    Scary fishing story

Re: "I just know that when they offer themselves up to my hook, they do so with the knowledge that they will be freed from terrestial bonds and able to pursue a higher spiritual existence." I was around some folks in the late 60's and early 70's who had near death experiences like that from...

INSURANCE, GAS PRICES, A REASON TO BE GRATEFUL

Slowing down seems to greatly increase mpg, but how does it affect our new four stroke (yamaha 90 in our case) engines? I seem to remember several folks, including a dealer, saying that these engines like it better when their revs are kept high. I'm all for saving fuel, and I'll try to cruise...

    Price Gouging? a question

It is strange that no one complains about hospitals charging $6 for an asprin or charging $80 for a LITER of salt water to drip into a patient's veins, even though they MIGHT not need it. Has any one here ever looked at their hospital bill with the help of someone who can understand the real...

    When men were men

Aye, and I remember stories by my grandfather of his days as a young man having to climb icy rigging and haveing the flesh cut off his freezing hands as he would have to furl or un-furl frozen canvas sails, as they rounded Cape horn. He said those were the days when ships were made of wood and...

    OT- Largest Trailerable Tug

Actually I forgot the comma. It should have been written "38', wide load". I know a guy in Baton Rouge who drives a Tug pushing 106 ' (feet) wide barge strings. They are 800' or 900' long. He has some incredible boat driving stories to tell.

    OT- Largest Trailerable Tug

Come on now Pat, don't you wish you could have that 25' C-Ranger hooked up to your rig? Be honest now!! Having pulled a 38' wide load goose neck trailer with my six speed manual dually, I can surely say that one must obtain several extra levels of enlightenment in order to navigate through...

    OT- Largest Trailerable Tug

A wide load permit can be obtained for pulling a wide load, but it does get a little hairy driving through rush hour freeway traffic at times. My truck has mirrors that extend outward for just such loads. The trick is to time your transit through the bad spots during slack traffic.

    OT- Largest Trailerable Tug

Thanks for the Aluma Tug info. I've found their web site and will give them a call in the morning. It's very cool that they will customize aboat to personal specs, but i fear what happens when rock meets aluminum. This is exactly what i was looking for Tom thanks again. Joe - That is a...

    OT- Largest Trailerable Tug

Please forgive me for posing such an off topic question, but i don't know of a more knowledgable and group to ask this of, not to mention that this is the only boating group i belong to. What is the biggest "tug" type boat that can be hauled around by a one ton dually? I know the 26' Nordic...

    CD 25 weight?

We've pulled our 22' C-Dory from Seattle to New Orleans and back with our 2002 Dodge Dually six speed manual tranny. We were on the overload springs coming back to Seattle because the truck was loaded with household gear. The truck has the power and the gears, but I also appreciate the...

New Orleans and Katrina - Cause and Effect

Yep, your right, we must not risk offending anyone by saying certain words, or expressing ourselves on certain subjects. In fact, it's a crime for people of one color to utter certain words, but it's ok for people of another color to use the same words in every day conversation. We need to sit...

    Yamaha, 4 stroke motors

On the way back to Louisiana from Seattle, after we picked up our c-22, we got a solid 14 - 15 mpg the whole way. The only time I had to down shift to 5th gear was climbing a pass east bound between Washington state and Idaho. The truck only had our gear (equivalent in weight of one person), and...

New Orleans and Katrina - Cause and Effect

Does any one here know how much of our tax money has been spent, during the last 45 years on the "war on poverty" that was started in the 60's? Has anyone noticed that the problem is worse now than 40 years ago? Or even ten years ago? Has any one noticed that the poor today are much worse off...

    Igloo Marine Coolers

I have the Coleman (I think the 162 qt.) large cooler that I bought for the cockpit of the CD. We've been using it as our sole refererator for the last 10 days. It's on the floor in the kitchen with 2 or 3 frozen 1 gal. jugs of water. They only last 2 1/2 maybe 3 days before becoming completely...

New Orleans and Katrina - Cause and Effect

Since this is the Cause and Effect thread I will post this pertinent explanation of the causes and effects of this tradegy. And by the way I do know what I'm talking about; I was born and raised here, and not only went through the storm, but listened to the radio almost 24 hours a day during and...

    KATRINA CAT V: Prayers Please

Dave My wife is on her second day of a five day hospital shift she agreed to work in Slidell. Things are pretty bad around Slidell. I hope they and the boat got out before the storm hit. If they were smart enough to buy a C-Dory, they probably left. Law

New Orleans and Katrina - Cause and Effect

Thank you Pat for showing us efficiently and effectively our government is handling catastrophic event planning for us. It is comforting to know that with all the mandates, programs, assesments, overflights, meetings, conferences, surveys, seminars, appropriations, press conferences, and...

New Orleans and Katrina - Cause and Effect

I speak as one who lives here and has seen this thing unfold, This tragedy is the result of lack of leadership on the local, state and federal levels. The mayor pleaded with those people to leave, they did not because they knew he would open the Super Dome, and they would get free lodging and...
