A Week on the St. John's

Patrick, We would definitely be interested. As far as the time of year, the cooler the better. Our time is pretty flexible as long as we know far enough in advance to make plans for our business. We've never been on the Cumberland but it is at the top of our list to do. Harper

A Week on the St. John's

Sorry to be so late in responding to some of the posts above. We had a great week at Welaka. On the boat much of each day but one. Placid C did very well. I was surprised and pleased with the little fuel it used even though much of the travel was at 15 to 18 mph. Next spring we plan to spend at...

    Bedding

Where can I order a Travasak for a V Berth? Is it wide enough (at the head) to allow both sleepers to take advantage of the full length of the V Berth? If so it sounds perfect. Thanks in advance. Harper

    Captain Jim update...

While I have certainly enjoyed the "Captain Jim" strip every week, I understand the necessity of doing something that pays once in a while. From the content of the comic strip it is obvious that you weren't paying him Jim. :D I'll look forward to seeing the strip's occassional return. Tell Dan...

A Week on the St. John's

We were in the saddle 12 hours yesterday from Western NC to Welaka, FL. We are staying at the Welaka Lodge and Resort in a river side cottage. I learned of this place from fellow C-Brat, Smittypaddler, who spends several weeks here in the early spring each recent year. We were here a week last...

SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

We spent all day Friday on Placid C on nearby Lake James. Cruised the shoreline looking at new home construction then tucked back into a cove and anchored for lunch and a nap. Read in the cockpit throughout the afternoon and late in the day spent the last hour on the cruise back to the boat...

    Head Gear (as in hats)

I've had the same Tilley (T-3) dark green canvas hat for many years and have worn it everywhere. It is faded but otherwise as good as new. Alternate favorite is a 30 year old Stetson fur felt hat with the stains and patina that make it better than new. Baseball type hats fill the gaps. Harper

    5000 BTU Window AC

Lowes has a 5,000 btu AC that will fit the window but I don't know about the start-up requirements. The brand is Frigidaire. Harper

    Overuse of Plastic in Camperback?

Dr. Bob, this is somewhat off topic but perhaps indirectly related. I have noticed that you have very small side windows in the camperback on Thataway. Observing how you think, I am confident that there is a logical reason for this. My Placid C came with a King bimini with zippers for the side...

I replaced my Wallas stove with an Origo

The original owner of Placid C ordered it without a stove. I considered both propane and butane canister type stoves but was concerned about the safety issue. We have used alcohol stoves in the past and understand that they are slow and put out a lot of moisture. After searching the archives...
