    looking at repowering the Madrona

Mike, I repowered our 22’ cruiser a couple of months ago. The thread is: http://www.c-brats.com/viewtopic.php?t= ... highlight= In short, we went local with Riverview marina in Lewiston, ID. Hope this helps, Ken

    Transiting BC, WA-AK

Dreaming of boating while sitting by the wood stove, watching the blizzard outside. We recently watched the Seattle Boat Show zoom presentation by “Cruising Sea Venture”. It was about winter cruising in SE AK. What intrigued me was they apparently pleasure boated through BC without landing and...

Effectiveness of handheld VHF when in dinghy or kayak

Thanks for that great explanation and graphic Bob. I believe another reason the PLB or EPIRB is the most reliable and robust system for real emergencies is because Rescue Coordination Centers are government funded and operated. I spent a few years providing aircraft crash survival training...

Effectiveness of handheld VHF when in dinghy or kayak

Prairie boy, The VHF, PLB and In-Reach are all good but different tools. You might consider all three at some point. Bob nailed it. The PLB is the best tool in a real life/death emergency. Other attributes of the PLB no other device offers is 5-7 year battery life and duel transmit on 406 MHz...

    New Repower

Also a good point Harvey. I spent many hours as air attack supervisor over some of the larger fires in CA and OR in a single engine aircraft this past summer, in some very complex airspace. This was with one of the most reliable turbine engines made, the Pratt and Whitney PT6. Even though it...

    New Repower

You make a good point. I have used the kicker a few times to get to a safer place to correct a problem. Once the thermostat stuck closed on the main causing it to overheat and few times I spun a prop. All of these can happen with a new motor.

    New Repower

I think I have the long shaft, but will give it a go when we get a chance to get it in the water.

    New Repower

So repower is complete🙂 With the reliability of a new Honda 90, I am wondering if I really need the 6hp Tohatsu kicker. We also carry the 2.5 hp Suzi for the dingy. Has anyone tried the small Suzi as a kicker for a 22’ Cdory in the event of a main engine failure? The 6hp Tohatsu will push...

    Dinghys

Tom, we have the Alaska series 240TDS that weighs about 33lbs. I load it from the front. To do this I first lift the front of the dingy by the rope to the bow rail. I then lift it so the bow rail can be used as a fulcrum to lever it to a point that I can grab the rope handles on the side of the...

    Dickinson cook top

Sure would be sweet if Dickinson made a small diesel heater/ range that would fit in a Cdory. I spent some time on an old WWII merchant vessel that was operated by the US Fish & Wildlife Service in AK that had one of the larger Dickinson cook ranges in it. It was amazing how well it heated...

    New Repower

Yes I did get a quote from Sportcraft. They were very competitive but by the time I travelled to Portland with the expense of food and lodging for a couple days it did not make sense. I also was not too excited about visiting Portland with the rioting and other nonsense going on. Riverview...

    New Repower

We are about to push the button on a new Honda 90 for our 22’ Cdory. The 99 Honda BF75 is still running well and has some trade in value. I have shopped the northwest and it appears the best deal all things considered is a local dealer close to home in Lewiston, ID. Because it is a...

Alaska Series tender with long-shaft outboard

Hey Dan. Yes we are still using the Suzi 2.5. It is a very good fit for the dingy. It is easy to manually put on and off the dingy from our cdory Due to its light weight. It is always easy to start and very quiet running. I highly recommend it. If you could work it out for us to cross the...

Is shutting down the economy worth it?

With a simple internet search one can find any statistics they want to support their predisposed views on the world. We can believe whatever we choose, but that does not make it true.

Is shutting down the economy worth it?

If the President’s main reason for wanting to reopen the economy is re-election, I’m good with that. It’s not like there is a viable alternative. I did not vote for him because I liked him, it was because I believed he would follow through with campaign promises which he did. Our economy has to...
