03/03 - 03/05 - Hontoon Island CBGT Deland, Florida

I just signed up. I attended last year for the first time (brrrr!) and had a good time. I have an Atlas Pompano 23, a downeaster design but similar to the C-Dory Angler 22 with a large open cockpit. Look forward to seeing y'all again.

No reason for delay other than the 1 is next to the 2 and even spell check could not help me with that. 😇
2021 is the correct year for possible change.

Sharon and I will be arriving Saturday Feb 29th, up for any quick trips before the gathering.

We look forward to seeing you at Hontoon (and environs). The pre and post trips are really great, if one has the time.

We usually get there on a Thursday or Friday, mid day, so that the ramp is not a crowded as on the weekend. You should still be fine--and get the cell phone number of some of us who are taking the "pre trip", to find out where we are. I realize you are also coming some distance, so it is not easy to change plans. Marie had to re-arrange a hair appointment--one of those things which seems to have to be scheduled months in advance. We guys are lucky--just stop in the corner barber shop and get er done!

Good traveling!

I'll be there. Sounds as though I need to put in at ramp there on 44 and leave the "rig." Stayed there at Hontoon Landing this past June. Didn't even go over to the park. How many slips are available? And I suppose they're first come, first serve right...with no reason to reserve one?

Ed Stone is where most of us park. No need to reserve slips. There are about 35. They want to use local firewood and the park has been supplying it.

I have not decided yet which direction I’m going to go after the gathering. Last year we went North to Jacksonville. Too many choices. A couple of weeks ago we explored a side river that we had never been on.

Only a few months to go...Tom

As of now, assuming we are not snowed in, we will probably get there Friday and launch. Likely moor at Hontoon by Sunday night to get our good spot. If the water is high enough, and we don't do anything else, I think we skipped pancakes this year, so we may head there next year again before the gathering. Colby

If the stars align and the weather behaves, Wendy and I will be there this year. We hope to arrive early and leave late, participating in any pre/post trips.

We are looking forward to being at the gathering again this year. If all goes as planned we will be bringing the boat!
Jim & Jeanine

I'll more than likely be by myself

No way HoJo is going camping this early in the season

And the hotel is sold out across the river, checked months ago

Colby,
This year Tom took us back from Ponce De Leon through Efing creek shortcut. It was like a scene out of The African Queen movie, except with more knee-deep areas and more leeches.

You'll love it.

John

John, that's probably the normal way we go. lol. And yes, some of those back creeks are interesting! Late Edit. Ok, looking at my charts there is an Eph Creek, and it's not a short cut. Or maybe it is depending on how you guys went. lol. I'll have to check with Tom later, and plot it out. I bet the water has to be high enough though. Colby

We've decided to come after all.
Why not dash from northern Wisconsin to Florida!
What's retirement for, anyway?
Looking forward to it.

Heading back to the Hontoon gathering with my Angler 19. Time to learn some new CDory tricks from the pros! Since I don’t have a lot of room on the boat, I just booked a room at the Riviera Resort and Marina about a mile away.

Can’t wait!

How to sign up. On the home page near the top you will see a horizontal list of links. The fifth one over is Event Signups. Enter there and you will see “Join a group” sign up and your set.

We are again looking forward to meeting the new attendees and of course the ones that keep coming back to enjoy the St. John’s River.

We always have a morning of boat seminars and I am looking for C-Brats to participate. Hint, Hint Dr Bob. In the past we have had great seminars on safety, solar, tires, first aid, boat systems and the list goes on and on.

For new comers note we have a contest on the favorite boat gadget. Be this years contest winner!

I’ve already filled up a box of odds and ends boat “treasures” for the Clow fundraising auction. The money raised by this last year helped put in the on island laundry.

Oops....time to go fishing....till next time...Tom

I plan on making my first gathering at this event. I'm leaving the boat at home until I figure out the logistics for the next time. FYI Hontoon resort is all booked due to some college rowing teams training there.
Can't wait to experience this get together.

Many C-Brats make Hontoon their first CBGT with their boat. The logistics are easy. Launch your boat at Ed Stone Park on HW 44 near Deland. Great ramp and easy parking. Recommend you park by the grassy area for oversized trailers if possible. Head up river (south) and you can’t miss the park. You’ll miss having your C-Dory. But in any case come and join the fun.

See you there! Tom

As Tom notes, the logistics of launching your boat, parking your TV and trailer and cruising up (can't quite get that in my mind, but understand the logic) the St John's for few miles to Hontoon. Last year was my first time and it couldn't have been easier.

And I would much prefer to hang out for this event on my boat than come over from shore each day.
