    dingy hoist block & tackle?

I am no longer using the Garhauer on Dessert 1st (sold the kayak), so if someone is interested, contact me. Very good price for the major components. Local (close to FL) would be best as mailing would be a PITA. Best, Casey 602-418-8267

    Daydream's Great Loop Blog!

Great start; enjoy your Adventure! As you continue along the ICW, here's a book recommendation: Henry M. Plummer's "The Boy, me, and The Cat.". It is the story of a fellow and his eighteen year old son, who sailed the ICW from Massachusetts to Miami on their 24 foot catboat ... in 1912/1913...

    Installing Honda 2000 or similar

Like Baxter, we have used a Honda 2000 on the swimstep a few times. Although it works fine we found that the sound (quiet as it is...) in an otherwise quiet anchorage was not for us, so we don't bother with the generator any more (but we keep it handy for hurricanes!). One thing we did do that...

Fitting the Standard Garhauer Davit for lifting a dinghy

We sold our Hobie tandem kayak a couple years ago, so no longer need the Garhauer lift we had mounted on "Dessert 1st." (Pictures in our album.) The lift has been gathering dust in the store room.... If anyone is interested, send me a PM - I'm sure we can come to an arrangement. (Shipping may...

    Daydream's Great Loop Blog!

Pat&Patty, I don't know if this has been mentioned or not, but here goes.... As many of you know, Mary is a Very active FaceBooker. During our 2016 truck camping exploration of the Canadian Maritime Provinces she did an excellent photo documentation of the entire trip. It was quite a...

    Charts for Lake Powell

Do you know if anyone has developed a nav app where you can key-in the lake level and thus depict a more accurate view of the lake? Best, C&M

Casey&Mary to Alaska ... by land.

We have a Thermacell, and will definitely take it. As I recall it is not to be used in an enclosed space (i.e. covered truck bed) because it would be toxic (not to mention smelly). Idea. I wonder if a piece of cloth, liberally sprayed with good bug spray (deet), cling anti-static, or some...

Casey&Mary to Alaska ... by land.

(Jay) Yea, mosquitoes (and noseeum's in some places) are definitely a concern. I'm trying to think of ways to mitigate that - but haven't come up with a viable solution yet. I don't think we'll be getting too far out into the 'boonies (like you and JoLee) but will tend to stay on paved roads...

Casey&Mary to Alaska ... by land.

Well, we were planning to spend the summer exploring the Trent Severn & Rideau Canals in Ontario. Yesterday we had lunch with some friends who are taking their RoadTrek (19' Class B) to Alaska. The "Alaska Fire" was already smoldering, but it quickly got hotter ... pretty fast. By Happy Hour...

    Charts for Lake Powell

Mike, I am faced with a similar situation (our old Humminbird plotter/sounder just isn't up to the task of current charting). It has become the secondary nav unit (used mostly as a 'sounder). We now rely on the iPad3 and a variety of really good 'apps. Several years ago (aboard CD Naknek) I...

    River Horse ... Revisited???

Yea, I may have to revisit River Horse one of these days before too long. I looked at the .kmz file that conunuu provided; pretty neat. The routing is amazing, and fun to fly along via computer, even if we don't make the real trip. It would be fun to use Google Earth and "fly" upstream a...

    River Horse ... Revisited???

Ok ... many of us cut our C-Dory 'teeth after reading William Least Heat-Moon's "River Horse." His book was the first I'd ever heard of a C-Dory. He planted the seed. Has anyone considered re-doing his East-to-West journey? I have thought about it, and the more I think ... the more tempted I...
