Who was in Boston Harbor this past weekend in a C-25?

I was training on a commercial vessel and noticed a C-25 just off the Charlestown pier #4 this past weekend. Anyone here I know?

    TomCat steering hydraulic fluid spray

Seastar sent me my third system over this winter...at the end of last season my last brand new system went south again. This time they sent me a beefier model than what was installed twice before. They also sent me new rams - I reinstalled every part of the steering system except the lines...

    New SPOT sends text messages!

I too am a fan and recent consumer for the Spot Messenger. You can send OK, custom text, and of course SOS. You have to program the text in advance (unless you have the Delorme or other unit that will transmit from your smartphone) but I found it works very well and is great for sharing our...

    Waterline for a TC 255?

I too switched to a non-copper ablative paint this year (Pettit Ultima Eco). We'll see how it holds up.

    Waterline for a TC 255?

Hi Warren, I have about 12' of paint on the underside of the wing deck from the bracket leading to the bow. I used the discoloration on the wing deck as a gauge for how far I wanted to apply the paint. How about others? How far do you paint on the wing deck?

    Waterline for a TC 255?

Hi Peter, You should have antifouling paint on the wing deck. As you mention when at rest it's sitting in the water. I have paint on the wing deck from the stern to 1/2-2/3 the distance to the bow.

    installing radar

You'll be amazed at how small a return you will get on 30' wood or fiberglass cabin cruisers let alone 13' skiffs. (One of the reasons why it's important to have a good radar reflector). Nav buoy's show up much larger than cabin cruises for example. Did you have your radar range set to the...

    2006 Tom Cat 255 / 2000 Ford Excursion 7.3 L diesel $95,000

I have to admit I regret seeing this post. I hope things work out such that you can keep your 'hand in the game' on the water. For those considering a Tomcat, I would consider this perhaps the highest quality Tomcat available - brand new or otherwise - due to Bob's expertise. He is generally...

I asked the same of Furuno - answer was no. It will be grounded via the wiring to your panel.

Troubles with my new (to me) Tomcat

Welcome to C-Brats. You have a heck of a first vessel! I have the same vessel/same year. Perhaps you know all the following and are mechanically thorough but I'll suggest some things just in case. I suggest you and your regular boating companions take a safety course such as those offered...

    Stuck Window

This is just what I did when I first received Napoleon (with the standard feature of a stuck window :) I used a cloth over the edge of the screw driver to prevent scratches but you just need to move it a pinch. Then spray on a lube like WD-40 or Liquid Rollers and it will slide. Now I just...

Ha ha - that's a good one. Someone told me a doctor joke once that cracked me up. Question: What do they call the guy that finishes dead last in his class at medical school? Answer: "Doctor" Ouch...

    Used 1997 21ec questions

I don't have any experience on the water with the R21 but what would you consider heavy weather? The gunwales are very low on the R21 and I would be cautious in any kind of confused sea state. If I could own two boats it would be a Ranger and of course the Tomcat. I really like what they...

Can I make my own sling slots?

Great point! I was thinking in my terms of jack access points from the ground but of course with slings you can thread them through the holes cut out on the 2nd level.

Can I make my own sling slots?

The problem is the load bearing areas in the bunks. You would need direct load bearing support on both sides of the desired spot where you would consider cutting the bunks to create a spot for the sling.

    Pettit Bottom Paint

I ended up going with Ultima Eco ablative this year. I spoke to a Pettit rep in person and he suggested this as the best solution. I applied 2 coats (with last years Vivid below that). I'll report how long it takes before I have the sweater ;)
