LED spot light on bow rail

Update on the project. Drilling the rail was not a problem, but drilling up from the v-berth through the deck plate was not so easy. I ended up removing the railing to drill the bottom plate. Ran the wiring & mounted the light. This gave me a chance to re-bed the deck for the railing. The wires...

LED spot light on bow rail

Thanks all for the input. I have drilled the rail next to the light. It went pretty easy. Ran a wire to the aft down tube to be sure it's clear. Now I'm drilling up from inside the boat. Not so easy. Slow going. After I get the wire ran, I plan to unbolt the base with the hole in It so I can...

LED spot light on bow rail

I would like to mount a LED spot light on the bow rail & run the wiring through the railing. Any tips on making the transition from the rail into the v-birth area ? I'm concerned about sealing the deck under the rail plate.

    Towing a hard shell dinghy

Has anyone tried towing a small Boston Whaler or a Livingston behind a 22'. I think the Whaler would tow just fine, not sure about a Livingston. Any thoughts? I'm not to concerned about top speed, but fuel economy is a concern. Thanks

takes a licking and keeps on cruising

Lloyd. Same thing happened to me. I was well past 100 yards away & a sheriff boat came charging up, lights flashing. They yelled & threatened & made a big fuss. I guess an old guy in a 15' sailboat was a threat to national security. Or, it was just another slow day on the water.

    Time for a new chartplotter

Thank you all for the great input. I should note I have a Furuno radar (thank you Peter). Like the great single vs twins controversies, I'm on the side of standalone components vs bundled electronics. If there is a failure of one component, hopefully the other aids to navigation will get you...

    Time for a new chartplotter

I need to upgrade my GPS. The Garmin 174c has served me well for the last 10-12 years. But it is obsolete, Garmin has stopped supporting it. I'm considering a Garmin 547xs. Anyone have experience with this unit ? Comments welcome, good or bad. Thanks

Dave, thanks for the photos. You did a good job on that hydrofoil. Im going to use marine grade alloy, 6061 or something similar. Solar shower and mini hammock for berth

For a boat shower, go to ACE hardware & get a two gallon pump up garden sprayer. Heat water on the stove, & you're good to go. I also put a bend in the sprayer wand to to make it more convenient.

Fitting the Standard Garhauer Davit for lifting a dinghy

We installed a Gauhauer several years ago & have been very happy with the workmanship & performance. We custom ordered a taller support and a longer horizontal arm, to reach over the center of the cabin top. It is a little clumsy rigging & lifting the dingy, but it saves the back. The critical...
