    Drain Plug

That sounds like a reasonable setup. How did you fasten the fixture to the boat? (It comes with wood screws but those wouldn't provide much confidence...)

    Drain Plug

Thanks! This is very helpful! The hole is a notional 1” (ID varies due as it’s not perfectly smooth). I don’t have a staging tool but perhaps a bronze tube flanged at on end can bet set in a bed of epoxy painted around the ID?

    Drain Plug

We own a restored 1994 CD-22. It's been a fantastic boat for us and perfect for the Chesapeake and St Lawrence. We went out today and by the time we returned 3 hours later, there was the usual sump area filled with water -- not high enough to activate the bilge pumps, but high enough to run...

Jeep Gladiator as tow vehicle for C-Dory 22 Cruiser

After retiring from the Army I really wanted a Jeep Wrangler (as a newly minted 2LT I had one of the last 1/4 ton issued to me a few times before they were replaced by HMVVW). The Army Jeep was small, absolutely utilitarian ("heater?"), nimble, and a hoot to drive on trails. Not so great on...

It's astounding how little reduction in fuel consumption getting fast enough to be on plane offers...

Jeep Gladiator as tow vehicle for C-Dory 22 Cruiser

Hmmm, I'd be concerned with the tendency to jackknife with a smaller vehicle. We settled on a 21' long Silverado Extended Crew Cab (Diesel) and that's as small as I would go with a 22'. I think it's realistic to plan for 6k towed weight for a CD-22 as you will have fuel, equipment, generator...

Folding E Bikes for our trip

My apologies -- I fell into the East Coast myopia. Nevertheless, I suppose it also depends on how a cyclist defines a "hill." :-) E-bikes are now ubiquitous in the US but were popular in Canada a few years earlier. I learned this by accident one day riding on the Route Verte near Quebec City...

Folding E Bikes for our trip

If it's transportation that offers mobility to someone otherwise unable, it makes sense, certainly.

Folding E Bikes for our trip

I suppose I don't get the need for an E-Bike when the vast majority of roads and trails accessed from a C-Dory will be flat. I have a folder I used to use commuting (2 miles to the train station, ride Amtrak, 3 miles to the office) that weighs around 30 lbs. I ride on trails sometimes and see...

    Loading on Trailer

Ah, ok -- that makes sense! Our marina is on Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD on the Upper Chesapeake and is typical Army spartan. The tides range about 3' and the fixed dock is separated from the ramp by a wheel-swallowing trench off the edge of the ramp -- which precludes getting the port side...

Cushion / Padding Around V-Berth Entrance

Cushion / Padding Around V-Berth Entrance

After hitting my head one too many times I realized I needed a better, less painful way to enter & exit the V-Berth (which I do most often to mess with the anchor or tie off the anchor cleat). A few C-Dory interior images show a pad around the entryway. I assume those are custom fabrication...

Wouldn't a cheap pair of hip waders have been less work?

    Loading on Trailer

I will add ... We went from a 14' Starcraft aluminum fishing boat on bunks to a C-Dory 22. Our trailer has rollers (which I have grown fond of) and side bunk boards as guides. But it's taken me several dozen load/unload sequences to finally feel confident that I'll get it on reasonably...

    Loading on Trailer

I've become a fan of "driving it on." The float-on/off method often results in the trailer being too deep so that the rollers never catch and force the boat straight. Given the effect of even the slightest wind on these boats (especially when empty), it makes sense to drive the boat onto the...

    Isabel’s untimely end

Wow -- that's some trip in a 16'! Did you cruise the ICW or off shore up the east coast? We have a 22' C-Dory that we absolutely love -- bobs like a cork and can take far more than the captain.

What other boat is comparable to the dory 25-26?

Very true (and all those reasons made us look for one!) While our 22' bobs like a cork in rough water, I feel like I'm riding a 450 Dual Sport on the LIE -- sure, you can do it, but you'd better be at the top of your game. :-)

Now on the Oil Bath Bandwagon

Same. I just towed our 22' to the St Lawrence River and back from SE PA (about 410 miles each way) up and down route 81 (endless up and down across the successive ridges of PA). I checked every hub at each stop -- ambient temperature every time. I have a King Dual axle trailer with electric...
