    Swim ladder

If the ladder is in the up position, is it easy for a person in the water to lower it to the down position? Assuming there is no one onboard to do it for you. Martin.

    Winterization questions

Guess I forgot to mention. There was no shore power to my boat. So the batteries could be compromised in extreme weather. Martin.

    Winterization questions

Has anyone mentioned the batteries? If they are outside, like on my 22, I would disconnect and take them home. If the batteries freeze, be prepared to buy new ones come Spring. Martin.

    Chuck Yeager

I prefer to read about C-Dory's and boating in general on this site. There are other forums where one can express great achievements and politics. Martin.

    Anchor choice

I was anchored in a bay where a lot of other boats were anchored. I did not know what the bottom consisted of. When I pulled the anchor up it was covered in mud. Bummed me off a tad as I had no wash down arrangement ready. The anchor is a Manson Supreme. I have been useing them for years...

    Anchor choice

You are correct Bob. There are a lot of Bruce anchors in the PNW. Also a lot of boats I have seen in the marinas with a Bruce that never leave the marina, or do short hops with no anchoring involved. With over 30 years in the same marina, I know a lot of guys (and gals) who use their boats...

    Anchor choice

Rocna or Manson Supreme is my 5 cents worth. Manson is cheaper. I have never had or needed self-launching but the Rocna would be best IMO. As for chain (high test) I agree with Harvey, 50ft minimum. Martin.

launching and retrieving larger than 22 cruiser

If I was on my own boating most of the time and approaching 70, I would consider a 19. Martin.

    Cutting Board

Check out the cutting board pics on "Nomad Mods". This one goes over the Wallas stove top, but it would work in any application where you want a cutting board. Martin.

    Short Perko Anchor Light

My dink on top of the cabin did not have a rounded stern. The two tubes extended past the wooden bracket for the outboard. The tubes also passed either side of the masthead/anchor light. This allowed me to put the dink on the roof with the stern facing the stern of the mother boat. I also had...

    Anyone seen Nomad?

Thank you Terry. I'm pleased they love the boat. Do let me know if the name is still the same. C-Dory is still my favourite boat I have ever owned. Martin.

    Anyone seen Nomad?

Hi Thomas, Good to hear from you. We are doing well, big changes in our life. We moved from Vancouver Island to Kamloops in the BC interior. Now enjoy boating on the Shuswap lake which has 1500 Kms of shoreline, so that will keep us busy for a few years. The Camano Troll is for sale...

    Anyone seen Nomad?

We sold Nomad summer of 2017 to a young couple living down south on Vancouver Island, Victoria area I think. So they probably cruise the Gulf Islands and San Juans (when the border was open). If they kept the same boat name, has anyone seen her? Harvey is our roving ambasssador in these areas...

    locked out of our C-Dory

I kept a spare key in a water proof container wedged out of sight between the battery and the bulkhead in the rear cockpit lazerette. Let your "emergency contact" know where it is in case of emergency and you are out of town. Martin.

Thinking of Going to All Chain

If I anchor real shallow and only have chain out, I use the right size chain hook. Attach the anchor hook to 4 or 5ft of rode, hook on to the chain and fasten the rode to the bow cleat. Let out a tad more chain to take the strain off the windlass and you are done. Some boaters use 2 chain...

Thinking of Going to All Chain

Not sure what you mean by "re-splicing all the time"? Do you change your rode frequently? Martin.

Thinking of Going to All Chain

Just my 2 cents worth, and what do I know? Not a lot says the Admiral. Recommended length of chain is one and a half times the length of the boat. So 40 to 50 ft is plenty long enough for a light boat such as a C-Dory. Assuming that a rode is going to be spliced on to the chain (and spliced...

    Poor man's bimini

Love it. For years on my 22 C-Dory I used a patio umbrella, small home made stand for the base, and bungy cords. Got lots of complimentary remarks at the FH gatherings. I did end up going with a Taylor Made Sunshade, it gave a bit more coverage. I have never been a fan of cockpit enclosures...

Anchor for a 25 ft cdory

Rule of thumb regarding anchoring. Take a look at your ground tackle and identify it's weak spot. What ever that is, be it anchor, chain, shackle, or swivel, and remove it. I know this info is 101 to you old salts, but it is hoped it will help new boaters or those with little anchoring...
