To Sea Tow or not to Sea Tow

Around our part of the Chesapeake Bay we have a volunteer sea tow service called Smith Point Sea Rescue. They run just like any rescue service here and are dispatched by the county sheriff dispatcher. They run three boats and also have a couple of skiffs. I've been towed in twice in the past...

Red lights other than Nav lights...?

I don't think distributed lighting like that would be a problem as long as it can't be confused or obscures the nav lights. However, check to see that any LED lights you install do not cause interference to your VHF radio reception. I just did a radio inspection on a commercial vessel and the...

New security and info for your boat...... via your phone

If you just want data on your boat and not security, take a look at Floathub (www.floathub.com). $149 one time fee if you have wifi at the dock. It provides battery voltage, charging voltage, pump cycles, temp., pressure, position, speed, and course data. If you want more data history, more...

    Homemade bimini

$150 from Amazon. We need to move it back and make a connector piece to make it easier to get in and out when it is deployed. The fabric isn't the greatest, but will last a while and then we have a pattern to make a new top out of Sunbrella. http://www.c-brats.com/modules.php?set_ ... _photo.php

SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

Well, not just today, but over the last week, painted the bottom, installed new bimini (from Amazon for $150), rebedded two cleats, fixed a leak in the bilge pump area, oil change, and fuel filter change. Thought we had a leak on the port side midships cleat. Pulled it off...it was only bedded...

    Great Docking Skills

I was on MV Coho a couple of years ago when we were back there visiting relatives and I was so impressed with the warping in to the berth like that. It's one thing to do it with a little boat and just really amazing to watch when it is a BIG boat!

    Great Docking Skills

I could probably dock a lot better if I had twins and dual thrusters and no wind too!! :D It's so much more entertaining to friends and onlookers though to ping pong ball off the pilings. I don't want to disappoint them!

    Securing anchor to anchor roller

I just tie it to one of the legs of the bow pulpit with a short piece of line. That keeps the cleat free.

    Second Bilge Pump Install

I put a pump in that area and then used the thru hull for the live well for the discharge, since I don't need the live well.

    No More Paper Charts

The problem I have is that I am used to ,and like, the RNC visuals. ENCs look different on different plotters depending on how it is set up. So, although my plotter uses ENC data, my tablet running OpenCpn is displaying the RNC usually, although I will switch back and forth depending on what I...

SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

Yesterday turned the boat into a work platform and helped a friend install a platform for an osprey nest. Worked great! However, a while back, I had a leak from the forward hatch. The water was discolored so knew it probably wasn't good. So about a week ago I pulled the hatch off to rebed...

    Antenna tuning

It's the spring mount that may trip you up, as that adds to the length. I'd get a plain whip for the frequency range of interest for the base you have, or at least a plain whip that you can cut down to the correct size.
