    New Wallas Nordic Dt Stove/Heater

Does anyone have any experience with these? I was wondering if there are significant improvements over the previous Wallas combo stove/heater units from Scan that some folks have had issues with over the years? I was looking to install a heater only since we often cook on a Coleman propane...

To paint or not to paint, that is the question ... in PNW

We left our boat in the water for 2 months in the San Juans for the first couple of seasons. After about 3 weeks we had a pretty good growth started on the bottom. After 2 months we had heavy growth including barnacles. Since this was going to be our normal pattern, we had the bottom...

Radar arch high enough for dingy

We have an aft mounted arch similar to the photos in this thread from Jazzmaniac. It was made in Seattle area by a company that EQ Harbor Services uses. You could call Kathy at EQ and I am sure she would supply the name and number for the company that builds these for them. I have bolt on rod...

Cleaning Hull 1st time after bottom paint

We had the CD 22 painted with Petit Vivid at Bitterend Boatworks in Bellingham in May. Pulled it out last week after several months in the water. I used a soft boat brush on most of it to remove the soft green slime that wasn't removed from running the boat for several hours on the last trip...

C-Brats: Have you ever owned a VW bus/camper?

'66 Bug... in 1977. Was working at Paradise Mt Rainier at the time for the NPS. I could walk to work but it was my driver for trips to Puyallup for groceries and to Seattle for city trips. Didn't have it for very long as it wasn't big enough to carry many belongings as I moved from park to...

Fourth of July in the San Juans

Deer Harbor Orcas Island has a great fireworks display on July 3 and another on July 4 at the town of Eastsound Orcas Island. Room to anchor out at both locations. Deer Harbor Marina has a dinghy dock. The town of Eastsound has a pier and dinghy dock. Eastsound also puts on a great parade...

    Blue Angel jet Crash

Thanks for this post Bob. I watched the Thunderbirds fly for the Air Force Academy graduation from the house today. I had several good views of the group as they made some of their turns out in front of us. Exceptional individuals and highly skilled. Hard to believe they can fly that close...

    Cabin vibrations...

We have the older style C Dory with the "Wooden" or decra guard door. We had a lot of noise underway and traced it to loose screws on the door hinges which allowed the door to rattle and vibrate creating quite a racket. A drop of reversible loctite and tightening the screws made a world of...

    Debris Flow Video, Utah

Absolutely agree! Just for clarification, I didn't shoot these but rather found them online and was surprised that I had been to a few of the locations filmed. Can't beat Powell in good weather....but a place to be very cautious if it is storming, high winds....or if significant rain...

    Debris Flow Video, Utah

Many of us boat on Lake Powell and visit Iceberg Canyon, which is one of my favorites. This video illustrates the flood hazard in that canyon when the weather systems are right. If you search Lake Powell Flash Floods in You Tube you will find a number of videos that alert us to the hazards...

Water Tank Moved to Bow in CD 22

Has anyone done the work to place a water tank in the bow of a CD 22? It would involve cutting out the deck under the bow cushions, removing the foam, sizing and placing a new tank, installing a new fill port and running lines aft to the sink. Advantage is moving weight forward and freeing up...

    Best idea under $20

Just purchased several of these canvas zippered bags from Amazon for about $10. A good size at 22", reasonable quality and a great price. They may not last forever but easily replaceable after a few years for the money. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00V6T ... ge_o01_s00

    How safe are anchor swivels

I have a Rocna and it spins on retrieval with the Lewmar V 700. I think any anchor with a large blade or "wings" is likely to spin on a fast retrieve. The V700 is one speed and it is pretty quick. I try and stop periodically on the way up to let things unwind if need be. And stop again to do...

    Anchor rode marking

We use paint on the chain to mark when the anchor is approaching water surface so we know it is close to coming into the roller. Water proof permanent marker of different colors has worked to mark the 3 strand rode so we know how much we have out. We use a combination of colors and hash marks...
