    puget sound marina + camping

Several years ago, when I had my Hewescraft, I took some family & friends for a vacation on Orcas. It was a private campground but had its own dock and launch ramp. That might be another option. Sorry, I disremember the name of the campground but IIRC it was on the north side of Orcas, more or...

    Canvas Question

George, the factory used to deliver boats with front window covers but told owners not to use them for trailering as they would scratch the windows. We re-made the fabric into interior front window curtains. Warren

Helm Bulkhead Cutaway on the 25

That is what I thought and the photo above is not a 16 but I did not see photos in the Anna Leigh album of the job, just the 16 album. Anyway, it is something I want to do on the 22 eventually, also. Warren

Sliding curtain snaps for Tom Cat berth

The Admiral has tasked me with finding more of the sliding snaps that hold up the curtain across the Tom Cat berth. We have more snaps in the Sunbrella than we have snaps in the track. Any suggestions on where they might be found and what they are called? Thanks, Warren

    Canadian gas

Wondering if our northern neighbors have avoided the Ethanol scam -- i.e, do I need to use Sta-Bil with Canadian gas? Thanks, Warren

    Kicker question

Note just for clarity that the discussion here is about older motors, with actual carburetors. Newer motors all have fuel injection and AFAIK running dry is never necessary with FI. Warren

iPhone / iPad App with ActiveCaptain

Jay, you should talk to Jeffrey Siegel at Active Captain because, don't forget, he is advertising Active Captain compatibility with eSeaChart on the iPhone/iPad and everyone knows that Steve Jobs hates Flash so any iPhone or iPad app will by definition be Flash-free. jeff@activecaptain.com is...

iPhone / iPad App with ActiveCaptain

Jay, where did you find the above? I went back to the ActiveCaptain website and to the eSeaChart website and could not find it. The reviews on the Apple iPhone app store made no mention of such a limitation but did mention problems in getting charts to quilt seamlessly. Nothing about needing...

iPhone / iPad App with ActiveCaptain

Certainly a better deal than the previously-announced Active Captain iPhone product, from Navimatics. That one costs $24.99 for just the West Coast, as opposed to $7.99 for eSeaChart and all NOAA charts. It has received mixed reviews on the app store, but I already have the Navionics app, which...

    12v question for the gurus

The 2 Raymarine E-80s on my Tom Cat have been increasingly been refusing to play nice with each other (not recognizing the master/slave relationship, spontaneously rebooting, etc.) The guy who sold them to me (very knowledgeable vendor) told me there were two possibilities that I should...

    Lewmar V700 windlass installation

You might check to make sure there is no water intrusion into the motor of the windlass. I sent Tom Herrick a busted windlass that exhibited the same symptoms, that I knew suffered from water damage, and he got it running after going through the motor. Warren
