All I want for Christmas is a new engine...

The boat was normally in the water at our dock and would go out often for short runs, so it wasn't flushed after every use, but usually at least once a week. However, the boat was a boat that was donated to a museum and had been sitting in a slip for at least four years before they got it, so I...

All I want for Christmas is a new engine...

So a few months ago my wife and I were out in our C-22 with a Honda BF90D. Noticed something different about the feel but just thought I had some growth on the bottom. On the way home, it started to run rough and I started to worry about getting home. After we got home, I pulled the cowl and...

    Posts since last visit issue

Thanks, and I checked that. It was all working normally this morning, and I didn't change anything when it started happening or when it went back to normal, but just now when I was typing this reply, when I hit submit, it asked me to log in again and I lost the reply. This is just bizarre, but...

    Posts since last visit issue

Thanks, Harvey. I've been using the same computer and operating system, but this evening it is working normally! Oh well, as long as I know the site is normal, I can troubleshoot locally if it starts happening again. Gerhard

Thanks. I'll do some digging on my end then and try to figure out what is going on!

    Posts since last visit issue

Since I have been part of this forum, I usually log on and then click the "View posts since last visit" to see what is new. For the last several days, I log on, click "View posts since last visit" and it returns me to another log in screen. When I log in again, it says no new posts, obviously...

URGENT EMERGENCY DSC CALL BUTTON USE

The MMSI is administered by the government through the FCC. The option to get one through BoatUS is a way to get one for DOMESTIC use without having to go through the expense of getting a FCC Station license for the vessel. The MMSI you get through BoatUS is not stored in the international...

URGENT EMERGENCY DSC CALL BUTTON USE

I do the required FCC Radiotelephone Safety Inspections on commercial vessels and I am constantly amazed at how often I run into people that have not programmed their DSC radio with their MMSI. It's easy and it really helps with an emergency response. The other thing to do, if your radio does...

Moving up from a CD22 but where and when does it stop?

Unless I've missed it, I think the most obvious answer is don't sell the 22, just buy another, bigger boat! That way, you have the nice big boat with all the accommodations and the little boat to "play." You might need a smaller boat too, just to really stay in touch with the water! Don't...

    Venting heat

Jay, I love that idea! I usually do keep the center window open just like you suggest, but need a way to get some air flow. The computer fan using the existing hole is something I am going to try!

    2022 Chesapeake Bay Gathering (?)

Summers are pretty busy for us, but sure sounds like a fun idea to consider.

    high wind: anchoring aches

You might also try a bridle on the bow so the anchor is attached to cleats on both sides of the bow.

Marine Electronic Visual Distress Signal Auth.by Canada

I just put in new batteries at the start of each season. A couple of C or D batteries are pretty cheap. You can use the ones you pull out in something non-critical so you're not really wasting anything.

    Removing questionable fuel

I did what Bob describes when I got my C-Dory and wanted to remove the old fuel. My filter doesn't have a spare port, so I pulled the filter input line and attached the pump there.

    Tideminders

We have been using Tide Minders for our sailboat for years with no issues. We get a lot of wakes where we are tied up, and the lines just slide up and down. They are great.

Online marine retailers... separating risky from reputable?

I'll second thegpsstore.com. I've had good luck with them on multiple purchases and their prices are good.

SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

Got towed home! Went on a nice trip across the Potomac to have lunch with a friend. Beautiful day, totally smooth water on the way over. 10 kts of wind and choppy on the way home and engine just dies. No sputtering or coughing, just like I switched it off. Checked all I could and then...

When a Spade Is Not A Spade

I read that article as well. I wasn't too upset as we still use a CQR on our sailboat. However, I agree that a spade is not necessarily a spade and to lump them all in together was inappropriate and really glossing over a deep subject. I've been becoming unhappy with the BoatUS magazine. I...

    Leaking RIB

I am going through this exact same situation with our RIB (which is old enough not to really owe us anything). One chamber has a relatively fast leak. I haven't gotten around to looking for it in detail yet, but it's on the list, so following this with interest!
