More Honda corrosion problems in my BF-200

I had corrosion problems in my Honda 90 that caused me to repower. Mechanic looked at it and said "typical." I've now got a Mercury.

Flushing the motor in brackish waters

When we purchased our C-22 it had a Honda 90 and had been used (and still is) on the brackish waters of Chesapeake Bay. I routinely flushed it after use, but not sure the original owner did. After a couple of years, the engine failed due to internal corrosion. We got the boat at a price that...

Many ways to sink a boat: Plug, Washdown, and Bilge Pump

When we re-powered, the dealer put our C-22 in the water and I came over for the test run. After we got the boat back on the trailer, I noticed that the stern plug was not there!!! Never even noticed underway or at the dock!

Forward Dock Lines, Snubbing and chafing

Our boat is typically in the water all year long, except for maintenance. It gets used for short hops usually. Protected water except for the occasional idiot throwing a huge wake. Haven't had any issues. Tie up is to fixed pilings with a line to each stern cleat and two lines to the center...

Forward Dock Lines, Snubbing and chafing

I usually use the cleats by the forward windows when I tie up somewhere other than home, at least for short stays, as it is more convenient than the center cleat on the bow. At our home berth, we have two lines, port and starboard, that go to the center cleat on the bow. I put chafe gear made...

Engine Corrosion and other fun things

I've used FluidFilm on the galvanized rigging of an old sailboat with good success.

WHEN DO WE RETIRE FROM BOATING?

I have to agree with Kenn. I retired a few years ago, turned 65 last October and was in the best physical shape I've been in years with 130 days on the water last year (between my kayak, C-Dory, and sailboat) and then in November was diagnosed with stage IV metastatic melanoma. Changes your...

    Fuel Selector Valve Label

This is great! I've been fighting that label battle for a while. I'd definitely be interested in getting one. I just need to verify my orientation, etc., and I'll send you a message.

    COLD TEMPERATURES ACROSS THE USA

Definitely cold here! Wind is going to stop and water will probably freeze tonight, but the deicer will keep her floating free!

    Steps in the cockpit

We installed these Garelick steps. I had to put in a couple of supports since the height isn't exactly right. I got a second set of mounts and put supports on the other side of the cockpit, too, so that we can move them to whatever side we need.

    Android tablet

Correct. However, Android tablets typically have GPS and it is great redundancy. With it in the tablet, you don't have to worry about setting up any external network connection if you don't want to. The price is cheap enough that I would highly recommend an internal GPS. If you want to do...

    Android tablet

I use an inexpensive Android tablet with Aquamap on our C-Dory and it has been working great. My VHF radio has a built in AIS receiver and GPS, so I take the NMEA data from that and run it to an NMEA to WIFI converter. The tablet picks up the wifi and so I have all the data on Aquamap. There...

    Almost run down

Thanks for all of the thoughtful comments. I'm especially shocked to hear of how many have had much more serious incidents. Makes what we experienced nothing. Just to make a few reply comments, yes the radio works properly. I actually inspect commercial vessels communications systems, so...
