    Anyone install an aluminum mast??

starcrafttom: That is exactly what I am looking for! Thanks. I tried Googling and have looked in all the Marine stores but can only find the larger towers and couldnt find the combo deck light, Radar, GPS, Anchor light etc. I am looking at the 8" riser with all the attachments and the JRC...

    Anyone install an aluminum mast??

Roger, I do like the mast on the Ranger but like Seawolfe points out, I dont want to screw up the classic looks of the CDory. I dont have to worry about a folding mast up here and I keep the boat out in the weather (though tarped) in the winter. I will have to give this some more thought.

    Anyone install an aluminum mast??

Has anyone considered or installed an aluminum mast? I am considering having a small mast made to house the all around light, GPS antenna, deck lights etc and was looking to see if anyone had done this before or if anyone had some ideas.

IT"S MORE THAN JUST FREEZING IN FAIRBANKS!

I just got home from Fort Richardson and it was indeed cold in Anchorage. Glad to be home in the banana belt...23 degrees, a couple feet of snow, and snow forcast for the next week. Still havent had to wear a heavy coat yet this year!

    Firearms onboard

Fishbats work on drunks in Washington State, in Alaska where most people are armed (particularly in the bush) it gets you shot.

    Firearms onboard

StarcraftTom: Generally I agree with you on the hand gun issue. I have 20 years active duty with the Marine Corps and Army (almost all Infantry) and even though I generally shoot expert in both rifle and pistol, I dont carry a pistol in bear country for the same reason you mentioned; I am much...

    Firearms onboard

Up here I carry a 300 Win Mag for bear and a Glock .45 because I am often well away from any police protection and believe in self reliance (not much fear here you never know). Be upfront with the Coasties and let them know what you have and where its at and you wont have any problem as long as...

    Re-Power

I repoweed to a single Suzuki 90hp 4 stroke last fall and love it. I previously had a 112 Johnson 2 stroke that was good but vibrated at low speed, was noisy, and didnt like the cold. This is the second boat I have had with a Suzuki and have been very pleased with both. A single meets my...

    Ho! Ho! Ho!

I got a MAGMA Grill and waterproof duffel for the Boat among other things. Mr Fisherman: I have the entire Jack Aubry series as well as a companion volume that explains some of the terms and equipment...very, very addictive series of books. Best of all, all my kids were in town at the same...

RedFox: I have only gotten as far as a lookiloo and a cringe about cutting into the area, your project notes and pics if you have them would be extremely welcome!!

Captain's Choice, did you ever get the gaskets?

    C-Dory floatation

Flotation is of limited value up here for life saving unless you can get out of the water (water temp is cold enough to kill you in about 10 min) so I think geographical considerations might be an important part of this discussion. I am seriously looking at a similar project to REDFOX except use...

    Pot Pullers

A davit and puller are on my radar screen for this coming season. I am looking for a davit to pull pots as well as heft the 5hp Evinrude over the side into the Zodiac (I am not getting any younger either and almost dropped it this year). Both electric and gas have disadvantages (I miss my...

Favorite Salmon spoon, technique , etc...

For spring Kings we troll with either a cut plug herring or a double hooked spiral wrapped herring and a 6 to 8 oz banana weight; usually with a flasher. For Coho, we usually use a green and white hootchie with a herring or the same combo as for the Spring Kings but with a larger flasher and a...

    Smoking on a C-Dory

My wife and I both enjoy a good cigar (been known to have a few Cubans on board now and then ..thanks Canada) and we have friends that smoke that occasionally light up on board. I would not want it in the cabin but I have not found it overly offensive or intolerable for anyone. Cigarettes are...
