Article: "What's It Like to Live Aboard a 400 sq.ft. Sa

lived on a 30' freedom sailboat for 10 years in seattle. A wonderful life. Go home to the boat some evenings and untie and go for a sail. Come friday afternoon stop at Larrys' market for some provisions and head out to someplace else for the weekend. One thing I did learn that caused me to...

How to Heat a 22 Angler?

Tried the one burner kerosene wallas and wasn't impressed. Kind of noisy and not that much heat. I know Scan Marine won't like this comment. But have had two Wallas 1300's and loved them both. One was on a 22 cruiser and was great. Now I have one on my Arima Sea Explorer and it is great as...

    Trailer light problem

No, the rv female plug shows power to the pin 4 taillights. Just about has to be something with that actual pin. Going to take the fixture apart and look at it. It looks okay from the outside.

    Trailer light problem

Thanks for the reply. Mine is as you describe except left and right turn signals are reversed. Still don't understand how pin 4 on the rv can be energized but still no taillights but same situation while hooked to the truck and they don't light. Maybe something wrong with the interconnect...

    Trailer light problem

Have question for those really familiar with trailer light wiring. I have a 7 pin plug on truck. Tested pins and starting from bottom and going clockwise pin 1 is blank, pin 2 is left turn, pin 3 is blank, pin 4 is head and tail lights, pins 5 and 6 are blank. When I turn on the truck pin 4 is...

San Jaun and Puget Sound October cruising questions?

You get good and bad in october. But neither last more than a few days. Just go and hideout at the many parks and ports if you hit a spot of bad weather. There will be a lot of great days during october. As far as swinomish channel versus deception pass. Take the pass. You can be past it in...

    kicker on 16' cruiser

Don't bother changing the prop. The motor is too small for anything other than trolling in calm water. You won't be able to control it in a breeze or fight current. You need a twin cylinder of 8 hp or a little more to be effective.

PNW 2022, Columbia River and San Juan Islands

Many years ago I and a friend took my 13' whaler down the willamette from salem to the columbia. got to go through the lock when it was operational. While in the lock a couple drunk couples were also enjoying the drop down in the lock. But failed to release the lines securing them to the...

    Best kicker for 16' cruiser?

some folks can tolerate the vibration and shaking of a single cylinder, some can't. I would look for a 8 hp yamaha (hard to find) or a 8 hp honda ,

    Logistics of Truck Camper/Boat Combo

Worried about problems that probably won't surface. I towed a 22 with a 3/4 ton ram diesel and carried a 4000 pound northern lite. Had a 42" stinger with the super hitch and never had a problem over 12 years. Try it and the first time you will see you have nothing to worry about.

What's Seattle really like these days?

I am certainly with Tom on this one. I lived on my boat in Elliott Bay Marina in the 90's and it was great. Go downtown any time of day and find something to see or do. But those days are gone. I used to work in portland and it has gone the same route. Really poor management has driven the...

    Powered cooler

I have an engle and couldn't be happier with it. Carried it on the c dory and a couple sailboats and now on an arima and it has been flawless. Amazing how little power they require.

    I need an insurance company

I currently have a boat insured through USAA/Progressive. Probably won't do it again. They would only use NADA to value the boat and motor. So it is currently insured for about half its' true value.

    Defender

Don't know how many of you do on-line purchasing from Defender but I do occasionally. They were recently hacked and my credit card number was compromised as well as thousands of others. USAA has a good security protocol and they caught it immediately but still a pain. Makes you rethink on-line...

    What not to do

Saw about a 30' boston whaler on a triple axle trailer start to back down the ramp last summer at newport, chain and winch unhooked. Had to stay and watch, expected a real disaster, but nope, they survived. Port of newport has a pretty steep ramp. I tend to leave strap and chain hooked as I...
