01/25 - 01/27 - 2013 Seattle Boat Show

Schedule of events:

Friday night - visit Snoqualmie Falls Brewing Company Taproom (8032 Falls Ave. S.E., Snoqualmie, WA). I have booked a 15 passenger van and will provide rides at no cost to anyone who wishes to go. The van will leave from and return to Occidental Avenue S. at the Northwest corner of Century Link Field (where the boat show is being held). We'll probably leave around 4:20 PM with an intended arrival time at Snoqualmie Falls Taproom of around 5PM. We'll depart from the taproom around 8:45 PM and return to the boat show area (with a dropoff near the hotel) around 9:15PM. So I can take 14. My wife can also drive another 4 people in her car and Tom has offered to drive some in his vehicle. I will start a separate thread for the taproom visit. I will need to get a good sense of who plans on going so that we the Taproom knows how much food to make and so I can be assured we have transport covered. Food will be $15/head.

Saturday evening: I've arranged for a banquet at Four Seas Chinese Restaurant. They expect us around 6PM. We can bring our own cake and they've put together a nice menu for us consisting of:

Steamed Hom Bow (sticky buns with BBQ pork inside)
Pan Fried Potstickers (Chinese dumplings)
Crab Rangoons (deep fried dumplings with crab and cream cheese filling)
Egg Flower Soup
Black Bean Chicken
Cantonese Chow Mein
Chef’s Assorted Vegetables
Pork Fried Rice

They're prepared for people who want to hang around and chat and there's reasonable selection of alcohol there. Again the cost will be $15/head not including tax and gratuity (18%). Again I will need a head count within 1 week prior so I can provide that to the restaurant.

Friday, Sat and Sunday mornings we'll meet for breakfast at the hotel. If any are interested, we could go out on Saturday during the day for an Argosy Locks cruise.

The Boat Show, the Boat Show, the Big Seattle Boat Show is just around the corner!

The 66th Annual Seattle Boat Show, Indoors + Afloat, takes place Friday, January 25 – Sunday, February 3 at CenturyLink Field and on South Lake Union. Tickets are now on sale at http://www.SeattleBoatShow.com.
Good news – Free Parking is Back! Purchase 4 or more adult e-tickets online and receive one day of free parking, a free cup of clam chowder from FX McRory’s restaurant, and a free one-year subscription to a boating magazine of your choice. All for just $12, it’s a perfect stocking stuffer! Or if you expect to go more than one day, the 5-day Big Show Pass is only $24.

New for 2013 – the Boat Show Family Pack only available online. Receive 2 adult tickets, 2 youth tickets, 4 hot dogs and 1 day of free parking all for just $49 (a $70 value)!

BTW - If anyone is looking to stay Friday and Saturday night at the motel, I reserved two rooms back in August. One for myself and Joyce and one for another C-Brat on the assumption that someone would want to come but wouldn't make the reservation early enough. I can cancel up to 24 hours before at no cost. So if anyone wants that room, let me know.

Fishing Seminars on Sat and Sunday at the Boat Show -

Many may not realize it or take advantage of it but the Seattle Boat show offers a number of free seminars on boating and fishing. The full list is at the boat show web site but I find their listing a bit difficult to navigate since the default view of the listings doesn't have the seminars in date/time order (you can change that by clicking on the date column). So I copied the fishing seminars that are being presented on the Sat. and Sunday of the CBGT. I'll put up a similar list of the boating seminars (filtered to remove talks unlikely to be of relevance to C-Brats).

Also, if anyone is interested in getting into salmon fishing but doesn't have the gear, I'd be happy to take you on a short shopping trip at the boat show and introduce you to the minimum collection of things you need. I'd also be happy to bring some charts and show people the places that I fish out by Neah Bay. Finally, I'd also be happy to talk about what I've learned to date about albacore but I must admit I'm just learning the albacore game (we put 31 in the boat this year on about 5 trips).

