    Hot Buss terminals??

You shouldn't solder because a hard spot is created between the solder and the flexible portion of the wire. If the wires flex at all, then the wire will break at that point. So, soldering on items prone to vibration or flexing wires is not a good idea. Having said that, I just got done...

    CD-22 Bildge Pump Discharge is 1 1/8"

Yeah, better pumps and hoses is what started this project. The small pumps aren't holding up, so I decided to go with a Jabsco "Water Puppy". It has a 1" outlet. Not sure if this was the best choice since this type of pump can't run dry. The switch is a "Water Witch". It's gph is much lower...

    CD-22 Bildge Pump Discharge is 1 1/8"

I only mention this because I have never heard of 1 1/8" hose, and I spent a lot, a lot, of energy trying to get 1" sanitation style hose on the fitting. Duh. Mike

    Hot Buss terminals??

Ancor makes a nice little lug press that you hit with a hammer in order to crimp the lugs. Works from 6 on down to something large... I went with the Blue Seas fuse box busses. The main buss can handle up to 120 amps, I think. Each circuit coming off is fused. I have two in the lazarette...

    Batteries - Again / Still

If you add in the cost of the remote display, which comes with the xc3012, the two chargers are nearly the same price. The remote display is nice and saves you the trouble of wiring meters. I would say it's easier to wire the control display for the xc3012 than it would be to wire meters. I...

    Batteries - Again / Still

If you go for the xc3012, its display can be remoted and will give you a digital volt meter readout of each bank. You can also add an amp meter device that I guess will tell you how many amp-hours you've taken out. Not too sure about this add-on. You should check the Xantrex website for more...

    Batteries - Again / Still

I think he is asking about "This shows the 10 ga wire connected from the battery charger outlet connector to the batteries (2 ea. positive and 1 ea. negative.)" Are there two ten gauge wires per bank from the charger to the batteries? Or just one ten gauge to each bank? On my Xantrex, which is...

    Night Cruising

The depth finder can be a very useful tool if you have paper charts to help orient you. Find the shipping channel, if it's deeper than the surrounding water, follow it until you find a marker, check the charts, make sure you are in the channel you think you are in (that's an easy mistake to...

    Help with shore power plug

We just picked up a little ceramic house with a light weight, UL rated light. The plug contains a 5 amp fuse to protect the light weight wire. So, you are partially correct. Or perhaps lots of homes in America have unsafe wiring. Mike

    Help with shore power plug

Blue Sea http://bluesea.com/ makes some nice panels. I peruse their website and then look up the part numbers on northeastmarineelectronics.com and order from them. Most of this stuff, including chargers, can be had for a substantial discount if you order online. If you are doing a CD-22...

    Help with shore power plug

Oh! Well, of course. That's perfectly fine since you either have a 15 or 20 amp breaker. I do that all the time. Mike

    Help with shore power plug

30 amps are unnecessary. However, that is what the outlets supply. A 50' 30 amp cord can be nicely rolled up and stored in a small gym bag. It doesn't get tangled up in other stuff that way. A 30 amp 50' cord costs, what, $70 or so? A 12 gauge cord may not be dangerous. I'd have to look it...

    Another floor question

So, if I understand you correctly, they can not be installed in the boat in any useful manner? What did the previous owner do with them? Are you sure one can't be rotated and have it fit? I only just removed mine at the end of the season, but I didn't pay much attention to them. Mike

    Help with shore power plug

I'd be surprised to find an 18 gauge power cord with a 15 amp plug on the end that was commercially made and carrying an UL sticker. The low voltage cable from my laptop power supply probably is. But, the cord from the power supply to the wall appears to be 16. I would image the low voltage...

    Help with shore power plug

Right. If the cord is damaged - say gets caught between the rubrail and a piling, you will have a dangerous situation. The closer you move the CFGI to the 30 amp outlet, the safer you are. Mike

    window a/c

Mounting the AC in the front window has the advantage of not blowing hot air over cockpit. Also, the noise is up front. The obvious disadvantage is that you can not run with the unit in place. Unless you really want to run with the unit in place, I suggest you try using it in the front...

    Help with shore power plug

If the cord is plugged into a 30 amp outlet and something damages the cord and causes a short, how are you going to prevent more than 15 amps from flowing? In any case, for most of us on CD-22s, the issue isn't (un)intentional overloading. It is short circuits and getting the breaker to trip...

Which is better: 22' cruiser or 25' cruiser?

If money does not matter, then I'd probably prefer the 25'. But, the 22 takes a smaller trailer, smaller truck, less fuel and the initial cost is less. Also, we were not sure how much use we would get out of the boat with our daughter growing up. Would we end up with $70,000 sitting in the...

    EQ Marine and C-Dory

Visions of grandeur - C-Dory dealerships all over. Change the boat so more can be made, faster, ignore some of the previous detailing and get more made, quicker. Or so it appears. Not my factory. Hopefully, the resale value of the older boats will hold up and hopefully 2001 will be in that...

    Help with shore power plug

You have to be careful with 30 amp inlet and shore cords. You need full 10 gauge from the dock (shore cords are 10 gauge) through the boat until you get to a properly installed dual pole 30 amp breaker in the boat. Anything less is dangerous if you are plugged into a 30 amp outlet. The photos...
