    Charging Dual Batteries

As Bob has pointed out - not advised unless both are the same type(start - deep cycle - FLA, etc). Both the same age(condition). Both the same size(AH capacity). In addition I would point out they must both be at the same state of charge. For example never charge your start battery(which will...

Several Cbrats have had dealings with Wefings Marine over the years. Just noticed that they have merged with Nautical Ventures North - last January. Not sure if Marc Grove is still there or not? Wish him well. Rob

    Help with antique evinrude

OMC received a bad batch of wiring harnesses in 1968. Check all wires for cracked insulation. Many problems caused by this. Another thing you can try is switching plugs to I77JC4 - gapped to 0.030" - these have been found to work better on older engines than the original ones. Good luck, Rob

    Camper tents on C-Dory

My Grandmother had one around this vintage but with the belt drive. My Mother used it - then my Sister - and I believe her Daughters now have it. The treadle gives you instant control for low speed precision and I have seen my Sister out sew an electric machine. She got going too fast one day...

    Camper tents on C-Dory

I Believe you need a more robust commercial type machine to punch through 2 layers of Sunbrella. Also a special thread designed for it that swells up when wet to seal the holes. You can always test your machine out on a few scrap pieces.

    Bulkhead removal

Above the adds - left of page there is a small slot that says "enhanced by google" search. Type in "Bulkhead removal" and several posts are shown. Many owners have done this with success. With care and time to finish edges for a professional look I don't think it harms the value - most consider...

You can give em wings but.....

A friend in my Power Squadron has one and they love it. Both cute and capable. The Yanmar or Volvo both reliable power - just keep fuel and filters clean. A group of them did a passage to Alaska few years back. Your 16 could run circles around him speed wise though. :P Anyway good to hear from...

    Storage batteries

Is your question - can you use deep cycle batteries for starting? The short answer - starting a small outboard with a large deep cycle bank in a warm climate will usually be ok. The problem arises with larger inboard motors and/or cold climates. They can draw the voltage of a deep cycle...

How do you feed oddball voltage back into a battery

ssobol answers most of your questions - controller, wiring size(and cost), and cost of appliances. Also availability - if your coffee maker bites the bullet on a cruise a 120v can be replaced most anywhere while 12v items are harder to source. Most inverters will have a low voltage cutoff or...

    Inflatable Preservers

Be aware of restrictions re. inflatables - Not for under 16 year old Not for under 80pds. Not for white water rafting Not for high impact sports - tubing/skiing Not for PWC Also they are only considered legal when being worn - do not count during a CG inspection if in storage. Check laws in...

Lifting 23' off trailer to paint.

As opposed to jacking or lifting there is a method where you back the boat up to a tree and tie it off. Then pull the trailer forward a few feet and add cribbing to stern. Continue pulling forward and add cribbing under keel. Drive off with trailer. To retreive trailer is disconnected from truck...

Adding 4 five gallon fuel tanks to the bow?

You could try 4 five gallon jugs of water(for a trial run) - then if the weight proved problematic you could heave to and just empty them. In addition to securing with ropes I would strap them down in such a way that they couldn't bounce. Also consider the cleats so not all the stress is...
