    DESSERT 1st, Northbound -> Erie Canal !

    The surprised never end. It's Thursday, and we arrived at Liberty Landing (NYC) at 1330! At 0715 this morning the offshore Wx looked pretty 'doable, and we were only ten miles south of Barnegat Inlet, so we decided to "go take a look." At 1130 we were rounding the point at Sandy Hook. 3hours...

    Dessert 1st, Northbound on the ICW

    Paul, It's ALL very doable(!), and you have a Great vessel (CD25: Seaweed). All you need to do is Really retire (tell the chancellor to cook for his own gatherings...) and get comfortable in your boat - then head-out! Did you guy's make that first all-important overnight on the boat yet? As...

    DESSERT 1st, Northbound -> Erie Canal !

    Bruce - I don't know if you've ever been to the antique wooden boat show in St. Michaels (MD), but with your interests in restoring wooden boats, you would be enthralled. Many FANTASTIC old vessels. J&J - yea, same for us. We love reading about the Beyers/Bentenson Expedition whenever there...

    DESSERT 1st, Northbound -> Erie Canal !

    Being able to change plans is one of the things that keeps Life interesting. As readers of this thread already know, we are northbound on the ICW (from Florida). What you don't know is that we've shifted gears and are now headed on farther north ... for the Erie Canal! The NEW plan is to...

    Fitting the Standard Garhauer Davit for lifting a dinghy

    Gauhauer has a good product. Depending on your application, they will also supply main poles of different lengths (we needed a longer pole to lift the kayak high enough to load atop the cabin). We also needed a somewhat longer arm on the circular support, to keep it vertical. Garhauer was...

    Dometic CoolFreeze (CF-50) Problems

    Freezer is working fine now (set at 11degrees). Problem seems to have dissappeared (but doing a complete Thaw seems to have helped too). Best, C&M At Langford Bay Marina (off the Chester River (MD)

    Dometic CoolFreeze (CF-50) Problems

    When we got underway yesterday morning the freezer was at 22degrees. By the end of the day it was showing 20degrees. Last night we had spectacular thunder/lightning with extremely heavy rain for an hour as a front moved through. We knew the bad wx was coming so we rigged a large golf umbrella...

    Dometic CoolFreeze (CF-50) Problems

    Well, we're making progress - sort of ... maybe , I think. Hmmm We emptied the freezer and defrosted it. When empty we reconnected to 110V and watched the temperature progress downward for a few hours. Initially it showed 53degrees, then 51 ... 31, then eventually 14degrees. Yeah! We then...

    Dometic CoolFreeze (CF-50) Problems

    Thanks Bob. If you find the tech's name and number, pls forward it. Looks like there might be a 'thermistor in our future. Best Casey&Mary

    Dometic CoolFreeze (CF-50) Problems

    It is in the cockpit, but mostly protected by the Bimini from direct sun. We usually keep two white PFD cushions on the top and the freezer sits on some Dri-Dek squares (for circulation).

    Dometic CoolFreeze (CF-50) Problems

    As some of you know, we are cruising in the Chesapeake Bay (near Easton, MD). Earlier this morning I noticed that the three year old Dometic freezer temp was 27degrees. It is usually at 16degrees in the morning, if the power supply is uninterrupted. I unplugged the freezer and replugged it...

    Dessert 1st, Northbound on the ICW

    All... I've been negligent in the posting department. Bill&El - Very sorry to hear of Bill's heart attack, but things 'sound to have stabilized. Good. Best Wishes for a continued and complete recovery! After spending a week in WashDC we came back down the Potomac, and up the St Marys River...

    Discovery and Hunkydory in South East Alaska 2015

    Great write-up to what is going to be a Fantastic Adventure! We look forward to ALL the stories and pictures. It's just after 7AM (EDT), so we're hoping the wx report is ok and you're preparing to get underway shortly. When you get to Haines, find a copy of "If You Lived Here, I'd Know Your...

    Luci Inflatable Solar Lantern

    Oh these are fun little lights! We have LED's on the boat as well, plus an LED Spotlight, anchorlight, a couple of smallish LED flashlights, and I wouldn't be without my LED headlamps! "Let there be Light!" :-) But one of the advantages I've already found with the Lumi's is that you can take...

    New regulations for Biscayne National Park (FL)

    http://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/c ... 37869.html Biscayne National Park (BISC) will be implementing some new regulations (and enforcement challenges) soon. BISC is situated about fifteen miles south of the Maimi metropolitan area, and is a favorite of thousands of boater's who enjoy the...

    Solar panel(s) atop Bimini??

    Good Morning Brats, I'm thinking of solar panels (future project ... not now) and wanted to get some opinions. We carry a kayak on top of the cabin, so it's pretty busy up there, and very little room for solar panels (they'd be mostly covered by the kayak). We also find that we usually...

    Has anyone cruised the inside passage?

    Mike, It sounds like you have your plans well in hand. ...a couple of things to consider: A Class I PFD does have more bouancy, but they also take up more storage space. You might want to consider a couple of the suspender-type PFD's. They are USCG approved, and wear or store easily. Given...

    Has anyone cruised the inside passage?

    Mike and Maggie, As several 'Brats have already mentioned, cruising to Southeast Alaska (SEAK) has been a pasttime for many folks, for many years. It is a WONDERFUL boating Adventure. When you do it you will likely be nearly the smallest cruiser you'll meet (other than fellow C-Brats!) A few...

    No Condensation,

    We also use HyperVent below the V-berth cushions, together with a length of unicellular foam (backpacker sleeping pad from Walmart, $8) along each side and that seems to help a lot. Ventilating the closed space seems to be very useful, but when you're trying keep warm that is problematic. We...
