    Streaks in Gel Coat

The accent stripes (dark green: on hull sides and around cabin top) on my CD have streaks and faded spots. I can't seem to get them out. It seems that they are not simply surface oxidation, but embedded in the fiberglass. Any suggestions? Any products to recommend? (THANKS!)

    Distance between Twin Outboards??

My brother-in-law is building a 23.5' boat similar to the C-Dory. He is planning to power it with twin 40s or 50s. He is asking for info on the distance needed between the motors, to prevent (or minimize) cavitation. Any info or advice would be welcome! Thanks.

    Gunk in Sliding Window Tracks

This past week, I gave the exterior of my '99 CD-22 a thorough cleaning. As I was rinising off the cabin with a hose spray, small pieces of dirt begin falling below the sliding windows...and continued to fall. Finally, I realized that this "gunk" was coming from the sliding tracks for the...

    COLD Lake Ontario

Tuesday afternoon, in a NE wind, I put into L. Ontario and made a quick run. The temp gauge registered 41-42 degrees, and hit a low of 40.5! Apparently, the water had "turned over" (which typically happens when we get a strong wind from the NE).

Trailering from the US into Canada?

We have crossed the border into Canada with the CD, and know the required routine for getting into Canada and back into the US...via boat. This summer we plan to trailer the CD across the border and do some boating in Canada, and then trailer it back into the US. Can we check the boat into...

    Cheap Gas Gauge

This one is free! Before flling up with gas, I put a pencil line at the gas line on one of the plastic see-through gas tanks. Then I put in exactly five gallons of gas and stopped pumping, climbed into the boat and and put another pencil mark at the top of the gas line. When I got home, I...

    Step Extension

We want all CD-22 C-brats to know... Our use of the folding stool (see sub-album Various Ideas for photos) to extend the molded step for safe entry and exit... ...is the best idea since sliced bread!! It really makes a difference! It really works! (And it is very cheap: about $10.)

    Transducer Measurements: From What Point?

Since the transducer is below the waterline, is it reading water depth from that point, near the bottom of the boat, or...?

    Towing: Size Matters

A week ago, I read an interesting discussion re towing large boats/trailers vs. smaller tows. I can't find that thread now, but I have been thinking about this discussion and want to share a few thoughts based on my own experience. I think one CAN get comfortable (and fairly expert at) towing...

    Protection when Towing

Has anyone found a product to protect the front of the boat while towing? Bubble wrap works. But taping it in place is work, and removing the glue left behind by the tape is nigh impossible. (What kind of tape holds well, but removes easily, leaving minimum residue? What product works well...

    Laptop Software?

Can anyone recommend good navigation software (MS Windows) to run on my laptop? I am particularly interested (because of where I live and do most of my boating) in Lake Ontario, including the Canadian side. Thanks, Wayne

    Locals on Local Waterways

Dear C-Brats: How about sharing recommendations on local waterways? Postings might include information on the following questions: What local waterways are "right-sized" for the C-Dory? What are the best access/launch sites? What is the level of boating traffic? What kinds of activities can...

    Water Noise Through Hull

Dear C-Brats: I sneaked away from work and spent ca. 3 hours this afternoon on the Erie Canal. I had already taken the cushions out of the V-berth for the winter. I was amazed at how much more water noise came through the hull in the front part of the boat. (Note: the canal is flat water...

Storm in NE October 28-29, 2006

I just posted four photos of L. Ontario (located at the end of the Little Mac Album). As the winds picked up to 40+ mph (some areas got gusts of 55+ mph), the lake appeared like an ocean with waves (rollers) of 20+ feet.

    First Snow: October 12, 2006

I have posted two photos of the C-Dory in our backyard this morning (10/13)...covered with snow. Buffalo and counties west and south of Rochester got more than 12" overnight, a record even in these parts for the earliest first snow. Presently, as I write this note, the I-90 Throughway...

Space Inside the Bunks in the V-Berth

Is there any space under the bunks in the V-berth, or is that area filled with flotation? Has anyone ever cut into that area to take a look? Is there a compelling reason not to do so?

    Undocking Technique

Twice, I have found myself in a situation where the wind was blowing our C-Dory up against the dock alongside. How does one get away from the dock in such a situation? Once, I asked my wife to push off from the cockpit...which was the wrong thing to do! Pushing the stern away from the dock...

    Electric Adapters

Where can one buy marine adapters? I have a fifth wheel trailer with 50 amp service, and carry adapters from 50 to 30 amp, and 30 amp to 20/15 amp service. Such "standard" adapters are readily available (at places like Camping World) and can be had for a few dollars. What I need for use...

    Grab Rail "Gap"

How can one "bridge the gap" between the grab rail along the top side of the cabin and the bow rail (with a secure handhold, rather than simply grasping the eyebrow)?