I like the title of the first one "Learning to Mooch Salmon". I got pretty good at mooching Dungeness Crabs. Could be just sitting on the dock looking hungry and saying "Really nice Crabs you have there" helped.

Herb,

Mooching is a term used out on the West coast for drift fishing a herring near the bottom for salmon. The origin of the term is somewhat debated but it is claimed to come from people "mooching" bait from either bait docks or other fishermen. Here's a link on the technique.

Herb, the other possibility is that if they don't have the "nice" variety, you could get very wet, very fast! :cry

Give your pup a hug for us...

Roger,

Thanks for posting the tables. I knew that they had seminars, but was not aware they were included with the entry. Sure hope I get to go. Still in the if/maybe category. Hope to see you all there.

As some of you may have noticed in a separate thread, Chromer pointed out that our own Sam Landsman will be speaking at the Seattle Boat show and will be giving a talk entitled "22 Feet to Alaska: Anacortes to Glacier Bay & Back in a 22ft C-Dory". That talk will cover his trip from this past year as was documented in this thread and his beautiful blog referenced within that thread. For those of you who haven't read any of his blog, I'd highly recommend that you do. The photography within is really well done and Sam got some beautiful shots. Tom came up with the great idea that maybe we could get Sam to do the talk for us and the good news is that Sam has agreed!

So.... Sam will be giving his talk on the Friday evening at the Snoqalmie Falls Taproom. I'll be brining a computer projector and we'll rig up some kind of a screen. We'll probably start the talk around 7:30 or 8:00PM so it's over in time for us to return to the hotel or home at a reasonable hour. Sam has also indicated that he'll be bringing some copies of the Waggoner's Cruising Guide to the taproom and will be able to sell them to C-Brats at a somewhat discounted price. So, here's another fun and exciting reason to come to the CBGT! :thup

Sounds like a trip to the SFB might be in order for that talk. AND to see my Brat friends. Don't think I can make the SBS CBGT shindig this year but I would really like to hear Sam and see more of his pictures.

Just had to cancel reservations we've had for months. Minor health issues only, (Tom, don't send in the moles (inside joke, sorry)). Will miss seeing everyone. Hoist one or three :cocktail :cocktail :cocktail for Sally and me!

Charlie

OK, I was able to stop by Triton Marine (the C-Dory factory) and had a short but very informative chat with Scott Boysen! The factory floor was completely full of C-Dorys and Ventures, and one Osprey - did not look like there was room for one more boat in there!

The big news is that Waypoint Boats is now a C-Dory dealer and will be showing a new blue hulled Venture 23. They have been the Sea Sport dealer for some time. Seattle has needed a C-Dory dealership for a long time, and these folks are the real McCoy when it comes to marketing. This should be a big boost for the C-Dory line! Master Marine will also be showing a C-Dory 22.

Scott said he will be coming to the Friday shindig at the Taproom, and will try to get John Baker, the manager of Waypoint Boats to come as well. Another reason, along with Sam Landsman's "22 Feet to Alaska" talk, to make the trek out to Snoqualmie! Rogerbum needs to hear from you if you plan to ride in a van (there may be two vans if there are enough people).

Patty just made our reservation for Saturday night at the Silver Cloud today! Our plan is Friday afternoon/evening at Taproom, Friday night at home in Fall City, head on into SBS Saturday, stay at Silver Cloud Saturday night, breakfast with the Brats, then home Sunday morning. It will be weird because we have done every SBS since 2003 with David and Kate, and sat down and bought boats together twice, but they won't be coming this year.

Does that mean you can't buy a boat this year?

That is correct. Actually Patti is paying us to stay home so there will be NO chance of them buying a boat.

David-

Are you sure?

That new truck would pull a Ranger Tug just fine!

Joe. :teeth :thup

Joe, Pat would NEVER do that , would he? Oh wait, you meant our own Pat Anderson, didn't you...???

Patty, lock him up!

Let Harper keep an eye on him....
