    Windlass replacement bolts?

Last fall, while replacing a friends sailboat buy in 4-5 foot waves, our anchor mount got caught and ripped off. All four bolts sheared flush with the deck. My question is: are these bolts designed to shear under a certain amount of torque? Or.. just standard stainless bolts? I’m certainly...

    Hydraulic leaking - Honda BF90HP - 2007

Hey -- I have a Cape Cruiser (Venture) 26 - 2007 with twin Honda 90hp outboards. Getting ready to launch this spring (Vermont, so there are definitely seasons.. ) - I discovered leading from the hydraulic motor on one engine. Through a Honda shop, 'O' rings were replaced and things we...

    Roof rack modification help

We used a pair of Yakima roof rack bars (78" long) -- and mounted via 4 Yakima cross-bar clamps on the roof hand-rail bars. Stainless steel is coated with rubber and it all seems to be very weather-resistant. In the end, we also added a Yakima 'MegaWarrior' roof basket - which let's use put...

And so it begins Bottom Painting

We had very good luck using a product call 'Copper Coat' with a few layers of barrier coat beneath it, as our boat was unpainted when we bought it in 2020. Supposed to be a 15 year solution .. and, after year 1 of keeping it in the water for 5 months or so, we see no indication that it won't be...

    C-BRAT Calendar 2022 Submission Request

Speaking for myself, as a newer member/owner, we had a lot more photos that would have be interesting to consider.. but most all taken with our iPhone and not meeting the quality/pixel requirements. Going forward, we'll be aware an be able to take a few more shots with our SLR for that higher...

Hey JDrew- We're over the hill near Bristol.. and also spent time at PointBay this summer.. Good luck getting everything up and running.. and reach out if we can be helpful. We're only a year or so ahead of you C-Dory experience.. but have gone to school on a fair bit in that time. Best- Jeff

    Mystery Switch - any thoughts?

Thanks.. and I'll review. Yes, we have string lights under the cockpit gunnels.. and they seem to operate directly from the 'Deck Lights' main switch on the dashboard. Perhaps the localized switch option was by-passed by the previous owner. Thanks.. and not sure quite what to do about any...

    Mystery Switch - any thoughts?

Hey- Earlier this summer, I stumbled into a switch on the aft port side of our cabin exterior wall. (Cape Cruiser 26'/2007). Through trial/error, I can find nothing that this switch seems to activate or turn-off.. and I have no idea what the initial function may have been. Given that the...

Canoe as tender / Roof Rack storage

Noted and agreed. Wee Lassie models are awesome for being light-weight - for our purposes, a single paddler model that you sit on the bottom with limited carrying was tough (despite the temptation to go this way and just get 2). I believe the width is about 27" -- where this model is 40"...

Canoe as tender / Roof Rack storage

Having done a lot of canoeing in a previous life, I was inclined to sort out how to bring a canoe with us in our (mostly pending) travels. We landed on a 14' kevlar canoe.. that is 40" wide, extremely stable and weighs under 50 lbs. There is also a model ( a bit rich for me right now, but on my...

    Cockpit Bench Seating

gotcha.. that was that way when I got it.. and I was told it had been cone as a 'custom color' at manufacture (cape cruiser).-- so that's original. I haven't gotten to anything 'aesthetic' -- and probably still a long ways out for doing that type of thing (if ever.. ) -- lots of fun functional...

    Cockpit Bench Seating

aahh... so if you are talking about the hull covering / bottom paint -- we used 'Coppercoat' -- which is a an epoxy paint.. with high-copper content. Low-leach epoxy.. stated to last 10-15year.. and the #1 rated environmental product we could find. So far so good with the coppercoat.. but...
