03/06 - 03/08 St. John's River Florida CBGT

Jim,
VHF 69, USA, Lo power.
Most of us forgot (including me) and just float by and scream.
Once we get our hearing aids and specs on we'll help you dock.
A crew from America's funniest Home videos is stationed here.
No pressure.
John

We're all having a great time here at the gathering. Yesterday had a couple at the park that deal solar power give a talk on everything you ever wanted to know about solar. Then I lead the first cruise around Hontoon Loop. Today Dr. Bob started out talking about everything C-Dory. Then John from Cat-o-Mine talked about Tomcats. After that, Ken the Park Ranger gave a talk about Hurricane Irma and it's affect on the park. We also had the big silent auction. Some nice things could be bid on. I'm sure a nice sum was raised for the park! Also, we have representatives here from the C-Dory factory and one of the local dealers, along with a couple of new boats. (They were here in the area from the Tampa Boat Show.) Great opportunity to actually speak with the reps, share suggestions and complaints, and learn first hand what's happening. St. John's River gathering, still one of the great ones!

Thanks for the update, Colby. Hope you are enjoying good weather down there - it is snowing again in Michigan!
Wolfgang and I would have loved to join the gathering this year, but my job won't allow.
Hope to make it next year!
Say hi to everyone!

Brrr is right. Suppose to get down to 39 tonight. Hey, I came down here for warm, whats going on! Temps have kind of bounced around a bit. Today was kind of cool and windy with temps barely into the 60's. Still beats the hell out of my home weather, but I would have liked to seen 80 the entire time here.... suppose 70's will do. We have had most days in the 70's, and it should climb back up to that after tomorrow. Officially, the gathering ended tonight. I believe we ended up with 25 boats or Brat families. (We had a few come without their boats.) However, many of us are sticking around a little longer, and at least 5 or 6 boats will follow Tom & Joyce on C-Otter south on the River for the next week or so, starting tomorrow around noon. The rumor is the gathering will be able to donate $1700 to the park after expenses. About $1100 of that came just from the silent auction that the Clows (Hank & Pat of Meri Aura) orchestrate. Top donation was a brand new West Marine Dinghy, that went for $450. I'll let Tom talk more about these numbers and how it helps the Park when he checks in later. This gathering does a great job in helping out the Park here, and several of our C-Brats are Park volunteers. I may have to come down earlier next year out of the Wisconsin cold, and volunteer! 8) Was great to have some factory and dealer reps here, along with a new 22, 23 and Tomcat. And as always, the food and social aspect was GREAT! As soon as Tyboo or DaNag see my earlier post asking for a photo album, and once I get back home where I'm not zapping my data plan, I'll upload some photos. Joyce keep that snow at bay! I believe we got about 4" of the heavy wet stuff back at home around Madison, WI, but hopefully it'll melt away before we get back later in the month. No gator feeding Harvey. Although my wife would have liked to fed me to the gator that dove 10 feet in front of her inflatable kayak, when she tried to quickly back paddle and I was in her way! lol! Cell and data service might be more limited for me over the next few days... Colby

Just uploaded some teaser photos. This is from the time I launched on Saturday before the gathering, finding some other early birds up at DeLeon Springs, and thru the first day of the gathering. I'll upload more later, but already in trouble with the wife for my cell data usage!

Nine of us are stopped for the afternoon at the Sanford public dock. Midnight Flyer, Mighty Wench, Mystery Girl, Tully-B, Calm C, Cat O Mine, Two Bears, Wee Bit and C-Otter. After taking in the sights of Sanford we will head down to Woodruff Creek to anchor for the night. Up in the 70’s today with some clouds. Has been in the 40’s at night, just right for sleeping. I think everyone had a great time at Hontoon Island, I know I did.

Just snuck in some more photo uploads. Now onto those photos after the gathering, with our flotilla of ten following Tom & Joyce on the C-Otter. Dropped one boat today who had to return, and will probably drop some more in the next few days as those that can't stay longer return. Since all my photos of the official gathering have been uploaded, I'll likely wait until I get internet service somewhere or home before uploading the rest. This was another great gathering, and more fun to come as some of us cruise the River together for the next week. Colby

Thisaway, bailed on Friday, and made it home in 9 hours of solid driving....Both of us are on the "injured" list, and with the lack of ability of either of us to lift generators, easily take the dinghy ashore with Miss Angel, discretion is the better part of valor. I'll be at a surgeons office arranging to get hernias, reduced and repaired this next week, and Marie is resting with some cracked ribs, and a gash in her leg. We were not even able to enjoy the pancake breakfast, after making the run up there....I spent last Sunday in the DeLand ER (good hospital).

But there is always next year! Photos will be downloaded tomorrow.
