takes a licking and keeps on cruising

Fifty years ago the Navy had me learning COLREGS off by heart. We also learned, "Right of way is what a vessel gives you. If they don't give it you don't have it. In that case do something about it." In those days we studied RAC - radar assisted collision. These days I suspect autopilot is...

    Seeking feedback on price

If the hull is in good shape the next big question is the age of the outboards.

    Making a move

My thanks to all! The new Ranger tug is in the boathouse. WOW does it have a lot of systems! I'm really enjoying it so far. I really appreciate the comments. When I took my first trip in the R25 someone said, "you will have to lose that hat". The cap is my C-Dory one and I replied, "No way...

    Making a move

So here's a story. Back in January 2009 I saw a 21 Ranger Tug for sale at Westport marina here on Vancouver Island. I asked here on this site and on TugNuts for some input on this tug and got some some really great comments. In the end I decided that the R21 was not quite what we wanted, the...

    Twin 40s battery question

You are absolutely correct Thataway. Instead of 'each battery' I should have said 'both batteries'. Your quote para. 2 "How does an ACR work?" says it even better.

    Twin 40s battery question

No, you shouldn't have any concern. You have a great setup. To answer your other point, one certainly shouldn't mix types, for example AGM with lead/acid. Your setup with a starting/deep cycle is fine. Mine with one 27 and one 29 is also fine. Going deep cycle for both just gave me a little...

    Twin 40s battery question

Maybe Yamaha is different to Honda. I have never owned a Honda outboard so I really don't know. When we took delivery of our 2008 Venture 23 with twin 60 hp Yamahas I was surprised to find only one battery switch. In addition, the boat was equipped with one starting battery and one deep cycle...

To what does this tube connect in my lower unit and why is

That's absolutely correct but let me add a couple of comments. A couple of years ago Boating Magazine did a comparison test of the pitot measurement on a leg vs a paddle wheel. The pitot won hands down for accuracy. In my working life we looked at an air pitot (think commercial aircraft) vs...

    Venture 23 vs Cruiser 22

This thread was bound to get legs. 😉 We also have a 2008 23 Venture. It was built by Fluid Marine as, I suspect, so was yours. These people build some nice boats and I think they may have built the best of the 23s. I don't think they made any money doing it so they got out of the business...
