It's official - Napoleon has a new owner

Napoleon's new owner hauled her away today. We just spoke a few minutes ago as he was approaching the east side of the Cape Cod Canal. To see her leave the yard for the last time was of course bitter sweet. For those who read my listing I was selling due to prioritizing more time to run...

Windlass causing unusal drop in voltage

Napoleon is back in the water and looking great! During my shakedown cruise for this season I noticed when I engaged the windlass, with engines running, it would drop my voltage to the point where it would reset my GPS/Radar system (this has never happened before). Using a multimeter I...

How did you fare in the East Coast storm?

How did everyone make out? I awoke this morning to find a tree right on top of Napoleon. Radar is gone, structural damage, window frames bent, etc. Ugh...let's hope insurance works.....

Who was in Boston Harbor this past weekend in a C-25?

I was training on a commercial vessel and noticed a C-25 just off the Charlestown pier #4 this past weekend. Anyone here I know?

Ideas for removing 3M4200 from Sunbrella seat cushion

I ended up with some cured 4200 on my first mate seat. I tried hot water, and acetone with toothbrush and nothing worked. Acetone works great on the hard surfaces but the soft material would not release it. Suggestions short of having my seat re-covered with Sunbrella? Thanks

    Music devices

I have a decent (but simple) sound system in Napoleon and can play radio, CD's, and Ipod. The problem I have found (for many years on many boats) is the connections in the back eventually come loose. Most systems are designed like car systems with a plug that goes in the back of the head unit...

Difficulty removing steering wheel on the Tomcat

I began the process of replacing my steering system today. Teleflex completely replaced my steering system (helm pump and two rams) with a beefier model. So far everything is going very well. I replaced the helm pump with no problem and one of the rams. (I ran out of daylight for ram #2)...

    Dinghy completed!

I've been chipping away at building a dinghy this winter and finally installed the final trim and hardware. It's finished! I look forward to the first splash. Here are the pics from the construction. The only remaining step is to have a Fisheries inspector come out for the inspection and to...

Napoleon due for more steering system work

Toward the end of last season I noticed my engines would slowly fall hard over when raised. Meaning, I would trim them up at the end of the day (straight up) and when I arrived the following weekend for example they were hard over. Over the course of this winter fluid has run out under my port...

Any Tomcat owners using ablative paint?

Good afternoon gentlemen. You may have read some of my posts about paint pursuits and experiences. I have never been able to get more than 4 months with any paint before I develop a sweater and need to power wash. 2700 nautical miles in three seasons means I am not sitting still and I have...

    End of season 3

Well it's officially the end of my third season with Napoleon. This was the best season yet: over 1100 nautical miles on the GPS and 100 engine hours added this season. I discovered some new (to me) dive sites which were great. I took the last few days off from work to do all the...

Looking for advice for Navy Nephew (nuke)

Hi guys, I have a nephew about to complete his service with the Navy as a nuke on boomer subs. He is looking for job opportunities on the outside. I would welcome any advice and if possible networking/job contacts. For what it's worth he's a great kid, married with 4 kids of his own, well...

    How to handle rough seas

There are skippers with a lot more experience than me on this board, but Mike's request on the other thread sounded like a good idea and an interesting topic to discuss. I'll start with my advice: 1.) AVOID IT - this is the obvious cliche but seldom respected enough. If you go out on the...

How to adjust wiper angle and Suzuki throttles?

I have been meaning to do a couple of projects since I bought the boat. Does anyone know how to adjust the angle of operation on the AFI 1.5 motors? Also, does anyone know how to adjust the tension on the Suzuki throttles? The older side mount type has a single screw to adjust but the new top...

Boston to Cuttyhunk Island and Woods Hole

Boston – Cuttyhunk Island July 9-11, 2010 Total distance: 174 nautical miles Day 1 The Admiral and I got an early start out of Boston today. We were loading the boat as the sun was rising. We were headed for Woods Hole and wanted to make slack tide at the Cape Cod Canal. The skies were...

This is why we have boats!

The Admiral and I hosted 5 guests aboard Napoleon last night for the Boston Pops and the fireworks on the Esplanade/Charles River in Boston. There were hundreds of boats but we got a great spot with an unbelievable view and we could hear the pops from the Hat Shell. Here's a video of the...

Responded to MAY DAY call today....

We had flat calm seas, dead calm wind, and perfect sunny skies this morning in Boston. I was heading out to dive when the following came over Ch. 16: "MAY DAY, MAY DAY, MAY DAY, PASSENGER SHIP MASSACHUSETTS HAS RUN AGROUND AND TAKING ON WATER - REQUEST ASSISTANCE". Hi yi yi....I had *just*...

Wind flipped my dinghy today (with engine attached)

Well today after a nice day on the water I returned to my mooring to find my dinghy upside down. Fortunately the engine was still attached. I have rescued this engine from a submersion once before but we'll see about this time. It could have been upside down for hours. When I got home I...
