Try using a "Sea Anchor". I bought mine at Cabelas for less than $100. It also works great in controling drift in windy conditions. If all else fails, the cheapest way out is to tie a rope onto a 5 gallon bucket and throw it overboard. It will suprise you how much it will slow you down.
