Water leaking into cabin, 22 ft. crusier

On my 2001 22' C-Dory there is a plastic removable plug directly under the door. I had a problems with a very small leak from the plastic fitting that the plug screws into. I removed the fitting, cleaned it, caulked it and remounted it. I also put some teflon tape on the plug itself. I...

    tire advice needed

I have used the Carlisle tires for a number of years on my boat trailers with pretty good results. I contacted them and received the following response from them this morning regarding their trailer tires: "The USA trails are made here in TN. The rest of the trailer tires are either made in...

    Marinas, 1000 Islands, New York

I have stayed at Millens Bay Marina off and on since the early 90s. My wife and I were there August 2009. They have cottages and stationary house boats for rent. Docks are new and they have a gas pump. They also have a good ramp. The marina is approx. a 15 minute drive (by Car) to Clayton...

    Vendor did me good...

I live in FL where we have to put up with the Love Bugs twice a year. In order to get rid of them from the front of my vehicles, I wet the front grill, hood and windshield down, then go over it with a wet Dryer Fabric Softener Sheet, then rinse thoroughly. No hard scrubbing required, the...

Permanent Boatlifts on pilings, Northern climate???

I vacation up in the 1000 Islands area a couple of miles from Lake Ontario. The homeowners in the small coves sometimes leave their docks in for the winter, but the ones on the river pull them for the winter. Seems a lot of them use stone/wood cribs for the foundation of their docks, the cribs...

    Outboard freeze protection?

When we lived in NJ a few years back, we had friends that had their lower unit crack over the winter. They had water in the lower unit which froze. That's why it is important to drain and refill the unit during the fall winterization. For those in milder climates that lay up their boats...

    @#!!$ LED Trailer Lights

I installed a set of Pipe Lights about a year ago and they have worked well so far. I made the connections in the top 12" of the pipes to keep them out of the salt water. I ran all new wires including separate grounds all the way to the front of the trailer and used a cargo trailer junction...

Repairing small drill holes in hull

After I purchased my boat I removed all the hardware to drill out the coring and then epoxied. I used small thin finishing nails that I bent at 90 degrees to drill out the coring. The sharp point at the end of the nail does a nice job of removing the coring.

    best way to cut fiberglass.

Some general tips: If at all possible, leave a radius in the corners rather than square corners. Square corners have a tendency over time to develop stress cracks in the gelcoat. When I use a hole saw on fiberglass, I start off with the drill in reverse and let it dig down about a 1/16th to a...

a good concept for boat trailers

If you could get the frame low enough you wouldn't need to back the trailer in as far as usual, which might keep the bearings out of the salt water. Over time, some of the higher initial price would be offset by the reduction in maintenance.

    Looking for 22 project inspiration

I also wanted access under the seat but wanted the door to match the others. I disassembled the seat, took out the entire panel, drew lines 1 1/2 - 2" in from the edges, then cut it with a thin bladed circular saw. Added hinges and a knob, primed and painted the raw edges. Turned out very...

    Post Card From Iraq

Take a look at the blog for Simplicity, they just completed a great loop starting/ending in FL. Take a look at the start or where they entered the ICW (even though they were heading north) and you will get a better idea of how much you can cover in a month. http://voyageofsimplicity.blogspot.com/
