    Windlass

It's time for us to put a windlass on our 22 C. We have been hand pulling two anchors for 15 years. Our backs say "spend the money and save us." Is this a shop job or can we do it? I'm okay with the electrical, but have my doubts on the deck plate mounting. I've seen the recommendations for the...

    Lake Powell

Are any Brats going to attempt Lake Powell this fall? We are thinking about mid September if any ramps are open. Any intel or thoughts?

    towing kayaks, dingy, sup etc

We try not to tow when possible. The weather on LP is crazy at times. We've had our dingy flipped over by wind while towing. We have had to make emergency recoveries more than once. We now either put them on the roof or in the back strapped to a bar like yours. Have fun ,but don't underestimate...

    Portable Refrigeration

We use the exact system that Greg does, except using gel packs to rotate. Of course, we have one ice tray for cocktails. We have gone three weeks without buying ice and have only had one battery issue. In the San Juans during a smoky summer we never saw the sun. The solar could not keep up while...

Poor planning on my 22’ cruiser

When we re-powered we made one trip without the Permatrims. We reinstalled them immediately. It is not the same boat without them. I agree with those that say 8mph is too fast. We travel 6 or 16 when possible. Actually, it's more like 5.5 mph. The only time we travel in the range between is when...

Winter Cover for C-Dory 25 Cruiser

We use an RV cover. It has lasted 3 years, but this may well be it's last.

    Solar Battery Charger

We use a Mohoo 100W fold-able panel. We run a small Engel freezer for cocktail ice and to freeze ice blocks for the Yeti. I wanted a portable panel so we could anchor in the shade and extend out to the sun. So far, so good. The only time we have run the batteries down was during a summer in the...

    First PNW Winter

    Why have a dingy?

One of the biggest reason factors in the dingy debate is the ability to bring the dingy on board. Towing a dingy has got us into more trouble than any thing else. Like my wife says " It's all fine until it all goes horribly wrong." The advantages are many ,but the hassle is great as well. We...

Dry Suit vs. Wet Suit vs. Survival Suit

We are looking at kiteboarding drysuits for the same reasons. Yes they are expensive. I like the multitasking design of these suits, check them out.

    Portable battery powered fan

We also use the Ryobi system. We used it last at Lake Mojave on a stretch of 104* days. Works like a charm. We have two batteries aboard and use one for the fan and the other for a spotlight. We also have a small Ryobi vacuum aboard to suck up flies.midges, and sometimes errant popcorn. We...

    Fresh water tank

I have a water tank that I removed. You can have it for free if you are ever in Southern California. I put in a water bladder when we re-configured the interior.

    cockpit seating

We use the WEST MARINE Go-Anywhere Seat 2, both as our helm seat and outside seating. Portable ,comfortable and multi-purpose. We set them on the ice chests. I use mine on our forward facing "crew seat" while my wife drives me around.

    Greetings and a newbie question

We put "jack lines" around the boat and clip in when things are sketchy. I too am "not small" and the boat heals over when I have to go forward. I have never fallen off ,but I have scared myself a few times. The ropes really help. By the way the "cute factor" has earned us great conversation...

Setting up for a Tuna run at westport/ilwaco

I only know Southern California style Albie fishing, but it may help. We use smallish 5" swimbaits in a dark purple or black sardine color with a 1 oz head. The large head keeps it down while trolling in rough seas at 7-9 knots. Use a drop of super glue to hold the body on the head. A dislodged...

Who wants to learn tuna fishing and buddy boat?

Here in So Cal. we have to run out 80 miles at times. I've always wanted to spend the night "embedded" in a kelp patty. We use 4-5 inch soft plastics in a sardine color rigged on a heavy head. We troll pretty fast 7 -9 mph and a big head keeps the bait in the water. The single hook allows the...

    Glen Canyon (now Lake Powell)

Lake Powell is a magical place. I can't imagine what Glen Canyon must have been like. For more great history and a fantastic story of the area everyone should read "The Emerald Mile." We hope to see all you brats this year in Oak Caynon.

    Freezer/Refrigerators, portable

I did not see one mention of Engel brand freezers. We have been looking at "upgrading" our solar and putting in a fridge/freezer. Does anyone have experience with an Engel? My sailing buddies swear by them.
