    small radar

SoBelle, I'm with you. A big honkin' radar system which I would rarely use is not for me. I was heading to Maine and seriously considered it but never made the purchase. The future always moves toward smaller and lighter when it comes to electronics so if we wait/live long enough our wish...

    Moyen Poodle

We got our moyen poodle, Chilli dog, after meeting Angel. I had never been a dog person but I love this dog. He is friendly, smart, loves the boat and the water -- a great companion. Besides the C-Dory he also comes with me on a sit-on-top kayak, sits on the front or the back. From my point...

    Trailer rant!

I'm with you! Just wait. A year ago the wheel of my custom 2012 trailer passed me going down a hill. All five lugs had sheered off. It bounced about 10' in the air, demolished a mailbox, and almost crossed the median into oncoming traffic. Before that the trailer had a shock break off, and a...

Thanks, Mike, that's a nice job, a real clean look. I'm soaking up the ideas like a sponge. :thup

    Cabin upgrades

Now the wheels are turning! If the wires were hidden with wood strips, and the front of the map shelf had a new wood veneer, and there were pieces of carpet on the front shelves framed in the same wood, and the wooden cabinets were cleaned, then all four of the projects would have a connection...

    Cabin upgrades

With tow vehicle sold and winter approaching I'm making a project list. Most involve cabin improvements. Number one on my list is covering "exposed" wiring. Sitting at the helm I am distracted by the huge zip-tied wire grouping to my right. Seems there should be a good looking way of covering...

    Land trailer

Must say I thought boater homing was going to be great but it rarely worked for me. Traveling from Virginia to Florida in the winter I would almost never find the temperature to be satisfactory. With 40 degree temps it would be almost impossible to warm up the boat with the Wallas stove, esp...

Video--Hunkydory in the Yukon & Alaska

Jay that was awesome! It's funny you mention your inexperience. The whole time I'm watching the videos I'm thinking, "This couple really knows what they're doing." I love adventure and that was impressive! Thanks for sharing, again. :thup :thup :thup

    Cabin sides improvement

Reading about Hy-Tec SC#1000 has me reconsidering the v-berth project. http://www.hytechsales.com/prodsc.html "Unlike heavy mats which only add mass and lower the intensity of sound doing nothing for vibration, SC#1000 removes noise and unwanted vibrations..." It sounds good and I like the fact...

    Cabin sides improvement

redbaronace, Although my instructions from West Marine were to put it on with a roller and "tip it" with a dry brush to smooth things out, I used a brush to apply and didn't see any reason for "tipping". It came out smooth and shiny. Really brightened up the cabin.

    Cabin sides improvement

Jim's suggestion of bright white Interlux Brightside paint was a good one. Although a time-consuming job I'm really happy with the result. I think it looks good and it's easy to clean. It did require sanding, then cleaning, applying a coat of primer and two coats of the Interlux Brightside...

    "My Girl" for sale

Sad but true, "My Girl" is for sale. But it's just the end of a chapter. I'm not closing the book. I have loved C-Dorys and the C-Brats from the start. We have taken many trips and loved "My Girl". In fact, the long range plan is to someday have another C-Dory or boat from the C-Dory...

    Chevy "Duramax" Van for towing

Darn it, the exhaust brake is one of the best and safest features of the vehicle I'm now driving. I will verify that that will be missing on the van.

    Chevy "Duramax" Van for towing

Contrarian ideas are welcome. They make me think. The generator with AC and heater makes sense for year round comfort on the boat. But when I stopped this year on a trip to the Keys from VA, it was COLD outside and I couldn't get warmed up in the C-Dory. It's also not that convenient or...

    Chevy "Duramax" Van for towing

What do you think of a new Chevy 3500/one ton cargo van with the detuned Duramax diesel for towing a 25 Cruiser? I'm spoiled with a GMC 2500 pickup with the Duramax diesel and Allison transmission. Absolutely love the towing capacity. But the truck bed is underused. Even with a cap its often...
