    Gulf Islands Advice

A tall order. "Primitive" camps for large groups in the Gulf Islands with the degree of protection afforded by the harbor at Sucia are scarce. Conover Cove is likely going to be too crowded for your needs. And campers/site regulations or restrictions on campfires may quash other locations...

    Adhesive Removal - How to?

Rubbing alcohol works most of the time. In a worst case, get some of 3M's Windshield Adhesive Remover. About as toxic, fumewise, as gasoline. Wear thick nitrile gloves, do not breathe the vapor. Ace, NAPA, WalMart, other sources: https://www.upccodesearch.com/upc/051131036185

    10/15 - 10/29 - 2017 Snake/Columbia River C-Dory Cruise

I will add my 2 cents to the same cup Tyboo and hardee are filling. Late October can go either way ... and change back two days later ... from calm and warm to driven rain. Once you get well clear of Bonneville Dam, likely no high winds. That said, I would definitely go in late October...

    No house electronics--weird problem

Wow, Ben, this has turned out to be a difficult chase. I don't know if an ohmeter test will do the job. It might be worthwhile to steal thataway's trick of a length of heavy gauge wire as a bypass. Bob's trick is guaranteed to eliminate cable/connector corrosion without a doubt.

    No house electronics--weird problem

The first thing to check is your battery terminals. Make sure they make good contact with the major cables which supply power to your vvarious circuits. You will have to disassemble each one, clean the terminals and the lugs, and reattach. The voltmeter readings you report represent...

Nope, that batch is dead. Depending on the temperature, and how it was packaged, you can expect a couple years or so.

Getting to Powell River by the numbers

Mark, Living in Astoria, we naturally favor the Hood Canal/Port Angeles/Black Ball ferry route to Vancouver Island over the Sea-Tac-Oly-Tsawassen ferry / I-5 route. Aside from the beneficial effect on my blood pressure, oftimes the I-5 variant takes longer. Doubtless, starting from Seattle...

    Boat explodes, Ocean Isle NC

A good object lesson in the false wisdom of having nonswitched power from the battery (excluding the starter feed).

    Boat explodes, Ocean Isle NC

A buddy did this, got all the way to the ramp, almost ready to fire up, when his fishing companion convinced him to abort. On returning home, they did a thorough flush and hose job, some of it with soapy water, everything underdecks. After airing it out overnight, floorboards propped open, it...

    Suzuki fuel gauge dead

local boy, Good on ya for this: All electrical should be as easy to understand to a novice like me. It did educate me on resistance, ohm measurement, how to use a multi-meter to figure it all out though. Does my old teacher heart good to see this. A volt-ohm meter is a really versatile...

    2006 Yamaha 115 "Making Oil"

Sean, I knew of an engine making oil, later traced to a hole in the diaphragm in his fuel pump. His was older, and just a 50 horse, but I cannot recall the make. His ran rough, kept stalling. Fixed by replacing the fuel pump, I think.

    Barkley sound

blackfish, Opportunities abound in Barkley Sound, more so in some ways than in Clayoquot Sound. The latter is really a series of interconnected bays and back reaches, with a main waterway behind Vargas and Flores for ravel N and South. Barkley is really one large embayment dotted with small...

Tofino Boat Sinking - Two Dead April 30, 2017

Roger has pointed out the practical realities of simultaneously monitoring two channels with one radio. Charter boats here typically use cell phones or a dedicated VHF channel for boat to boat info exchange ... for fish Intel primarily. Diverting attention from their own financial interests is...

22' Cruiser in Chop, + etc.

Cosby, I believe you. Fresh water peaks quicker and with shorter periods. The Columbia River where I often run is all fresh, but with fetches rarely over 10 miles. YOU GOT IT WORSE.
