Hwy 44 on the St. John's River. 2999 Old New York Park Ave. Also there is a camp ground and marina on the same road (Deland/St. Johns River KOA). Park on the grass by the highway and not in the regular slots. Those are for short term like day users and fishermen. Best not on a weekend.

Short run, parts of which are no wake zones, to Hontoon.

We're going to be there for one of the weekends or both. We're living too close now not to attend, but probably can't miss school or work this year for the official days of the event. We'll at least get to see some early birds and stragglers!

Hello Everyone,

My wife and I just got our C-Dory this year and am excited to go on our first Gathering and meet all at Hontoon Island in March 2021.

Slip 6B

Flyn 27, and other "new" coming from the West. We take I 10 to I 75. Although we can make it from Pensacola in one long day, we usually stop at "Casey Jones" campground near Lake City FL, just a few Miles South of I10.

We take exit 358 off I 75 (FL 326) to the east. In about 10 miles this dead ends into FL 40 E, (Left turn) go 24.9 miles and Turn Right on FL 19S, go 14.5 miles to Co Rd 42, turn left and go 18 miles until dead ends into FL 44, it is just about half a mile over the bridge to Ed Stone Park.

Florida changes to Eastern Time Zone just to the West of Tallahassee.

Thanks Bob, was wondering the best route to get there. Does everybody launch there and then go down river to the marina?
Ross

Yes, the only way to get to Hontoon is by boat. There is a free ferry to the other side of the river run by State Park Service. Limited hours. Some of the C Brats have been volunteers in the past and could run the ferry. I am not sure if that applies now with new rules and COVID.

It is about 3.5 miles from Ed Stone to Hontoon Island. Occasionally people have had the boat launched at the Marina near Hontoon.
