    C-Dory History

From a discussion with a friend, a couple of questions have come up. Although the answers are likely on the site, I have not been able to find them after searching so here they are: 1) When was the first CD22 built? 2) When was the "major" hull change in the 22? Thanks.

For pictures of the camera boat in the article Starcrafttom listed, go to www.uscameraboats.com The boat is a rather awesome and specialized machine!

    Electric Horn VS Air Horn

When we had our Nordic Tug 32 it had electric horns. One of our top of the line ICOM VHF radios was hooked up to a hailer so that it could sound the proper signals in reduced visibility. I never felt that the hailer signals were loud enough and in fact, they were a lot less loud than the horn...

Two VHF Radio's and Two antennea

I agree with Bob. I have had 2 VHF radios aboard all my boats for probably 15 years or more. Where I normally boat, VTS is not in use but the commercial traffic announces its intentions and communicates with one another on VHF13. You can learn a lot from their communications and are much...

    V-Berth Storage

The So-Pac hatches are low profile. I have not measured them but they stick up between 1/4 and 3/8" and I don't believe that they will be particularly noticeable under the cushions. If you need an exact measurement, let me know and I will go grab it. Jim

    V-Berth Storage

The C-Daisy pictures show the process very nicely. As to your thought about making "camera case cutouts" that might be possible but I suspect it would not be easy. The foam is hard, open cell spray or pour in place foam that then expanded as it set up. It does not completely fill the space...

    V-Berth Storage

C-Daisy posted photos of the installation of hatches in the V-Berth on a CD22. The incremental storage is of extreme interest to us so I ordered hatches and today tackled the first part of the project. Here are some details in case anyone else is tempted by the photos in the C-Daisy sub album...

    Calling New England Boaters-Question

I agree with Ripple. On LI Sound, you can run nearly year round or indeed year round. With one of our previous boats, we did run year round on the Sound for many years. The off season was some of the nicest times as there were no crowds! (LOL!) You do need to be self sufficient and...

    RADAR reflectors

Nick is right about Practical Sailor having tested the Radar Flag and found it to be ineffective. For a lot of useful technical discussion about radar reflectors, check out http://www.theradarreflectorsite.org/ The guy who does the site has an appropriate technical background and writes for a...

    New Lazarette Covers

I mentioned earlier on this thread that I had severe water intrusion and rot around the entire edge of the port lazarette hatch when I removed it extending back several inches in some places. I was dreading tackling the starboard lazarette hatch but I did it this morning. Pried it off and the...

    New England loop?

Matt -- If you are contemplating a trip like that there is a good bit of information out there on it. It even has a name -- "Down East Circle Route" which is also the name of Cheryl Barr's book on that route. Full title is "A Complete Cruising Guide to the Down East Circle Route." Book is...

    Question for the Captains

I sent the link for this thread to a friend who knows a thing or two about aircraft and vessels. Here is Andy's take on the first photo: "BTW, the B-52 on CVA 68 (the Nimitz) doesn’t look dimensionally correct. The max flight deck width of the ship is 252 feet and the wingspan of a Buff is...

    New Radar

The only thing I have seen on pricing suggested that they would be less expensive than a 4kw pulse type radar. Jim

    New Radar

I don't generally run my radar on longer ranges than 3 miles. Frequently, I am at 1 mile and less in crowded areas such as harbors. I do use the long ranges to detect thiunderstorms and to plot their movement and it will be interesting to see how the broadband units will work for that. My...

    New Radar

For those contemplating adding radar or upgrading their radar, there is a new radar in the process of being introduced that looks positively amazing. It is broad band radar. I first read about it on Panbo at the following link: http://www.panbo.com/archives/2008/11/n ... _deal.html Lowrance...

    Electronics

One of the reasons I am not a fan of multi function displays is that I have had them fail without losing all electrical power in the boat. If it is being used as a multifunction device, you lose a number of separate types of electronics such as GPS, chart plotter, radar and depthfinder if they...

Biggest, Brightest Full Moon of 2008 tonight

Jim -- Thanks for bringing this celestial event to our attention. I just went out to take a look. The moon in on the back side of our house and is so bright that you can see a clear and impressive shadow of the house when you look out the front door. Way cool.

    North Pacific 28?

I would like it to be noted that in spite of the theme of this thread, I have resisted the impulse to say any of the things that came to mind upon hearing that all three models of the Ranger will be in Miami!!

    Water Tank

Just for completeness in case someone looks at this thread in the future, here are a couple of details of what I have decided to do: On my boat, the inside dimensions of the aft dinette seat box where the factory water tank is located are 21 3/4" x 21 3/4". The depth is 23" at the inboard...

    Fixing Deck Core Penetrations

We have covered this subject a number of times and Bob Austin and others have given good advice. I was visiting one of the other sites I check out periodically and found the link to a very thorough and comprehensive, illustrated look at sealing deck hardware penetrations in cored decks and...
