It may not be economical if you have to buy the lead. In my case I have over 100 lbs of lead shot which is now illegal to use. A 12 lb downrigger ball costs me $45 to buy. So if I recycle my useless lead shot I think it makes sense for any one who has access to almost free lead to pour their own...
