03/06 - 03/08 - Indian Cove, South Sound

I seem to recall Jim States talking about hosting the South Sound again this year... Is it going to happen? Anyway, we HAVE to keep the tradition going, whether at Jim's or back at Jarrell Cove. This one is always so great! Steve and Kathleen? Robbi? Who is up for this? We'll be there (my chance to get Patty overnight on Crabby Lou again!). Somebody propose a location and dates, so we can get a sign up sheet going!

Heck, I might even make this one. Pat - why pick March as the month to try to convince Patty to overnight on the Crabby Lou? July or August when the weather is warm seems more likely to result in a pleasant O/N stay. I've found that when trying to convince Joyce to do something she's not too thrilled with, I only get a few chances so it's best if the conditions are optimal. Just my experience. Of course, you've been married longer than I, so who am I to give advice?

Married 41 damn years, Roger, or as we say, 39 damn years and 2 good ones! Seriously, you are no doubt right, but the South Sound was our very first CBGT, Swantown in March 2003, and a couple of Jarrell's Cove gatherings, so it has a certain sentimental aspect to it! Heck, last year it was evidently May, it really doesn't matter when, but we have to do it!

We would like to enjoy another South Sound gathering but request that it not take place on one of the first two weekends of Prawn season. We ran a bit ragged last year in order to get to the fire just as folks were heading off to bed.
I did have fun passing out BBQ prawns though.

Last year it was 5/2 to 5/4. Prior to crab season and right on the best prawn Sat of the year, with the prawn grounds hours away. Crab season opens in around June 17 or 18 in area 13. Could we make June 20/21 work?
A crab feast would be fun.

OK, sounds like we have dates - June 19 - 21, if that works lets see if we can get a signup sheet! I assume it is Jarrell's Cove unless somebody has another location to propose!

Pat, I did some checking and it looks like there are no year to year conflicts with these dates.
The only issue, and it may be of substance, is that I think the dock space is first come first serve. In May not an issue, but in June we may need to have at least a few get there Friday and act long and loud.
I can bring a boom box and we could put on eye patches, stage a late evening dock fight, bicker with our wives and hope for the best.

Don't know how to do the whole announcement and sign up thing but am willing to help with the planning, and I think we should start a new topic at least which has the correct dates in the heading.

I am just a lowly new guy, so all I can go back to is last year when the gathering was in May.
March is a fine month though. How about Blake Island, good shelters, lots of lawn for Ripper and we could even do the Salmon dinner thing (not a big selling point for me). The little marina is nice though, showers, and trails to walk.
Thing is, opening crab weekend is a far better time to gather in the South sound.

Hi All,

March is a great time for either Blake or Jarrell Cove. Launching in the South Sound, we know that there is little pressure at the docks and both locations have good amenities. Blake is our favorite spot in the off season. Looking forward to it regardless of the location.

Nothing like a little peer pressure - on last year's organizers. :)

I do plan on sponsoring the event again this time at Indian cove Marina before Mid May when our marina fills up with owner boats.

Indian cove is about 1/2 mile north by water and 1 mile by road of Jarrel Cove.

We have a new Marina Pavilion, concrete floor, new tables in our Marina that will hold 30-50 - its open on 3 sides. Cbrats could choose to use the shore power that is available - can't remember the rates but will post that soon.

The advantage of Indian cove - I can reserve the shelter and slips so its not a guessing game about who else will show up. The shelter is much larger, and fire pit is just next to it. Also there is shore power. Restrooms are warm and clean but no shower.

The advantage of Jarrell Cove is showers, camping sites available for those that come by car. They are only 1/2 mile apart by water so you can stay either place.

I am still working on the spring schedule and must talk to the Marina committee to see if any dates are taken for Indian Cove..

Last year Pat suggested we have some Saturday day trips perhaps to Allen - or for Espresso at FairHarbor - that is easy from Indian cove as you can leave your slip and return without losing it like in the state park.

More information this weekend -

Jim,

Can you provide us with the street address of Indian Cove Marina? A google on the marina pulls up one with that name in NY but not in WA. Has it changed names recently? E.g. when I look at maps on the internet, I can see a marina that is in the same general bay as the state park float and just NNW of the state park float, but the maps refer to that marina as "Jarrell Cove Marina".

OK, well, I will turn this back over to Jim, I just wanted to get things rolling since mid-January seems late to me to be setting up a March CBGT...Indian Cove sounds good, get us a March date, and let's get it on the books!

Here is an aerial photo of Indian Cove Marina.

If you open the following link to Shoreline Aerial Photos, it will show the location and other aerial photos including Jarrel Cove.

I'll try to get things set up this evening.

Indian Cove looks really neat. Reminds me of an old song by the Cowsils.

That cove looks ideal. I still think a better month could be selected so we can have an even chance of eating some fresh seafood.
Crab is good. No?
Anyway, so long as this does not cross with the prime prawn season weekends, I will be there.
